A group of words that
expresses a complete thought
or ideas
It has two parts:Subject and
Predicate
 Composed of at least one
Independent Clause

3. What are the two types of
clauses?

has its own subject and verb
expresses a complete thought
can stand alone
🞇Dependent Clause
cannot stand alone

4. Simple Sentences
🞇 Simple sentences are composed of
one independent clause
Examples:
• Iam proud to be a Filipino.
• Charice and Manny Pacquaio are
individualswe can be proud of.
• Osang, a Filipino domestic helper, won

🞇Compound sentences are composed
of two or more independent clauses.
🞇The clausesare joined by coordinating
conjunctions.

Examples:

7. Complex Sentences
🞇Complex sentences are composed of
one independent clauses and two or
more dependent clauses.
🞇The clauses are joined by
subordinating conjunctions.
because, that, when, who, where,
therefore, although, even though,
since, whose, as, after, if, until, unless,
while, though, before.

Examples:
