Proficient in SolidWorks (3D Modelling, FEA, PhotoWorks), Metalex software, Cura 3D printing
software, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Internet and email.
Basic knowledge of Matlab, C++, Flow Analysis software and AutoCad.
Strong attention to detail in design, technical drawings, analysis, and able to troubleshoot problems and
find cost effective solutions to reduce downtime (so far experience limited to sheet metal fabrication).
Designed products from concept to production to turn a profit in a manufacturing company.
Native language is English, advanced knowledge of Afrikaans.
Organizational skills; project, human resources, time and information management.
Experience liaising with co-workers, consultants, customers and government departments.
Ability to work efficiently and calmly under pressure.
Strong team and work ethic, punctual and will always complete tasks in a timely manner.
Have worked on and programmed CNC machinery such as CNC punching machine, CNC / NC shear and
CNC press brake.
Have worked with various hand tools and larger machines such as a drill press, surface grinder, fly press,
band saw and lathe.
Experience in 3D printing software and machinery, primarily working with PLA, PVA or ABS.
Have full G license.
EDUCATION
BACHELORS IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING SCIENCES University Of Johannesburg
Assessed by World Education Services as Canadian Equivalent.
ADDITIONAL STUDIES INTO BASIC ELECTRONICS
WORK EXPERIENCE
TORO ALUMINUM NOVEMBER 2015 - CURRENTLY
MACHINE OPERATOR
Work on NC shear machine.
Complete batch jobs assigned by the supervisor.
Keep track of material used (inventory).
Analyse each part to determine best cut in order to save material.
Attention to detail required due to in-line quality checks to pick up problems with paint or defects on the
material being cut.
W GARDNER & SON (PTY) LTD May 2014 – September 2015
DESIGN ENGINEER
Design products for manufacture that were competitive in price and performance with products currently
on the marketplace.
Design products around cheaper painted galvanised sheet to reduce gross cost (avoid powder coating
costs).
Design products according to safety standards and regulations so as to prevent any possibility of a
customer hurting themselves, outside of misuse.
Re-iteration of designs to work with available machinery and tooling, in particular with the CNC punch.
2. Design unique products as special requests from customers, communicated with customers as to the
different specifications they would like.
Nest as many products in a sheet as possible to maximise steelusage and minimise scrap often using the
‘reposition’ function on the CNC punch to make use of ‘dead zone’ material.
Prototyping (after manufacturing hours) of new products and programming of all the CNC machinery for
every product.
Assembled and tested (after manufacturing hours) each new prototype to determine problems before
proceeding to batch production.
Introduced the factory staff to new products and guided them during initial assembly and testing.
Calibration of machinery and design of tooling to make calibration simpler and quicker. This entails
manual adjustment of backstops, software adjustment of backstop positioning, ram stroke adjustment
(TDC, BDC), particularly for reground punches, and automatic as well as manual crowning.
For longer products more susceptible to bending moments, stress analyses would be performed to
determine that displacement of material under the effects of gravity would not impact aesthetics.
UNIVERSITY OF JOHANNESBURG July 2012-November 2012
TUTOR for a course, ‘Introduction to Engineering Principles and Practice.’
Ensured the students understood core concepts in engineering.
Responsible for semester project guidance and assessment.
Marking of tutorial tests and re-issuing of papers.
