Having a good laugh and working hard are not mutually exclusive;
just ask Chris Ripani, new Speedco President.
Chris is a man who likes a good laugh.“I find humor everywhere
in every situation. If you look around you’ll always find something
funny no matter where you are,”he said. For all the laughing
he does, Chris is a hard worker,“I tend to wok a lot, however,
weekends belong to my family.”
A family man, Chris said,“I truly get all of my energy from my
children. They also take a bunch of my energy. I’m always telling
stories about them. Family is important to me and I find you can
always talk about them.”
He and his wife, Jane, have three kids, Eli (10), Luke (8), and
Ali (5). You’ll find him spending his free moments traveling to
sporting and music events for them. In those few spare moments
between family and work, Chris also tries to contribute his time
and talent at his church or support causes like Second Harvest or
Wounded Warriors when he is able.
When he’s not playing kid chauffer or generous volunteer, Chris
is diligently working and leading, though not as the Spielberg he
once envisioned himself to be. Chris originally went to school to
study film, but he said“I quickly found out I wasn’t as creative
as I thought I was.” He moved on from his Spielberg dreams and
majored in marketing at Columbia College in Chicago instead.
During his college years, he fell
into the tire industry.“I’ve always
loved cars and boats or basically
anything with a motor. I’m not a
mechanic but I love messing with
automotive stuff (or breaking
it) […] I was in school getting a
marketing degree and I decided
to go work at a tire shop as I
thought it would be fun to work
on cars. Instead, they put me
behind the counter selling tires
and I actually did a decent job
with it,”Chris tells.
After he graduated, Chris briefly
managed a tire store, leading to more jobs in the auto and tire
industry with Bauer Built, Inc., CarMax, Falken Tire Corporation, and
Sears Tire Group. Eventually he found his way into commercial tires,
leading him to Bridgestone.

A Quick Read From Speedco
Meeting the New President, Chris Ripani
(Continued from Page 1)
Chris joined Bridgestone in 2001 and has spent the last 14 years increasing his knowledge, skill sets, and responsibilities. He
began his career at Bridgestone as a Territory Sales Manager for Bridgestone Commercial. Through growth and hard work,
Chris moved up through multiple positions including Channel Marketing Manager, Director of Marketing, Communications,
and Services, and Director of Marketing, Strategic Brands, and Channels. From there he moved into his last role as the
Executive Director of Marketing, Commercial Stores Division.
Professionally, Chris has a passion and a knack for working with people and leading teams. “I love to find the talent in
everyone and extract that. I’m also very creative and enjoy innovating around ideas and bringing those to life,”he said.
To help him on his professional path, Chris has completed leadership and strategy programs at the University of Phoenix,
Vanderbilt University, and Harvard University.
With all of his leadership and strategy knowledge, Chris leaves you with his favorite words of wisdom:“In matters of style,
swim with the current. In matters of principle, stand like a rock.”–Thomas Jefferson

SPEEDCO SAFETY UPDATEAre we doing everything in our power to ensure safety at Speedco?
Every accident is preventable. We don't stress safety because we want to or because we have to, we
do it because it should be the number one thing on our minds at work every day. Safety is the critical
key to ensure every teammate and customer makes it out of the shop and to their destination at the
end of each day.
Help us raise safety awareness at Speedco. Remember these points. Share them with your team-
mates. Discuss them during your meetings. Remember them and be the safety example.
1. Double check: If in doubt, double check the bolt, double check the torque, and double check the
policy. Don’t make a choice to save time or money that could cost us more in the end.
2. Secure the Boss: It’s an important part of our model to allow the Boss in the shop. However, please
ensure they are in safe zones and following safety procedures. Please do not allow them to wander the shop area, escort them to a
safe area or waiting room.
3. Use safety equipment: Use safety Personal Protective Equipment and safety signs (example: safety glasses, wet floor signs.) They
help protect us, but just as important, they raise awareness. Using PPE and signs puts you in a mental state for safety and is a visual
reminder to teammates and the Boss.
4. Be responsible for safety: Management must be the leader for safety. Set the example by obeying all safety rules. Also always
and consistently address identified safety issues from wearing PPE to using the proper tools for the job including cages for tire
inflation.
Ladders may only be used when taking oil measurements
in the bulk oil tanks. However, if the placement of your bulk
oil tank gauge requires the use of a ladder to be read, we
ask that you look for alternative means of obtaining the
measurement without the use of a ladder.
The FAI ladder (rolling ladder with handrails and platform)
may be used to perform FAI related service for customers but
may not be used for other tasks.
The use of a step ladder or extension ladder to change light
bulbs, clean or move the security cameras, adjust door
sensors, paint, etc. is not permitted. The only exception to
this policy is as follows: Light bulbs may still be changed with
a step-stool or stepladder if it does not require the teammate
to be four feet or higher in the air.
Again, the use of a ladder that places a teammate 4 feet or
higher in the air is not acceptable for any task other than bulk
oil tank readings
Limit Ladder Usage
Now, more than ever, we need to remember to place the
floor mats down. As we head into a cold, wet winter, the
chance for slippage and falling is great. Help prevent this
unnecessary danger. Remember, all safety accidents are
preventable.
After you are done cleaning, please remember to
immediately replace your floor mats in the bays. If your floor
is wet, please wait until it has completely dried to replace the
mats. Placing a mat on a wet surface is dangerous! The mat
could slip and pose a serious risk.
Be sure when you are placing your floor mats, they are in the
correct area. They should be lined up with where the driver
will step down from their truck.
Floor mats are not an option. Please remember to replace
your floor mats after cleaning and ensure they are in the
correct area for each and every bay.
Utilize Non-Slip Mats

bragging rights, along with a great prize. Start racking your brains. What will speak to the Boss?

“In the winter, I wasn’t sure if I would even be around, I’m just blessed
to have been able to compete this year.”Greg Kyte, General Manager
Speedco 323 in Joplin, has spent the last year battling cancer. He was
unsure if he would be able to compete in a sport he loved so much,
the World Long Drive Championship. Thankfully, Greg is on the mend
and getting back to a regular routine of work and golf, including the
long drive competition.
The World Long Drive Championship is not like any ordinary golf
tournament, but rather one designed for long distance hitters. Greg
has been a participant almost every year since his first competition in
2004. He has even made it to the quarter and semifinals in multiple
appearances!
Greg first became interested in golf when a friend, a retired NFL player,
invited Greg to join him at a charity golf outing. He picked up the sport
quickly and realized just how good he was at hitting the ball especially
far.
Greg says that one of his favorite parts about competing in the long
drive program is that he is able to meet and play with golfers from all
over the world. The camaraderie and competition of the game really
lift his spirits and cause him to return every year.
Although the World Long Drive Championship is his favorite
tournament, Greg loves to play exhibition matches and charity
tournaments. A tournament he regularly supports is one that benefits
Camp Barnabas, a summer camp in
Missouri for children with extreme
physical or mental handicaps that
cannot attend typical summer camps.
Greg has been supporting this camp
for more than a decade and loves
to give back by doing something
he enjoys so much.“Campers are
featured every year, and I am just
so touched by kids that are there
handing out t-shirts or just having a
good time. I’m hooked now,”he said.
His advice to golfers is to simply enjoy the game. Golf offers a great
way to stay in shape, build strength, reduce stress, and enjoy healthy
competition.“There is no need to be the best, you can just compete at
local tournaments or charity events,”he advised. Golf has been a main
ingredient on his road to recovery and a key part of his rehabilitation.
We are proud of Greg and his eagerness to get back to the game that
he loves. Although this competition did not go as well as the past,
Greg is adamant to get a championship ring in the years to come.
With his drive (pun intended) and determination, it’s bound to happen
soon.

Is your computer slow? Tired of waiting on your iPad to complete a transaction or
finish the selection you made?
The computer hardware in Speedco stores has been neglected for long enough.
Your business solutions team is currently overhauling the entire store computer
setup.
Speedco 322 was the first to be integrated with the new technology and it was
a success! With the new server work orders are completed three to four minutes
compared to well over the ten minute time frame previosuly. This has helped to
deter several frustrated customers and teammates as a result.
For those waiting, we are going as fast as we can!
Speedco is updating the
technology used to input
services and checkout
customers!
Gail Althouse:
WOW! That was fast!”
Corinne Lorusso:
“iPOS was first installed and down a lot of the
time…. I am not patient and now iPOS can keep up
with me”
Kristie Dutcher:
“iPOS Entry’s would take 10 to 15 minutes
before…. We can do them in 3 to 4 minutes
now. System is A LOT faster!”

You know those trucks you see driving down the road that make you do a double take?
We’ve ran into a few of them at Transco Lines Inc. These trucks go beyond making us do
a double take, they stir up patriotism and make us stop to show respect for their drivers.
The idea for the wrapped trucks was presented as a great way to honor all of those who
have served.“I don’t know that we did it for any other reason other than we just wanted
to show our respect. It’s who we are,”said Anne-Marie Hojnacki, Director of Capacity
Development.
TLI sought input from veteran drivers to help capture the feeling of each branch
that they wanted to portray.“We were all very much involved in the whole process,”
Hojnacki said.
The first round of trucks was composed of Volvo wrapped tractors. TLI wrapped one
for the US Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force while Riverside Transport wrapped one
for the US Army. The unveiling was to honor the men and women who have made
sacrifices and show everybody that the company stands behind the armed forces.
With five Peterbuilt tractors, TLI wrapped them to support the US Navy, Air Force,
Marine Corps, and POW/MIA service personnel.
Army
Marine Corps.
Navy
“The whole goal behind all off this is to support our veterans and show people
we are avid supports of the military,”said Hojnacki.“When you’re driving one of
those trucks and people stand at attention and salute it…it’s amazing.”
Though the second round of wrapped trucks went straight to work without a
grand unveiling, there are still plenty of opportunities to admire them. They’re
out traveling the roads and it’s not out of the question that they’ll be a part of
events supporting the military and honoring veterans.
“For me, being a part of the military myself, it’s a sense of pride that never
leaves you. The most important thing about it is that it sets us a part from
everyone else,”said Hojnacki.“Everyone [veterans] can look at those
trucks and say‘that’s me.’”
Next time you see one of these trucks driving down the road, give the
drivers a wave or take the time to say“thank you”if you’re stopped next
to them at a rest area. After all, as is fitting, the teams of drivers for
each truck are all veterans of the military branch matching the truck
they’re driving.

Chris originally went to school to study film, but he said“I quickly found out I wasn’t as creative as I thought I was.” He moved on from his Spielberg dreams and majored in marketing at Columbia College in Chicago instead. During his college years, he fell into the tire industry.“I’ve always loved cars and boats or basically anything with a motor. I’m not a mechanic but I love messing with automotive stuff (or breaking it) […] I was in school getting a marketing degree and I decided to go work at a tire shop as I thought it would be fun to work on cars. Instead, they put me behind the counter selling tires and I actually did a decent job with it,”Chris tells. After he graduated, Chris briefly managed a tire store, leading to more jobs in the auto and tire industry with Bauer Built, Inc., CarMax, Falken Tire Corporation, and Sears Tire Group. Eventually he found his way into commercial tires, leading him to Bridgestone. (Continued on Page 8) November 2015 A Quick Read From Speedco Meeting the New President, Chris Ripani (Continued from Page 1) Chris joined Bridgestone in 2001 and has spent the last 14 years increasing his knowledge, skill sets, and responsibilities. He began his career at Bridgestone as a Territory Sales Manager for Bridgestone Commercial. Through growth and hard work, Chris moved up through multiple positions including Channel Marketing Manager, Director of Marketing, Communications, and Services, and Director of Marketing, Strategic Brands, and Channels. From there he moved into his last role as the Executive Director of Marketing, Commercial Stores Division. Professionally, Chris has a passion and a knack for working with people and leading teams. “I love to find the talent in everyone and extract that. I’m also very creative and enjoy innovating around ideas and bringing those to life,”he said. To help him on his professional path, Chris has completed leadership and strategy programs at the University of Phoenix, Vanderbilt University, and Harvard University. With all of his leadership and strategy knowledge, Chris leaves you with his favorite words of wisdom:“In matters of style, swim with the current. SPEEDCO SPOTLIGHT 3 SPEEDCO SAFETY UPDATEAre we doing everything in our power to ensure safety at Speedco? Every accident is preventable. We don't stress safety because we want to or because we have to, we do it because it should be the number one thing on our minds at work every day. Safety is the critical key to ensure every teammate and customer makes it out of the shop and to their destination at the end of each day. Help us raise safety awareness at Speedco. Remember these points. Share them with your team- mates. Discuss them during your meetings. Remember them and be the safety example. 1. Double check: If in doubt, double check the bolt, double check the torque, and double check the policy. Don’t make a choice to save time or money that could cost us more in the end. 2. Secure the Boss: It’s an important part of our model to allow the Boss in the shop. However, please ensure they are in safe zones and following safety procedures. Please do not allow them to wander the shop area, escort them to a safe area or waiting room. 3. Use safety equipment: Use safety Personal Protective Equipment and safety signs (example: safety glasses, wet floor signs.) They help protect us, but just as important, they raise awareness. Using PPE and signs puts you in a mental state for safety and is a visual reminder to teammates and the Boss. 4. Be responsible for safety: Management must be the leader for safety. Set the example by obeying all safety rules. Also always and consistently address identified safety issues from wearing PPE to using the proper tools for the job including cages for tire inflation. Ladders may only be used when taking oil measurements in the bulk oil tanks. However, if the placement of your bulk oil tank gauge requires the use of a ladder to be read, we ask that you look for alternative means of obtaining the measurement without the use of a ladder. The FAI ladder (rolling ladder with handrails and platform) may be used to perform FAI related service for customers but may not be used for other tasks. The use of a step ladder or extension ladder to change light bulbs, clean or move the security cameras, adjust door sensors, paint, etc. is not permitted. The only exception to this policy is as follows: Light bulbs may still be changed with a step-stool or stepladder if it does not require the teammate to be four feet or higher in the air. Again, the use of a ladder that places a teammate 4 feet or higher in the air is not acceptable for any task other than bulk oil tank readings Limit Ladder Usage Now, more than ever, we need to remember to place the floor mats down. As we head into a cold, wet winter, the chance for slippage and falling is great. Help prevent this unnecessary danger. Remember, all safety accidents are preventable. After you are done cleaning, please remember to immediately replace your floor mats in the bays. If your floor is wet, please wait until it has completely dried to replace the mats. Placing a mat on a wet surface is dangerous! The mat could slip and pose a serious risk. Be sure when you are placing your floor mats, they are in the correct area. They should be lined up with where the driver will step down from their truck. Floor mats are not an option. Please remember to replace your floor mats after cleaning and ensure they are in the correct area for each and every bay. Utilize Non-Slip Mats Have you seen the new #ROADNATION merchandise? He was unsure if he would be able to compete in a sport he loved so much, the World Long Drive Championship. Thankfully, Greg is on the mend and getting back to a regular routine of work and golf, including the long drive competition. The World Long Drive Championship is not like any ordinary golf tournament, but rather one designed for long distance hitters. Greg has been a participant almost every year since his first competition in 2004. He has even made it to the quarter and semifinals in multiple appearances! Greg first became interested in golf when a friend, a retired NFL player, invited Greg to join him at a charity golf outing. He picked up the sport quickly and realized just how good he was at hitting the ball especially far. Greg says that one of his favorite parts about competing in the long drive program is that he is able to meet and play with golfers from all over the world. The camaraderie and competition of the game really lift his spirits and cause him to return every year. Although the World Long Drive Championship is his favorite tournament, Greg loves to play exhibition matches and charity tournaments. A tournament he regularly supports is one that benefits Camp Barnabas, a summer camp in Missouri for children with extreme physical or mental handicaps that cannot attend typical summer camps. Greg has been supporting this camp for more than a decade and loves to give back by doing something he enjoys so much.“Campers are featured every year, and I am just so touched by kids that are there handing out t-shirts or just having a good time. I’m hooked now,”he said. His advice to golfers is to simply enjoy the game. Golf offers a great way to stay in shape, build strength, reduce stress, and enjoy healthy competition.“There is no need to be the best, you can just compete at local tournaments or charity events,”he advised. Golf has been a main ingredient on his road to recovery and a key part of his rehabilitation. We are proud of Greg and his eagerness to get back to the game that he loves. Although this competition did not go as well as the past, Greg is adamant to get a championship ring in the years to come. With his drive (pun intended) and determination, it’s bound to happen soon. • 4. 34 35 You know those trucks you see driving down the road that make you do a double take? We’ve ran into a few of them at Transco Lines Inc. These trucks go beyond making us do a double take, they stir up patriotism and make us stop to show respect for their drivers. The idea for the wrapped trucks was presented as a great way to honor all of those who have served.“I don’t know that we did it for any other reason other than we just wanted to show our respect. It’s who we are,”said Anne-Marie Hojnacki, Director of Capacity Development. TLI sought input from veteran drivers to help capture the feeling of each branch that they wanted to portray.“We were all very much involved in the whole process,” Hojnacki said. The first round of trucks was composed of Volvo wrapped tractors. TLI wrapped one for the US Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force while Riverside Transport wrapped one for the US Army. The unveiling was to honor the men and women who have made sacrifices and show everybody that the company stands behind the armed forces. With five Peterbuilt tractors, TLI wrapped them to support the US Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and POW/MIA service personnel. Army Marine Corps. Navy “The whole goal behind all off this is to support our veterans and show people we are avid supports of the military,”said Hojnacki.“When you’re driving one of those trucks and people stand at attention and salute it…it’s amazing.” Though the second round of wrapped trucks went straight to work without a grand unveiling, there are still plenty of opportunities to admire them. They’re out traveling the roads and it’s not out of the question that they’ll be a part of events supporting the military and honoring veterans. “For me, being a part of the military myself, it’s a sense of pride that never leaves you. The most important thing about it is that it sets us a part from everyone else,”said Hojnacki.“Everyone [veterans] can look at those trucks and say‘that’s me.’” Next time you see one of these trucks driving down the road, give the drivers a wave or take the time to say“thank you”if you’re stopped next to them at a rest area. After all, as is fitting, the teams of drivers for each truck are all veterans of the military branch matching the truck they’re driving.
