Course Synopsis
This course introduces students of mechanical engineering to the
fundamentals of vibrations for one-degree-of-freedom (DOF) systems,
two-DOF systems, and multi-DOF systems in engineering field. This
includes solving for free and forced, undamped and damped vibrations,
and the important concepts that come with these, e.g. resonance,
damping ratio, natural frequency, mode shape, transfer function, etc.
Expected
outcomes
After following this course, students shall be able to:
(1) Explain the concepts of vibration in undamped and damped systems
(2) Analyze free or forced vibration problems in mechanical engineering
(3) Apply analytical methods in vibration problems
(4) Determine relationship between theory and practice in vibration
problem
