Objective
I am in search of a school that has an atmosphere of community, and helps its
students as well as its educators become not just better informed, but better
people, by building interpersonal relationships and providing support when
needed. I have experience with grades K-2, but I am hoping to find a position
that is subject specific and will allow me to focus on honing my instruction in
one or two areas, most likely in a slightly higher grade.

For the last 2 years, I have utilized a system of distributing money for grades,
attendance, and behavior, and taking “fines” for not following expectations.
Students use their money to buy goods in my “class store” every few
weeks. Students must keep track of their money, which promotes
responsibility.
Visualizing
My students enjoy listening to music and drawing what the lyrics and
instrumentation mean to them. I use a variety of music, from instrumental,
to age-appropriate pop and rock from the 1960’s to today. We do this
activity if we have extra time at the end of the day, or after a high energy
time like recess. In addition to being a calming activity, this promotes
imagination and creativity.
Conscious Discipline and other Stress Management Techniques
I am very aware of the fact that many students may become highly stressed
during the course of the school day, and that this impedes their focus and
learning. I teach several ways to deal with these frustrations at the
beginning of the year, and try to model them throughout our time together.
