Our pouch was made from HDPE, which is known for its strength, opacity, ability to withstand high temperatures, and is food safe. The pouch design was a typical Doy style that stands up on its own when filled, is easy and cheap to produce using a vertical form fill seal machine, and has a notch for easy opening. The final dimensions of the pouch were 4-1/4" x 5" x 2".
1. Flexible Packaging Final Project
Pouch Materials: The material we used for our pouch was HDPE. Our reasoning
behind this is that HDPE is known for its large strength to
density ratio; it also is harder and more opaque and can
withstand relatively high temperatures. It is food safe and an
antioxidant. It has good impact and wear resistant while being
flexible. It also has a very high elongation before breaking.
Pouch Design: The design of our pouch was that of a typical Doy style pouch.
This style pouch was chosen because it is capable of standing up
on its own when filled with the product. Also, it is very easy and
cheap to produce and it is filled on a vertical Form Fill Seal
(VFFS) Machine. Opening the pouch is made easy by the
addition of a small notch on the side, just rip and pull. Our
pouch is wider than it is tall to allow the consumer to easily
reach the provided spoon inside in order to get to the product.
The final dimensions of our pouch were 4-1/4” x 5” x 2” (W x H
x D).
