Competences and Skills:
As a Gallery Assistant at Castle Galleries, Trafford Centre, Manchester I had
an opportunity to be involved in all aspects of a successful gallery. In my role
it was my responsibility to act as a curator for the gallery, caring for the pieces
and making sure they are correctly delivered and received. This involved
using my administration skills, such as logging deliveries, organising artist
events and openings and keeping accounting records up to date. When there
was an opening for a particular artist I would organise the even by contacting
clients, greeting them and introducing them to the gallery. Communication
was key to meet the requirements of clients and artists and I do this well, as I
am passionate and enthusiastic about my work. I have also held a part time
cleaning job that taught me to work hard to achieve perfect results in
sometimes difficult environments.
I graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in the summer of 2014 with a
First class honours degree in Fine Art. During my time at university I learned
valuable work place skills such as working as a part of team. This was
brought to the fore when we were tasked with organising the end of year
2. show. I played a number of different roles within this activity, including;
fundraiser, technical advisor and curator. This taught me to engage will all
sorts of people and achieve results that suited everyone involved. My
dissertation, supervised by Yeun Fong Ling, explored the implications of Lee
Mingwei’s The Mending Project. This taught me to research and express my
thoughts in a clear and concise manner.
I am a hard working, reliable and conscientious worker who is goal orientated
and willing to learn. I work well with colleagues and by myself and add value
to the work that I participate in. Outside of work I was involved in a marching
band that won national titles, both as a participant and a leader. I am also
keen to develop my own art practice. In 2014 my work was selected to be
displayed as part of the John Ruskin Award in the Millennium Gallery,
Sheffield. My work uses the medium of needle and thread, going beyond the
expected uses of the medium.
