TINY HOMES
This design creates a Tiny Home Community to address the physical, mental and emotional needs of
Chicago’shomelessyouth.WiththeultimategoalofcreatinganetworkofTinyHomeCommunities,two
flexible prototypes can be adapted for implementation on various Chicago lots. Notable site features
include: a permeable pavement walkway; an urban orchard; a community center with programmed
outdoor space; a recreational and extensive green roof to facilitate storm water management. The
Single unit accommodates one individual and is Type-A Accessible. The Flex unit accommodates two
adults and one infant. All building materials were selected based on sustainable merit, and both units
utilize passive design. In addition, the mechanical and electrical systems were specifically designed
to reduce energy usage through the use of solar panels, trombe walls, and heat recovery ventilation.

FLOWCity studio addressed Chicago’s relationship to its systems of water, and tested the potential of
a landscape-based urban water infrastructure to renew this elemental resource in the life of the city.
FLOWCity focused on collaboratively designing interventions to holistically manage stormwater in
the Eighth Ward on the south side of Chicago. Through the activation of vacant lands, the capturing,
cleansing and reuse of stormwater, improvement of air quality and creation of new habitat for
wildlife, the studio sought to establish an urban water-centric landscape on the city’s south side. The
FLOWCity studio worked to develop a series of green infrastructure interventions to produce a newly
reinvigorated Eighth Ward. Of the 3,500 acre area of the Eighth ward, over 650 acres were identified
for landscape infrastructure, not including residential property.
WATER RECLAMATION
NOMINATED FOR THE SCHIFF FELLOWSHIP
Stony Island Avenue is the main commercial boulevard of the Eighth Ward and boasts a diverse
collection of businesses, interspersed with an unfortunate amount of unused space. This project
transformed these impervious surfaces into absorbent retention areas as part of a larger urban
wetland ecosystem. Greywater collected along Stony Island was rerouted to large collection basins. A
water reclamation facility called The Living Machine, located at that intersection at 87th Street, began
the filtration process. Aquaculture ponds dotted the wetland stream, providing fresh fish for the city
as well as jobs. Finally, the purified water reached edible forest parks, located at the extremes of the
Wetland Park, where the clean water could be used for irrigation of urban agriculture efforts.

INDUSTRIAL ARCHITECTURE
At M+W Group, I have been consistently involved in efforts to visualize and realize a pair of large-
scale semiconductor manufacturing facilities, both located in the US. I use Revit to model architectural
efforts, linking in models from other disciplines to further coordination. I have become instrumental in
the BIM efforts of the projects. By learning the program and applying my knowledge to the project
deliverables I have become a valuable BIM expert, and spend much of my time working with the BIM
coordinators of the projects as well as training and assisting coworkers in the Revit workflows. I am
quite skilled at the program, which is a necessity, since the building models are large and unwieldy,
there is no room for flawed practices. In addition to 3D modeling, I have also been involved in
completing project deliverables, and in completing programming and design development exercises.

RETAIL ARCHITECTURE
This work is representative of my position as a program associate at RGLA. I was part of one team
which completed client construction documents, taking charge of the rollout of about 30 stores per
year. Along with completing the drawing sets, I also completed building permit applications and
project documentation for each project.

URBAN PLANNING
CodaMetrics is an urban planning consulting firm which works with developing cities across the
country.DuringmyinternshipIwasinvolvedincreatingandcurating3DSketchUpmodelswhichwere
then used in city studies and client presentations. The findings from the model exercises informed the
form-based zoning codes which CodaMetrics produces.
URBAN CANYON
In an imitation of the characteristic texture of the desert, this project is an occupiable wall. The user
may move through, look through, climb and touch the wall. The wall is constructed using recycled
building materials, including concrete, bricks, CMUs, various stones and rammed earth. The variety
of materials will create a textured space that reflects the varied nature of the desert, but it will also
be an unadulterated representation of the city. A bridge made of railroad tracks as well a as a stone
bridge span the canyon. A cave at the northern end of the canyon provides a performance space for
the community. The performance area is covered by a canopy made from recycled car windshields.
PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY
What is monumentality? How can that be achieved in an urban setting to realize one of
the most anticipated “monument” projects of the coming decade? The parti of this project
was a knot, representing a twisted, intersecting circulation. I pursued this complex form in
an attempt to maximize the flow of people into and through the project at all times. The
knot exercise allows patrons to explore programs independently or in sequence, to occupy
places of overlap where multiple programs can be seen or experienced at once. The
project is a concrete construction, consisting of twisting plates at the top and the bottom,
and supported by angled concrete columns which line the perimeter and the center of the
knot. The terra cotta skin of the project is perforated by a pattern of circular windows. The
roof is dotted with a similar pattern of circular planters.

  • 12. RETAIL ARCHITECTURE This work is representative of my position as a program associate at RGLA. I was part of one team which completed client construction documents, taking charge of the rollout of about 30 stores per year. Along with completing the drawing sets, I also completed building permit applications and project documentation for each project.

  • 14. URBAN CANYON In an imitation of the characteristic texture of the desert, this project is an occupiable wall. The user may move through, look through, climb and touch the wall. The wall is constructed using recycled building materials, including concrete, bricks, CMUs, various stones and rammed earth. The variety of materials will create a textured space that reflects the varied nature of the desert, but it will also be an unadulterated representation of the city. A bridge made of railroad tracks as well a as a stone bridge span the canyon. A cave at the northern end of the canyon provides a performance space for the community. The performance area is covered by a canopy made from recycled car windshields.

  • 16. PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY What is monumentality? How can that be achieved in an urban setting to realize one of the most anticipated “monument” projects of the coming decade? The parti of this project was a knot, representing a twisted, intersecting circulation. I pursued this complex form in an attempt to maximize the flow of people into and through the project at all times. The knot exercise allows patrons to explore programs independently or in sequence, to occupy places of overlap where multiple programs can be seen or experienced at once. The project is a concrete construction, consisting of twisting plates at the top and the bottom, and supported by angled concrete columns which line the perimeter and the center of the knot. The terra cotta skin of the project is perforated by a pattern of circular windows. The roof is dotted with a similar pattern of circular planters.
