20. HOW DOES A HORROR FILM WORK/APEAL TO A AUDIENCE?
A horror film works so well because of its gratification of what's not real and what is an audience
watching a horror film knowing its scary and bloody and gory and etc. Knowing this still makes
them watch it’s the feeling of knowing but it could be different for each horror movie. Its become
so neutral for us to enjoy ‘horror’ some deeming it barbarian and scary in a way horror is
disgusting showing body parts ripped up and fed sometimes but us humans have an almost
want for it at this point the more we see the more like giving the feeling of its not right but its
insanely good to almost be scared? Be disgusted? And so on. A horror film gives us what we
want scary scenes and nightmares about that one scene but we as consumer need to know
that’s its bad because knowing makes it better as a consumer. From a filmmakers perspective
they work on catteries and what works for that horror film and what doesn't for instance
filmmakers tend to use tension, emotion, mystery, suspense, gore, terror, and shock in their film
thus bringing in more hungry fans who want to actually be scared and frightened. As well as
real horror you would think ‘based on a true story might seem unfit and not get a lot of tension
but literally the opposite saying its based on a true story pulls viewers in knowing its ’true’ can
be truly vile to see the recreation of scenes and murders but as horror consumer see more
horrible and unholy stuff they crave more. Horror having the fundamentals of horror is enough
and appeals to the audience every time watching and rewatching horror movies can be truly
frightening knowing its got the basics but adding new and terrifying elements.
