This ppt contains a summary of the life of Jack Kilby and his contribution to the history of computers. His design to combine transistors, resistors, and capacitors to make an Integrated Circuit (IC) led to the revolution of the field of microelectronics.
As of today, there are a lot of different things that are now developed and improved by many technological innovations, but we shouldn’t forget Kilby’s work, as it serves
as an important step towards the technology we have today.

× Instead of using different transistors,
resistors, and capacitors to make a
circuit, Kilby’s IC design fused the
transistor, capacitor, and the
equivalent of three resistors all on the
same chip.

× The first IC was made out of a
thin slice of germanium as a
bulk resistor and contained a
single bipolar transistor

terminals (the small vertical
aluminum bars), a ground (the
large bar on the far right), and
wires of gold.

U.S. Patent 3,138,743 for "Miniaturized
Electronic Circuits", the first integrated
circuit, was filed on February 6, 1959
10. × He also invented the
handheld calculator.
× And was also
responsible for the
thermal printer that
was used in early
portable data
terminals.

11. × In 1970, he took a
leave of absence from
TI to work as an
independent inventor.
× He explored, among
other subjects, the use
of silicon technology
for generating
electrical power from
sunlight.

12. × From 1978 to 1984 he
held the position of
Distinguished
Professor of Electrical
Engineering at Texas
A&M University.
× And in 1983, Kilby
retired from Texas
Instruments.
