1. EVALUATION – MY USE OF
MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN
THE CONSTRUCTION AND
RESEARCH, PLANNING
AND EVALUATION STAGES
Jessica Dinmore
2. Introduction
During the construction and research, planning
and evaluation process, a large amount of
media technologies were used. These all
helped us to develop and create our final
product.
This PowerPoint will clearly explain what type
of technology I used and my reasons for using
them.
3. Wikipedia and Google
The internet was my main research tool. Using
secondary information gathered via search
engines such as Google and Wikipedia, I was
able to gather information on our artist (Ben
Howard) and the music industry itself.
4. YouTube
Used for researching similar genre music
videos to our own.
As a multi-media search engine, YouTube
allowed us to observe other A2 Media
Products which gave us an insight into what
we wanted to do. For example:

5. Twitter and Facebook
Alongside YouTube, these social networking
sites allowed me to promote and advertise our
music video so that we were able to get
feedback from a wide range of people.
6. iMovie’11 9.0.8
for the Mac and iOS (iPhone, iPad, ipad
mini and iPod touch). It was originally released in
1999 as a Mac OS 8application
Editing software iMovie’11 9.0.8 where we edited
all our clips and sound. Using iMovie allowed us
to use other Apple products such as iTunes
(where we stored our music) and we then
transferred it from there to iMovie where we were
able to trim, fade and add effects to it (although
we did not do this as it was not appropriate to out
genre of music).
7. Survey Monkey
Another form of technology that we used
during the research was Survey Monkey, as I
previously mentioned this was a highly
effective way of getting audience
feedback, equally we could access it at any
time to analyse our results.
A web survey development cloud based
company, founded in 1999 by Ryan Finley.
8. Tumblr
Tumblr.com has been the website that I have
logged every event and piece of progress that
has been made.
Tumblr is a microblogging platform and social
networking website, owned and operated by
Tumblr, Inc. A statistic says that on March
26th, 2013, Tumblr has over 100 million blogs.
This has enabled me to keep an up to date
stream of work.
9. SlideShare
Launched on October 4, 2006, the website is
considered to be similar to YouTube but for
slideshows. Originally meant to be used for
businesses to share slides among employees
more easily, but it has since expanded to also
become a host of a large number of slides which
are uploaded for entertainment purposes.
This is another way I have presented media. An
example of this our initial ideas power point and
this evaluation power point.
10. PagePlus
Predominantly used to construct my two print
tasks.
A desktop publishing program developed
by Serif.
Contains the feature ‘Image Cut Out Studio’
allowing me to cut out part of the image I don’t
want.
11. Photoshop
I used this to edit and add effects to photos.
This was only used for my ancillary products.
The effects on this allowed me to adjust
contrast, saturation and add effects such as a
glow or blur to my products.
By comparing other indie music adverts and
digipak/ CD cases, I used these elements in
my own product so they looked like a real life
media product.
12. Software To Record The Song
Below is a list of software we used to record our song
Microphones:
• Shure SM7B (used on Vocals)
• Audix SCX1 (used on acoustic guitar)
Computer:
• Apple Mac
Software:
• Logic Pro 9 (for recording)
• Pro Tools 9 (for mixing)
Filming/Photos:
• Iphone
• Tripod
By using this software, we were able to record the highest quality sound and discard
of any unwanted takes or noises that were made. We then applied this to out music
video and further edited it on there.
