2. Green design
We need to do our daily activities example: working, travelling, cooking, use
electricity,energy….
But at the same time we need to minimise negative effects of our daily lie on
the environment.
Strategies to reduce negative effects on the environment is the 3Rs
3. 3 R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Reduce: While going to buy bread, I buy one plastic bag everyday. Instead of
buying one plastic bag everyday, I can use the same plastic bag for several days.
Another example would be to make use of bags made from cloth, these bags can
be used several times.
Other reduce strategies are reducing waste of energy, if someone is not in a room
the light should be switched off.
Reuse: Instead of throwing away an empty plastic bottle, I could use the plastic
bottle for carrying water to work.
Recycle: Many metals, paper, plastics can be recycled. For metals recycling uses
less energy compared to the energy required for extracting the metal.
4. Recycling
Benefits of recycling
Recycling reduces the amount of wastes send to landfills, incinerators.
Conserves natural resources such as timber, water, minerals.
Saves energy.
Many materials such as paper, metal, glass can be recycled into new materials or
products.
6. Eco materials
Eco materials are examples of materials which do not cause harm to the
environment.
Examples of eco materials are Pandamus leaves, eco cement, bamboo stem and
fibre, palm leaves and sheaves.

8. Mauritius power generation
The bulk of our energy sources comes from heavy fuel oil and coal.
