1. 1. Pop/ Post- Disco/ Rhythm & Blues. This is reflected
when Michael Jackson is shown dancing through the
street.
2. The camera man/ detective is shown trying to
catch Michael Jackson in the act with a women who
he had allegedly had a child with.
3. The images relate to the music as Michael Jackson
is shown dancing and this reflects the genre of pop
and post- disco.
4. The close up dancing is iconic and he shows some of his
signature moves, this is his selling point as people all
around the world recognise these moves. There are a lot
of close ups with MJ to draw the audience in and watch
what he’s doing, possibly to connect with the audience.
5. Michael looks into the camera whilst he is dancing and
therefore ‘takes down the 4th wall’ between himself and
the audience, and therefore engages with them. There’s
no reference to voyeuristic looking as there’s no women
involved.
6. He detective with the camera could refer
to the crime genre- the jacket, hat &
shades.
7. The camera angles are simple in comparison
to the editing which more advanced and fit
well.
8. The narrative is about MJ allegedly had a child
with a women who went to the press about it.
2. 1. K-pop. The dancing style and the way the song has been sung, in
Korean, with a mix of English, had a huge impact and was a hit
around the world for people of all ages. The Korean singing reflects
the genre of the video.
2. The word “Gangnam” is a wealthy district in South Korea, and
therefore the lyrics mean a wealthy style of living. The music video
which includes flash cars, suits and plenty of women could possibly
reflect this style of living.
3. The music is Korean pop, upbeat and exciting. The dancing and
comedy aspect of the video can relate to this because the music is
bubbly and can be danced to. The bright colours link to the music
because its pop.
4. The artist Psy is sold through his dance, but he also has an image:
combed back hair and glasses. His dance is done around the world
and links to the music and is therefore his selling point.
5. Psy does face the camera, although the shades he wears
cover his eyes so we are unable to see if he’s looking into the
camera. Women are presented voyeuristically, being looked
up and down, although the lead female is Psy’s counterpart. 6. no?
7. The camera is at a medium height when the chorus is sung
on the first 2 occasions, because the dance takes place and it
allows the audience to see the group of dancers in formation.
The final chorus has a high shot of the group of dancers and
takes different angled shots. The dancers are often in the
same colour, although again, the final chorus has a mix of
costumes.
8. There is a small narrative- the dance battle between the
other man who arrives in his flash car, and the woman who
Psy aims to dance with and make love to. Its selling point is
that it isn’t structured and it’s random. That is possibly the
reason it has done so well with 2.4 billion views- the most
viewed video on youtube.
3. 1. House. The music video is very different although the
occasional dancing on the drop does indicate that it is a
house tune.
2. The images are very random and through this, it can
relate to ‘Gangnam style’ which is also very random. But
being a different genre means that this video is very
different to usual house music videos.
3. The images show very oddly dressed men and women
doing odd activities and this is possibly a selling point for
the music video. The images have no reflection to the
music other than the dancing.
4. The artist isn’t revealed in the music video because
he’s a DJ, although the music video may reveal what the
DJ wants his music to make people feel and that’s his
selling point.
5. Looking is a big part of the close ups in the music
video but because there is a lot of people dancing
involved, eye contact is often lost. Shades are often
used for a lot of the people, the only real eye contact
made is by the woman who mouths the words. The
women are voyeurised as the women wear less
clothing and are looked up and down by the camera.
6. Unsure.
7. The people wear futuristic costumes, very
colourful, possibly ideas from the 70’s of the future.
The costumes are very colourful, like the two men in
bright suits. The quick cuts make for a very scatty
music video which makes it look very random and a
lot going on.
8. There's no narrative, just very random scenes.
