2. It was founded by Walt Disney in 1923 and quickly
rose to become one of the most successful brands of all
time. Disney is also the parent company of many film
and animation studios, some of the most popular ones
include; Live Action, Pixar, Disney Feature Animation
and most recently Lucas Film which was bought in
2012 for a reported sum of around $4 billion; making it
Disney’s largest ever investment in a company.

October 16th, 1923 by Walt Disney and his
brother Roy O. Disney.
Disney is probably most well-known for the
films that it produces such as The Lion King,
Frozen, Cinderella, Snow White and the Seven
Dwarfs and of course now Star Wars: The Force
Awakens.

7. Walt Disney opened Disneyworld on July 17, 1955; a
unique destination built for entertainment and for all
ages.
Sixty years later, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts has
grown into one of the world’s leading theme parks and
leisure providers, with the likes of Disneyland Paris
becoming just as big as Disneyworld Florida.
8. Over the years Walt Disney has diversified into
many areas; one of them being the cruise
industry.
Walt Disney also includes the Disney Cruise
Line with its four ships - the Disney Magic,
Disney Wonder, Disney Dream and Disney
Fantasy.
9. Disney is now involved in many sectors of leisure and
entertainment such as; theme parks, cruises, the film
industry and leisurely holidays such as Disney
Vacation Club, with 13 properties and more than
200,000 member families and Adventures by Disney,
which provides guided family holiday experiences to
destinations around the world.
10. Walt Disney Pictures brings high quality
movies, stage plays and music to people all
around the world.
Some successful films produced by Walt
Disney Pictures include; Toy Story, The Lion
King, Frozen, Tangled and Inside out.
11. The Walt Disney Company is the third largest
global media conglomerate. In 2000; its
revenues topped $25 billion, with 27% derived
from parks and resorts.

12. Walt Disney may be one of the most
dominant conglomerates in the
entertainment industry, but that doesn’t
mean it is without competition. Only 20%
of the film industries $30 billion net worth
is actually owned by Disney, with the other
80% being owned by the likes of Sony,
Warner Bros and Universal which no doubt
comes as a great hindrance for Disney’s
profits.
Furthermore, Disney it not actually making
the most profit out of the leading
entertainment industry’s as people may
think. Walt Disney managed an annual
turnover of $48.1 billion in 2014, whereas a
year later in 2015, rival company Comcast
was able to achieve an annual turnover of
$68.7 billion, blowing Disney’s profits out
of the water.
