video.
Performers/Characters The central protagonist is a unique grown man, with an
extraordinary facial deformity; he is heavily isolated –
but despite him looking different, he is completely
normal. There is a love interest, which fits the
stereotype of pretty woman, she struggles to survive in
the patriarchal office and only accepts the hero when
he saves her from the antagonist. Who is a normal
looking man, who also has interest in the woman and
with the help of his two henchmen tries to destroy the
protagonist through bullying. There is also the main
character’s dog, which represents natural happiness.
Genre Type: The text is a continuous linear narrative; using jump
Performance, Narrative cuts and ellipsis. It essentially a very predictable
or Conceptual? simulacrum narrative. It does have the concept of the
need for acceptance; this is all the protagonist wants.
Iconography
Setting- There is five settings, which each give a new angle to
the office. The office, is the catalyst to the protagonist’s
struggle, in this he is singled out and isolated from
humanity. At home, we see he’s a very lovely normal
talented young man. On the field there is a lot of shots
of natural beauty (elk, dog running, sun, trees); this
suggests the idea of everything being beautiful. The car
park is perepetia of the narrative, where through the
protagonists physical actions, he puts an end to the
antagonist’s sickening attitudes and wins the heart of
the girl; he has feeling for. There is then the sequence
of him walking her home, it’s here she discovers what a
normal good person he is.
Technical and audio There is a lot of use of long/mid shots in the office, to
codes – camera use, contrast and isolate the protagonist to others.
editing, lighting, The editing is parallel to the music, in terms of tempo;
diegetic/non diegetic as the music gets faster, the action incenses.
sound, sfx There is only segment of diegetic sound, that is the
dialogue and ambient sound in the first few seconds,
when the love interest screams when she sees the
protagonist; and he knows why she scream but through
his struggling voice, he states “huh, you scared me to”
from this moment, it is clear he doesn’t fit in, yet it is all
he wants.

convention?
What ideologies are encoded in the music video?
There is a hidden message suggested of we are all the same, we are all just as
beautiful inside, don’t judge a book by its cover.
