1. The Working Draft-
Homework to be Completed before class on
Monday, September 9th
Over the weekend, begin your initial research. The end result should be an
outline of your essay.
To Start:
1) List potential topics.
2) For each topic find a few sources, up to three. You do not have to
fully read each source but peruse them enough to get a sense of its
message. Make a note of the source with a quick blurb about it.
These do not have to be academic sources. If you don’t find sources
for a topic, note that.
3) For each topic, identify “stakeholders.” Chapter 6c-2 discusses this.
Ask of the topic, “who is this a problem for?”
4) For each topic, define where you fit in- identify your ethos. This will
potentially be “cut and paste” from your zero draft personal
exploration. Chapter 6c-3 discusses this and gives a list of questions
to help situate yourself.
5) For each topic, try to write a few sentences explaining the context or
presence of the potential problem. Chapter 6c-4 explains how you
might go about doing this with a series of questions.
