Mr. Gerber is a professional Architect in Ontario. He completed his
Master of Architecture and Master of Business Administration
through Lawrence Technological University – in a pursuit of design
excellence that balances social, economic and environmental
issues in the global market. Having employment experience in both
large and small organizations has fostered a critical design
sensibility of the full project cycle spectrum from multiple
perspectives and stakeholder relationships. During this tenure he
continues to be exposed to a diverse range of project sizes and
classifications that has broadened an awareness of techniques and
construction assemblies including: Transit, Educational,
Institutional, Corporate, Residential, Industrial, and Urban Designs.
Dynamically working with the direction of leading partners, project
architects, senior technologists, professional engineers, and
contract administrators has cultivated a cross-disciplinary
experience and pertaining skill set. Over the course of almost ten
years, emphasis on professional and punctual communication
between all project stakeholders has honed his ability to be an
effective team member who appreciates and harnesses the potential
of collaboration.
TRANSIT ARCHITECTURE
Scarborough Subway Extension, Toronto, Ontario. Project Architect involved with
Terminal Sheppard East Station and Scarborough Centre Station. The proposed
Scarborough Subway Extension will replace the Scarborough RT and contribute to an
integrated and comprehensive transit network in the city. The project involved
complex programming and collaborative phasing to minimize impact to operations of
various transit connections and services. Assisted in leading multidisciplinary design
studies and reports of station layout and sizing, modeling, adjacent properties access
and parking, and drafting studies linking existing and proposed infrastructure.
Participated in design development and cumulative stakeholder presentations of
progress reviews. [Fall 2015 – present /AECOM]
Vaughan Metropolitan Centre VIVA BRT Station, Vaughan, Ontario. Project
Architect and coordination lead for the VMC station along a Bus Rapid Transit
System. The open air bus shelter is a component of the larger transit interchange
with direct access to the TYSSE subway terminal station. Responsible for managing
Revit in the design and coordination between the QSD consortium consultants and
the contractor in a design-build contract. Assisted in managing multidisciplinary
coordination efforts with detail design and solutions for integration of the bus terminal
and underground concourse with the TYSSE subway station below. Prepared
information for Municipal permit approvals and design review presentations.
[Summer 2014 - present]
Eglinton Crosstown LRT bid proposal, Canada: Light Rail Transit Network
Expansion connecting a 19-kilometre corridor between Mt. Dennis (Weston Road)
and Kennedy Station. Delivered using the Alternative Financing and Procurement
(AFP) model, the proposal included a 10-kilometre underground section and a total 15
Stations and 10 stops. As part of bidding consortium, design lead for AECOM under
Project Architect, responsible for Mt. Dennis Station complex integrating Terminal
Station and LRT Maintenance and Storage Facility, Don Mills and Bayview In-line
Stations, and Kennedy Interchange Station. Intern responsibilities included: iterative
management of PSOS compliance, station sizing and programming analysis,
preparation of client (construction joint venture) and stakeholder (Infrastructure
Ontario, Metrolinx, TTC) presentations, coordination with international partners, and
management of detailing through design development. [Winter 2014 – Fall 2015
/AECOM]
Commercial-Broadway Station, Vancouver British Columbia: Multi-modal transit
interchange hub connecting the Expo Lines and Millennium lines with bus networks.
The project involved integrating an additional platform to the elevated Expo line and
connecting bridge across Broadway, expanding existing bridge across Grandview
Cut, and rebranding entire station; currently comprised of disparate station elements
and wayfinding vocabularies. Design lead under Project Architect, broad range of
responsibilities included: station sizing analysis, iterative development of 2- and 3-
dimensional schematic design alternatives, preparation of client and city
presentations, product and materials design research, and assembly detailing through
design development. [Spring 2013 - present /AECOM]
Sheppard West Station, Toronto Ontario: Multi-modal transit station linking
subway, GO Trains, and bus routes above and below ground. The project involved
collaborative design work with UK firm AEDAS to deliver world-class transit design
with seamless operations of various transit connections and services. Member of
multidisciplinary design team conducting various contract administration services
during the construction phase. [Winter 2011 - present/AECOM]
Kennedy Station, Toronto Ontario: Four level multi-modal transit station linking
subway, light rail, rapid transit, bus routes, and heavy rail. The project involved
complex programming and collaborative phasing to minimize impact to operations of
various transit connections and services. Member of multidisciplinary design team
conducting various studies of station layout and sizing, modeling, scheduling,
adjacent properties access and parking, and drafting studies linking existing and
proposed infrastructure. Participated in design and development of construction
documents and detailing of station and cumulative graphic presentation materials for
formal progress reviews. [Spring 2011 – Spring 2014/AECOM]
407 Station, Toronto Ontario: Multi-modal transit station linking subway and bus
routes above and below ground. The project involved collaborative design work with

TTC Greenwood Carhouse – Safety Boards, Toronto Ontario: Design lead under
project architect; responsible for design development, contract document preparation,
and contract administration for fall prevention enclosure at Track 32 of TTC subway
maintenance facility. [Fall 2014 - present /AECOM]
Chaplin Station, Toronto, Ontario: In-line Light Rail Transit Station. Participation in
the development of preliminary design concepts, station massing, and spatial
relationships satisfying the client and stakeholder’s programmatic station
requirements. Schematic design process included the development of project-wide
design concept and the refinement of site-specific contextual responses; location and
massing of three station entrances (Naturalized Park, Urban Station, Urban Parkette)
and underground interior station architecture. Intern role included the analysis and
selection of building and engineering systems, specifically related to the tunnel
ventilation system (TVS) and the unique coordination and design of the station
ventilation through sculpted architectural elements. Review and integration of various
sources of programming literature and stakeholder criteria. [Spring 2012 – Winter
2012/AECOM]
Oakwood Station, Toronto Ontario: In-line Light Rail Transit Station. Proposed
along the Eglinton Crosstown (ECLRT) project, a 19-kilometre light rail transit line
(LRT) that will run along Eglinton Avenue. The ECLRT will connect west (Jane
Street/Black Creek Drive) to east (Kennedy Station). Participated in value engineering
exercises during schematic design phase. Attended public open houses on behalf of
transit client to interact with neighbourhood groups and present design progress.
Lead designer under project architect in the development of preliminary design
concepts, station massing, and spatial relationships satisfying the client and
stakeholder’s programmatic station requirements. [Fall 2011 – Spring 2013/AECOM]
Bronte Station, Oakville, Ontario. Transit Masterplan. Working under lead architect
in the study and generation of functional masterplan integrating existing transit
program into an amalgamated vision for the future enhancement of the station
facilities. Design development incorporated public workshops output and Metrolinx
design criteria and sought to improve both pedestrian and vehicle access to the
station which connects a heavy rail system to the downtown area of Toronto.
Incorporating localized restrictions associated with existing major utilities, existing
heavy rail thoroughfare, and existing structures; evaluated needs and opportunities of
pedestrians, transit users, accessibility and private vehicle circulation were
systematically integrated. [Spring 2012 – Fall 2014 /AECOM]
Lawrence Station – Easier Access, Toronto, Ontario: Review of station egress
capacity and evacuation time associated with both existing conditions and proposed
design alternatives. Project emphasis was to incorporate accessible transit ridership
with both Subway and Bus connections at Lawrence Station. Utilizing both Ontario
Building Code (OBC) codes and local transit authority design guidelines, calculations
of egress included a number of variables including number, size, location, and
capacity of existing and proposed vertical circulation elements (VCEs) within the
existing station layout. [Winter 2012 - present /AECOM]
Union Pearson Express Airport Station at Terminal 1, Toronto, Ontario: Pearson
International Airport infrastructure and station addition. Member of multidisciplinary
AirLinx design team developing design and construction documents for large airport
addition project. Participated in the original P3 proposal phase designing station in
tandem with program compliance and stakeholder presentations. Post-award
involvement included: design development and detail synchronization, building
programming, co-ordination among multiple disciplines and consultants, drafting, and
participated in construction phase contract administration services. [Spring 2010 –

Ottawa LRT bid proposal, Canada: Light Rail Transit Expansion. Working within the
bidding consortium Intern role was to assist with the development of concept station
designs for both underground and above ground stations and integration into the
existing context. Participated in the graphic and technical design and development of
multiple station proposals. [Spring 2011 – Winter 2012/AECOM]
MILITARY ARCHITECTURE
Canadian Forces College CFRB – Roof Replacement, Hamilton, Ontario: Intern
Architect directed two-phase project. Phase One report involved documenting existing
conditions, proposing recommendations and completed class D cost estimate for
approval by Defence Construction Canada (DCC). Phase Two involved preparation of
tender-ready construction drawings and specifications, accompanied by a Class B
cost estimate for future implementation. [Fall 2014 – Winter 2015/AECOM]
Colonel R.S. McLaughlin Armoury – Replace Rainwater System, Oshawa,
Ontario: Intern Architect directed two-phase project. Phase One report involved
documenting existing conditions, proposing recommendations and completed class D
cost estimate for approval by Defence Construction Canada (DCC). Phase Two
involved preparation of tender-ready construction drawings and specifications,
accompanied by a Class B cost estimate for future implementation. [Fall 2014 –
Winter 2015/AECOM]
INDUSTRIAL ARCHITECTURE
Ashbridges Bay Water Treatment Plant New Waste Activated Sludge Thickening
(WAST) System Proposal: Participation of design proposal included the coordination
of process engineering disciplines with traditional structural, mechanical, electrical
consultants. Synchronization of large centrifuge equipment, WAS and TWAS storage
tanks, polymer mixing stations, odour control, staff space and other various process
program required integration into both existing and new building structures on the site.
Participated in the development of RFP program requirements with consultants and
the preliminary design concepts to determine the ideal spatial requirements that best
satisfied the client’s program, optimized process functionality and took into account
lifecycle operational costing in evaluating alternatives. [September 2012 – December
2012/AECOM]
Ashbridges Bay Water Treatment Plant New Influent Pumping Station Proposal:
Participation of design proposal included lead designer for architectural synthesis of
pre-engineered program and master planning interface with Treatment Plant,
Lakeshore community, and Ashbridges Bay. [Fall 2014 – present /AECOM]
Ashbridges Bay Water Treatment Plant Effluent Disinfection System Building:
Participation of design development included lead designer for architectural
coordination with process engineering. Functional programming analysis and building
massing studies addressed the relationship between the Treatment Plant and Lake
Ontario. Contemporary industrial architectural concept proposed a new brand and
language for future development on the campus. [Fall 2014 – present /AECOM]

TRANSIT ARCHITECTURE Scarborough Subway Extension, Toronto, Ontario. Project Architect involved with Terminal Sheppard East Station and Scarborough Centre Station. The proposed Scarborough Subway Extension will replace the Scarborough RT and contribute to an integrated and comprehensive transit network in the city. The project involved complex programming and collaborative phasing to minimize impact to operations of various transit connections and services. Assisted in leading multidisciplinary design studies and reports of station layout and sizing, modeling, adjacent properties access and parking, and drafting studies linking existing and proposed infrastructure. Participated in design development and cumulative stakeholder presentations of progress reviews. [Fall 2015 – present /AECOM] Vaughan Metropolitan Centre VIVA BRT Station, Vaughan, Ontario. Project Architect and coordination lead for the VMC station along a Bus Rapid Transit System. The open air bus shelter is a component of the larger transit interchange with direct access to the TYSSE subway terminal station. Responsible for managing Revit in the design and coordination between the QSD consortium consultants and the contractor in a design-build contract. Assisted in managing multidisciplinary coordination efforts with detail design and solutions for integration of the bus terminal and underground concourse with the TYSSE subway station below.   • 2. Eglinton Crosstown LRT bid proposal, Canada: Light Rail Transit Network Expansion connecting a 19-kilometre corridor between Mt. Dennis (Weston Road) and Kennedy Station. Delivered using the Alternative Financing and Procurement (AFP) model, the proposal included a 10-kilometre underground section and a total 15 Stations and 10 stops. As part of bidding consortium, design lead for AECOM under Project Architect, responsible for Mt. Dennis Station complex integrating Terminal Station and LRT Maintenance and Storage Facility, Don Mills and Bayview In-line Stations, and Kennedy Interchange Station. Intern responsibilities included: iterative management of PSOS compliance, station sizing and programming analysis, preparation of client (construction joint venture) and stakeholder (Infrastructure Ontario, Metrolinx, TTC) presentations, coordination with international partners, and management of detailing through design development. [Winter 2014 – Fall 2015 /AECOM] Commercial-Broadway Station, Vancouver British Columbia: Multi-modal transit interchange hub connecting the Expo Lines and Millennium lines with bus networks. The project involved integrating an additional platform to the elevated Expo line and connecting bridge across Broadway, expanding existing bridge across Grandview Cut, and rebranding entire station; currently comprised of disparate station elements and wayfinding vocabularies. Design lead under Project Architect, broad range of responsibilities included: station sizing analysis, iterative development of 2- and 3- dimensional schematic design alternatives, preparation of client and city presentations, product and materials design research, and assembly detailing through design development. [Spring 2013 - present /AECOM] Sheppard West Station, Toronto Ontario: Multi-modal transit station linking subway, GO Trains, and bus routes above and below ground. The project involved collaborative design work with UK firm AEDAS to deliver world-class transit design with seamless operations of various transit connections and services.   • 3. Chaplin Station, Toronto, Ontario: In-line Light Rail Transit Station. Participation in the development of preliminary design concepts, station massing, and spatial relationships satisfying the client and stakeholder’s programmatic station requirements. Schematic design process included the development of project-wide design concept and the refinement of site-specific contextual responses; location and massing of three station entrances (Naturalized Park, Urban Station, Urban Parkette) and underground interior station architecture. Intern role included the analysis and selection of building and engineering systems, specifically related to the tunnel ventilation system (TVS) and the unique coordination and design of the station ventilation through sculpted architectural elements. Review and integration of various sources of programming literature and stakeholder criteria. [Spring 2012 – Winter 2012/AECOM] Oakwood Station, Toronto Ontario: In-line Light Rail Transit Station. Proposed along the Eglinton Crosstown (ECLRT) project, a 19-kilometre light rail transit line (LRT) that will run along Eglinton Avenue. The ECLRT will connect west (Jane Street/Black Creek Drive) to east (Kennedy Station). Participated in value engineering exercises during schematic design phase. Attended public open houses on behalf of transit client to interact with neighbourhood groups and present design progress. Lead designer under project architect in the development of preliminary design concepts, station massing, and spatial relationships satisfying the client and stakeholder’s programmatic station requirements. [Fall 2011 – Spring 2013/AECOM] Bronte Station, Oakville, Ontario. Transit Masterplan. Working under lead architect in the study and generation of functional masterplan integrating existing transit program into an amalgamated vision for the future enhancement of the station facilities. Design development incorporated public workshops output and Metrolinx design criteria and sought to improve both pedestrian and vehicle access to the station which connects a heavy rail system to the downtown area of Toronto. Incorporating localized restrictions associated with existing major utilities, existing heavy rail thoroughfare, and existing structures; evaluated needs and opportunities of pedestrians, transit users, accessibility and private vehicle circulation were systematically integrated. [Spring 2012 – Fall 2014 /AECOM] Lawrence Station – Easier Access, Toronto, Ontario: Review of station egress capacity and evacuation time associated with both existing conditions and proposed design alternatives. Project emphasis was to incorporate accessible transit ridership with both Subway and Bus connections at Lawrence Station. Utilizing both Ontario Building Code (OBC) codes and local transit authority design guidelines, calculations of egress included a number of variables including number, size, location, and capacity of existing and proposed vertical circulation elements (VCEs) within the existing station layout. [Winter 2012 - present /AECOM] Union Pearson Express Airport Station at Terminal 1, Toronto, Ontario: Pearson International Airport infrastructure and station addition. Member of multidisciplinary AirLinx design team developing design and construction documents for large airport addition project. Participated in the original P3 proposal phase designing station in tandem with program compliance and stakeholder presentations. Post-award involvement included: design development and detail synchronization, building programming, co-ordination among multiple disciplines and consultants, drafting, and participated in construction phase contract administration services. Working within the bidding consortium Intern role was to assist with the development of concept station designs for both underground and above ground stations and integration into the existing context. McLaughlin Armoury – Replace Rainwater System, Oshawa, Ontario: Intern Architect directed two-phase project. [Fall 2014 – Winter 2015/AECOM] INDUSTRIAL ARCHITECTURE Ashbridges Bay Water Treatment Plant New Waste Activated Sludge Thickening (WAST) System Proposal: Participation of design proposal included the coordination of process engineering disciplines with traditional structural, mechanical, electrical consultants. Synchronization of large centrifuge equipment, WAS and TWAS storage tanks, polymer mixing stations, odour control, staff space and other various process program required integration into both existing and new building structures on the site. Participated in the development of RFP program requirements with consultants and the preliminary design concepts to determine the ideal spatial requirements that best satisfied the client’s program, optimized process functionality and took into account lifecycle operational costing in evaluating alternatives. [September 2012 – December 2012/AECOM] Ashbridges Bay Water Treatment Plant New Influent Pumping Station Proposal: Participation of design proposal included lead designer for architectural synthesis of pre-engineered program and master planning interface with Treatment Plant, Lakeshore community, and Ashbridges Bay.
