INTERESTS & ACHIEVEMENTS
I’m currently a student member for the MSc engineering committee, which represents the
aeronautical engineering course. This involves taking any questions or queries about the course
content and letting these problems known to course leaders in an official manner.
In secondary school I was part of a young engineers club where we frequently built and tested
small projects and competed nationally in 2 competitions, one involving building a remote
control boat to complete an obstacle course designed by the British navy, and another building
a go cart to race against other young engineer clubs.
I’m currently part of a MMA (mixed martial arts) society at university, where I am a head
committee member, I sort out memberships, the funding and general organization of the
society as well as helping with the teaching of the sessions.
I was part of an Irish sport called Hurling in London. We became all England champions and
competed in many competitions in Ireland.
I have completed both bronze and silver Duke of Edinburgh awards where I taught judo for the
volunteering, leant guitar for skills and did another martial art for physical.
2. WORK EXPERIENCE
Ember lounge, bar staff September 2015 – present
During my current studies at postgraduate level I have started working at the student bar, where I
serve customers on a daily basis, sever food, make sure everything is clean, take stock, make sure the
customers are always satisfied as well as helping out in the kitchen to prepare food.
Ashvales civil engineering May 2015 - September 2015
During this time I was employed as a civil engineer which involved the use of heavy machinery, having
to read drawings and accurately use a laser to make sure the right levels were being used for the
structure as well as doing manual labour throughout the job.
JJ Kelly and sons, May 2014 - September 2014
During the summer holidays I worked for a local construction company, mainly doing general
construction jobs such as keeping the site clean, taking measurements and laying out plans for the
construction, mixing and moving of materials and using heavy machinery whilst on the job.
Sales Assistant JJB-Sports: Aug2011-Aug2012
My main roles whilst working at JJB’s was working in a team helping customers with any problems they had with
either finding what they were looking for or helping with returns, as well as restocking the shelves during shifts or
after. In addition to these tasks I also cleaned the store after opening times. My reason for leaving this job was
the company went bankrupt and I was made redundant.
Volunteering- Dec 2010
During the Christmas season my secondary school organises a Christmas party for a primary school
that specialises in the teaching of disabled children, and that year I was on the organising committee
to help teachers run the event, this involved organising other students to dress up in fancy dress and
help look after the children, organising the food, activities and travel arrangements.
Volunteering – Sep2011-2012
As part of my Duke of Edinburgh award, I helped teach a children’s judo class, which involved looking
the safety of the children, but at the same time making sure that they got the technique right and
made some suggestions on how to make the sessions more fun and interesting.
