2. When we were first given our task brief we
had to see what films our target audience of
16-24 year olds watched and what entices
them to watch them and then we pitched our
film trailer idea to them and received
feedback, we didn’t think that doing a
traditional survey was the best way so using
an ipad we went round vox popping fellow
peers we then took it back and on the mac we
edited it all together using iMovie this is a
simple editing software that has a lot of pre
effects loaded on so you can just upload your
footage and it will edit it all together for you.
This software is very good for beginners who
want to make fairly decent looking videos. I
first used iMovie last year to create a video
3. When it came to creating a soundtrack to
coincide with our teaser trailer we had two pieces
of audio software we could use to create the
audio. these were Garageband and Soundtrack.
Garageband I would say is more complicated to
use than soundtrack because in soundtrack you
have pre loaded samples on there that you can
use whereas in garage band there are samples,
there aren’t as many and they are not as good
because it is a lot easier to record your own
tracks. I did like using soundtrack because I don’t
really have that good of a musical knowledge so
this was perfect as you had the samples ready
then you could easily adjust the pitch, volume, or
even what key or chord progression its in.
4. When it came down to actually shooting our teaser trailer we
used the Canon 550D Digital SLR camera as you are able to
shoot in full 1080p HD plus you also had the use of a zoom
lens which is better in clarity when you zoom in than if you used
an optical zoom on a compact camera. The camera also had an
auto focus switch on it so then we always knew that our shots
were in focus when filming, this was always a big help when we
wanted to experiment with more difficult shots. We used stop
motion as part of our trailer too at the beginning as our ident,
this was very difficult to shoot by one of our group members as
he had to write a word then take a picture then write another
and then repeat the process every time.
Once we had all our footage we then had to edit our footage
together which was difficult at first but then once we had got the
hang of it, we were fine we didn’t have any hiccups or anything
that threatened our work. The good thing about final cut is that
it is a very simple piece of software to use once you are used to
it, however the software it self is industry standard so
professional film makers use this software too.
5. We also had to use adobe Photoshop and illustrator to make our film
poster and magazine cover. These are far more superior pieces of
software to use instead of using MS Word or MS Publisher as the
adobe software is designed for making these pieces of media. For
our poster we had an image of our protagonist then we cut his body
outline out so then we were left with a silhouette. Then by taking
screenshots from our trailer we used these images and placed them
within the body so then the audience can see snapshots of what to
expect, we used a text font called 28 days later and made sure this
coincides with all of our media pieces. Next in illustrator we had to
create our magazine cover which was my job to create so i started
with the background and decided to have a spotlight styled
background with it black and then getting lighter as it moves to the
centre. Next we had to decide upon what magazine we would
actually publish our film on, our film is a crime/thriller trailer so
through some more research on the internet we discovered that most
other films of these genres we published on empire including our 2
inspirational films; Taken and Taken 2 and James Bond, i then added
an image of our antagonist to the front looking sly and arrogant as he
is meant to be a gang leader who is respected and powerful, with this
down on side of the cover we had the article heading "The history of
villainy" and "Ryan Travers: The next biggest villian in cinema"
6. Throughout the construction of this task we
had to do a lot of writing, researching,
planning and teamwork all of this creates a lot
of ideas and so instead of writing them down
on pieces of paper and maybe losing them.
Over the last few years online blogging sites
have become very popular, so for us
whenever we had an idea we would log on to
our mahara blog account and create a new
journal as they are now known, this has been
key in the safety and quality if our work
because we haven’t been able to lose any
ideas so everything we came up with we had
and we didn’t have to think of new ideas.
7. Finally when presenting these evaluation
questions due to the internet and
programs that you can access from it now
means that instead of having to just write it
in essay format on paper then hand it in
we are now able to use cool presentation
programs on the net. E.G. Prezi, Popplet,
Timeline or Animoto. This firstly makes
your work look very presentable plus it
also breaks up the big blocks of text
that usually occur and puts them into
sizeable chunk that we can manage to
read without getting bored.
