weeks

Seventy-six students packed the “BRING IT
ON: LAST FIVE WEEKS OF THE SEMESTER”
workshop held by the Center of Academic
Excellence (CAE) on November 7. The
workshop gave students the resources to get
themselves organized for the final five weeks
of the semester.
The event began with a calendar overview of
the last five weeks of the semester. Students
were reminded about the stress management
session with therapy dogs on December 10
and they were also given FPU’s final exam
schedules by Karissa Forzese, CAE Graduate
Assistant.
Forzese also told students, “I want you take
your hardest class or the class your struggling
with and take the class and write it down on
the handout (final exam schedule) and write
down the time and place of where your final
exam will be. This will help you guys a lot so

you’ll know exactly where your supposed to
be.”
They also advised students for their midterm
grades, syllabus, email and to speak with their
professor about grades as well.
“Ask your professor what he or she thinks you
need to do to succeed in the class,” said
Tracy Mendham,Coordinator of Learning
Assistance for the CAE. “Number one,
because you find out the answer to that
question and number two because it makes a
good impression on that professor that you
care because they may think that you don’t
care at all and they may not be giving you
everything you need or might want because
they don’t think you care.”
The presentation also touched on making sure
that students gave themselves plenty of time
to study. According to Mendham, this also
helps student give priority to the most
pressing and difficult assignments such as
term papers and plan out how they were
going to complete assignments.
When additional help is required the provided
information on contacting the Center for
Academic Excellence and the Writing Center
to help with completing term papers and
working on time management skills, where
students get individual help.
“Your education is your responsibility, but your
not on a solitary venture anymore,” said
Mendham. “You don’t even have to be
independent, you only need to be
interdependent.”
The event was run by Mendham, Forzese and
Karen Brown, Associate Dean for Student
Success and Advising.
