2. SCIENTIFIC CONCEPT
When
plants
have
more water in their leaves
than they need, they get rid of
this extra water through a
process called transpiration.
During
transpiration,
water evaporates from holes
in the surfaces of leaves into
the air. As water molecules
evaporate from plant leaves,
they
attract
the
water
molecules still in the plant,
helping to pull water up
through the stems from the
roots.
The combination of
transpiration and capillary
action delivers the water from
the bottom to the top of a
plant.

blue
after
White carnation stalk was placed in the
blue solution. After a few minutes, the
petals change from white to blue colour.
Question:Why does the white carnation turned blue
after soaking in the blue solution?
How the white flower can turned blue?

PROCEDURE
The apparatus is set up as shown in the
diagram.
The humidity and temperature sensors are
connected to the data logger, which is in turn is
plugged into the PC.
The humidity sensor and the temperature
sensor are placed on the branch of the plant.
Plant A is given a table lamp of 60W while plant
B is given a table lamp of 100W.
The data logger is set to record at one sample
per minute, with a maximum of 1000 samples
(i.e. 16 minutes worth of data).
The spread sheet is set to show both
temperature and humidity. The graph is set to
show temperature and humidity.
9. EMPOWER
Discussions
Describe the change of temperature in the
two settings of experiment.
From the graph, which setting has higher
temperature increase?
Which setting has higher rate of
transpiration?
Why did you say so?
10. ENHANCE
Monday, June 24, 2013
KUALA LUMPUR: Not much can be done to find a long-term solution to the
haze problem as Indonesia refuses to bring up the matter to the ASEAN
Secretariat. This issue is become big problem to our country due to the
reduction of crop production especially in oil palm that become a major
source of economies in Malaysia for a long time ago.
From this situation, what happen to the plant and why this situation may
cause crop production to decrease?
11. UNIQUENESS
UNIQUE FEATURES OF THE
ACTIVITY
Temperature sensors are very
sensitive. Different temperature
can be easily detected and
measured.
Accurate readings can be taken
with no difficulties.
The graph can be plotted easily
and save time
Repetition of activity can be carried
out easily due to the quick
completion for different types of
surfaces used in the experiment.
