I. LEARNING PURPOSES
I can …
A. Content:
discuss the cylindrical and spherical coordinates;
B. Language:
solve the cylindrical and spherical coordinates in Cartesian
coordinates (or vice versa);
C. Social:
Develop patience and teamwork with their partners in answering
different problems of cylindrical and spherical coordinates.
II. SUBJECT MATTER: SPACE COORDINATES
A. References: Analytic Geometry By: Felipe L. Comandante, Jr.
Pages: 299-304
B. Materials: PowerPoint Presentation, Projector, Book, and Marker.
III. EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
A. Essential Understanding:
1. Students will understand the importance and application of cylindrical
and spherical in a real world especially in engineering such as building
constructions.
B. Essential Question/s:
1. How important are cylindrical and spherical in building constructions?
IV. INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES
A. Introduction (Acquisition)
Activity 1: Motivation: Teacher will show different figures and ask the
students to identify if it is cylindrical or sphere.
B. Interaction (Understanding/Making Meaning)
Day 1.
Activity 1: Interactive Discussion: Teacher will present to the class the
cylindrical coordinates and present examples, afterwards students will
discuss in their own words on how to find the cylindrical coordinates
through the given example.
Activity 2: Think/Pair/Share: Students will find their partner and answer
the given sets of problems involving vylindrical coordinates.
Solve the following problems. (10pts each)
1.) Convert from Cartesian coordinates to cylindrical coordinates
a. (1,1,2) b. (0,1,-1) c. (2,1,3)
2.) Find the cylindrical coordinates of point (1,1,1) in Cartesian
coordinates.

Day 2.
Activity 1: Discussion: Teacher will introduce the spherical coordinates
and how it is connected to culindrical coordinates the provide examples.
Activity 2: Think/Pair/Share: Students will find their partner and answer
the given sets of problems combining the cylindrical and spherical
coordinates.
Solve the following problems (10 points each).
1. Find the spherical coordinates of point (3,2,1) in Cartesian coordinates.
2. Find the Cartesian coordinates of point (1,π/2,3) in cylindrical
coordinates.
3. Find an equation in cylindrical coordinates and in spherical coordinates
for the graph of the equation x2 + y2 + z2 = 4.
4. Find an equation in Cartesian coodinates for the equation
p = 2sinφcosθ.
V. ASSESSMENT TOOL
Paper-and-pencil
VI. ENRICHMENT/ASSIGNMENT
ASSIGNMENT: Problem Solving:
A. Find an equation in cylindrical coordinates and in
spherical coordinates for the graph of x2 – y2 – z2 = 1 in
