My name is Jessy Robison and this summer I worked the FIAT brand communications team, and also had exposure to the product and operations team.
I’m a senior at Eastern Michigan University double majoring in marketing and graphic design graduating this December.
I have a dog named Juno that might be more spoiled than an actual child.
I’m creative and I have a big passion of photography, and really love creating any kind of art,
I enjoy graphic design, and before I even started Casey was putting my skills to use back in November.
Once I finally had my feet in the building, I worked directly upon the FIAT and Vans partnership.
Vans BMX riders came to ride around and do tricks at headquarters to result in a video that is now featured on top BMX blogs.
Initially, we were told this couldn’t be done, but once I sat down and talked to several departments, everything started to come together.
I coordinated meetings with security, safety, and legal in order to make this day happen.
The day was successful and my first exposure to working with a partnership and talent,
which was a great learning experience, and helped to strengthen our partnership with Vans.
My first production shoot was with Roadtrippers, which is an alternative trip advisor and featured road tripping in the 500X from Seattle to Southern California.
Roadtrippers is a small company that has not had much production experience with a brand like FIAT,
which was a challenge, however this taught he how to lead on a production shoot and I ensured the vehicle was always represented correctly.
My main takeaway from this, was to expect the unexpected and to always be flexible.
My summer long project was leading a studio shoot which allowed me to help strengthen my photography background,
This was a one-day production at a local studio, and the purpose was to update dealer assets and provide CRM assets.
I was responsible for securing the location, working with an agency, attaining vehicles, wardrobe, and talent.
To be efficient with our budget, I recruited interns for our models.
For our assets, we agreed upon 4-6 shots, and actually received around 70.
This shoot taught me how to manage a production budget and the importance of planning ahead.
This summer, I also led was the FIAT for a weekend intern program.
The program is now in it’s 5th year, and allows all 500 interns to submit proposals to win a FIAT for the weekend.
2 winners are selected each week to receive a car and spend their weekend how they choose.
Each week I read around 50 weekend proposals to select from, and it was rewarding to hear about the weekends when keys were turned back in.
After another summer, the program is still highly successful, and resonates positively among the interns.
Interns took the FIAT to New York, Canada, Traverse City, and Cedar Point among many other locations.
We get free content in return and millennials have a chance to drive our cars to open their exposure to our cars and the brand.
This year was extra special, because with the launch of the new FIAT 500x, interns had the opportunity to drive a car not yet in studios, and helped to support our launch.
My first main takeaway is that I learned the importance of building a network for the future, making connections, and building these relationships.
Not only did I have the opportunity to build relationships within FCA, but my team allowed me to visit our agencies we work closely with,
And to shadow individuals in order to help build this network.
Lastly, Casey told me a motto of his of never saying no at the start of my summer – which really resonated with me.
Following this motto through my entire summer and all my projects, I pushed myself out of my boundaries and explored more opportunities by saying yes.
This also meant the day he wanted me to get on and ride an electric skateboard, I couldn’t say no.
I’m so thankful I received a yes to interning here at FCA, and I’m completely humbled by my experience here.
I want to thank everyone here –
In one way or another, I’ve had the opportunity to learn something from all of you in this room today,
I’m excited to take what I’ve learned here into my next chapter – thank you.
