UsingSkyDrive islike havingyourownpersonal cloudtostore all you photos,documents,videos,orany
othertype of file. SkyDrive letsyouaccess andshare your filesanywhere andatanytime using your
smart phone,tablet,personalcomputer(PC),orMac computer. Unlike othersimilarproducts,SkyDrive
isnot limitedtoasingle PCor device. SkyDrivealsogivesyouaccesstofree MicrosoftOffice
applications,suchasWord,Excel,PowerPoint,andOneNote.
Nowthat youhave a basicunderstandingof SkyDrive’scapabilities,let’sgetstarted.Once yourdevice is
turnedon, connectto the internet. Aslongasyouhave an active Microsoftemail account(suchas
Hotmail,Outlook,MSN,orlive.com),youcaneitherdownloadthe SkyDrive desktopapplicationtoyour
PC or use the online site tomanage andshare your files. Now,navigate towindows.microsoft.com/en-
US/skydrive/download.
2. Select“Getyour SkyDrive”.
At youremail account“Signin” screen,signinto youremail account.
Next,youwill see the “Microsoftaccount”page.Rightclickon the hyperlinkstoreview boththe
Microsoftservicesagreementandthe privacyandcookiesstatements. If youacceptthe terms,select
the “I accept” button.Otherwise choose “Cancel”.
3. You have nowreached SkyDrive’s active onlinehome page.If youwishtodownloadSkyDrivetoyourPC,
selectthe “Download”button.Selecting“Close”will close the downloadoption.
Nowlet’stake a closerlookat the differentoptions onthe SkyDrive onlinepage.Selectingthe down
arrow nexttothe “SkyDrive”cloudgivesyoudirectaccesstoyouremail account,your “People”or
contact list,or a personal calendar. Choosingthe “SkyDrive”optionreturns youtothe SkyDrive home
page.
4. At the home page,youcan select“Create”foraccess the the variousMicrosoftOffice applications.You
will use “Upload”to selectanduploadall yourfilesintoyourpersonal SkyDrive cloud. More onthat
optionina moment.
The “Talk” bubble opensthe “Messaging”window allowingyoutoinstantly chatwithyour“Facebook
friends”or“Google contacts”.
5. You woulduse the “Tools”iconto access “Options”,“Help”screens,and tooffer“Feedback”.
“Options”allow youto“Manage your storage”,“Upgrade”, selectdifferent“Office file formats”,and
“People tagging”.
You can alsouse the “Sort byName”optionto change the orderof your files.The iconstothe right
change the appearance of your files.
6. Now,let’s “Upload”our“Pictures”and share themwithfriendsandfamily.Remember,we are only
uploading“Pictures”toshare.Youwoulduse the same stepstouploadand share documentsorany
otherfile types.
First,selectthe “Pictures”file.Note thatyounow have “Sharing”and “Folderactions”. The “Folder
actions”controlsyour folders, allowingyoutodownload,embed,delete,andmove anyfolderonyour
hard drive.
Next,select“Upload”.
7. Thisopens the “File Upload”window.Now, navigate toyour“Pictures”files.
Selectthe photosyouwishtouploadto yourSkyDrive cloud. If youwantto selectmore thanone photo,
holddownthe control (Ctrl) key (CommandkeyonMac computers) andselectyourlistof photos.
Whenyouare finished,select “Open”.
8. A box appearsshowingwhenall the photosare uploadedtoyourSkyDrive cloud.
All yourselectedphotoswill nowappearinyourSkyDrive cloud underthe “Pictures”option.
Select“Sharing”anda warningmessage will appearverifyingyouwanttoshare the folder.
Selecting“Don’tshare thisfolder”returnsyoutothe “Pictures”files.If youwishtocontinue andshare
the photos,select“Share thisfolder”.
9. You can nowshare youphotosby sendingalinkthroughemail orbypostingthemto facebook,twitter,
or LinkedIn.
Whenchoosingthe email option,key ineachemail recipient’sname intothe “To”box.A drop-downbox
appearsallowingyoutoquicklyaddthe email addresses.Chooseasmanyemail addressesasyouwish;
there isno limit.
10. You can alsoadd a personal message anddecide whetheryouwanttogive the recipientsthe rightsto
edityourphotosor if you wantthemto signin before theycanaccessthem.
To post the photosto Facebook, Twitter,orLinkedIn,youwill needtoadd or signintothe specific
services.
11. Choosing“Geta link”,givesyou the optionsto“View only”, “View andedit”,oraddto your “Public”files
so anyone can view them.
Once you choose youroption,select “Share”.Select“Close”toexitthe application.
Once your photosare shared,a confirmationpage will appear,whichallowsyouto “Remove
permissions”if editingoptionswere added.Select “Close”toexitthe confirmationpage.
12. The “Sharing” informationnowappearsinaseparate pane.
Nowthe recipients justneedtofollowthe supplied linktoview yourphotos.
Remember,withthe SkyDrive cloudapplication,youcanquicklyandeasilyshare yourphotosandfiles
