MEMORANDUM FOR: Hiring Official
SUBJECT: Letter of Recommendation for Jeffrey August
Dear Sir or Ma'am:
I have been asked by Jeffrey August to submit a letter of recommendation on his
behalf.
I know Jeff in two capacities; one as a former medical specialist at University of
Minnesota Hospital , and the other as a Medical Operations Specialist in the Minnesota Air
National Guard. I directly commanded MSgt August as part of the Chemical, Biological,
Radiological, Nuclear Enhanced Response Force Package (CERFP) for the State of Minnesota
domestic operations.
I am currently the Assistant Adjutant General for the Minnesota N ationa l Guard,
having completed twelve years as Commander of the 133 Medical Group in the Air National
Guard. I am also a surgeon at the University of Minnesota and on the staff at the
Minneapolis Veterans Medical Center. At the University of Minnesota, he arrived at work on
time, helped logistical coordination of supplies that facilitated excellent medical care of our
patients. For the Air National Guard, he assisted the logistical support of the medical
CEFRP mission. He was directly responsible for the initial and re-supply of the supplies and
equipment utilized during both exercises and if necessary, an actual event. This is a
tremendous responsibility that would not be entrusted to anyone who did not possess the
skill-set, personal responsibility, dedication, and trust-worthiness he has shown.
MSgt August assisted in the transformation of the MN CERF team to “Outstanding”
and “Mission-Ready” as graded by the United States Inspector General. MSgt August
accomplished this achievement through a thorough knowledge of military regulations and
team efforts to assist the team in becoming compliant through inspections and exercises.
Many of MSgt August’s team efforts have become best in practice in the Air Force.
MSgt August functions very well at both task-directed a nd s e lf- d i r e c t e d
duties. He is extremely comfortable with radiation safety as his job was directly related to
the military regulations surrounding their use. He is developing leadership qualities that
include planning, resource-allocation, and future cost savings. I have relied on MSgt August
for those skills. He has produced several radiation procedural manuals currently used today.
