4. Is it legal?
According to untribune.com there at least 51
countries which fully prohibit corporal
punishment in all settings as of 2016.
In the Philippines there is still no law
prohibiting it in all settings. There was
pending bill last year which is the ANTI-
CORPORAL PUNISHMENT ACT OF 2017

6. Who can apply corporal
punishment?
Certainly not the teachers!
Article 233 of the family code states:
The person exercising substitute parental authority
shall have the same authority over the person of the
child as the parents. In no case shall the school
administrator, teacher of individual engaged in child
care exercising special parental authority inflict
corporal punishment upon the child.

Article 220, paragraph 7 of the family code states:
The parents and those exercising parental
authority shall have with the respect to their
unemancipated children on wards the following
rights and duties:

required under the circumstances
8. Nevertheless, any person, including parents,
should not abuse a child in anyway as stated
in RA 7610 prohibited or the Anti Child Abuse
Law.
This also prohibits physical and psychological
abuse.
9. • Let’s sum it up.
• As of now, there is no law prohibiting the
parents for applying corporal punishments.
• There is a law prohibiting physical or
psychological abuse.
• So the hanging question is, is corporal
punishment an abuse?
• Remember not to hit the child because you
want to or because you are angry.
10. Different views on corporal
punichment
It is violence inflicted on children by parents,
teachers, carers and others in the name of
“discipline” – is the most common form of
violence against children. It violates children’s
right to respect for their human dignity and
physical integrity, as well as their rights to health,
development and education, and is associated
with a wide range of negative health,
developmental and behavioural outcomes for
children that can follow them into adulthood. Its
legality violates children’s right to equal protection

punishment — including spanking, hitting and
other means of causing pain — can lead to
increased aggression, antisocial behavior,
physical injury and mental health problems for

however, some quality research indicating
short and long term efficacy of disciplinary

12. What the bible says?
If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son,
which will not obey the voice of his father, or the
voice of his mother, and that, when they have
chastened him, will not hearken unto them:
Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on
him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city,
and unto the gate of his place;
And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This
our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not
obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard.
