- #4 Background information, statistics, types of sessions since it began in 1999. Electronic Village Online started as TESOL Special Project of the CALL Interest Section in 1999. It was founded in 2000 by Christine- Bauer Ramazani, Tom Robb and Susan Gaer.
- #7 Abstract:’ We live in an era of individual “personalization and customization”. The read and write web has helped develop a new concept - “do it yourself and your own way”. The phenomenon has had implications in our society at different levels - from the way people learn to the new, emerging jobs and employment needs. The worksop aims at providing awareness of the way the web can empower the individual not only to learn, but also to present what, how and with whom he/she learns.’ I first experienced the wonder and adventure of EVO in 2009, when I started on my e-learning journey. One of the moderators was Dr Nellie Deutsch, to whom I owe a lot!

- #9 Abstract: ‘In this six-week online workshop, participants will be introduced to various online image manipulation tools and will learn how to effectively incorporate these resources into their teaching practices. They will explore how images can be used in educational settings for photo sharing, storytelling, slideshows and comics creation, as well as understand how Creative Commons licensing can be beneficial for classroom use. By the end of the workshop, participants will have the chance to develop a plan to begin incorporating digital production into their lesson plans.’ This dynamic and exciting session introduced many useful tools to use to enhance my lessons. Inspired me to create presentations and upload them to Slideshare. Tools such as Bighugelabs, Animoto, Flickr were used in a powerful way and they are still to this day amongst my favourite tools to use, as they do an excellent job. The application of Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy was introduced and opportunities were provided to apply this in a creative way. Digital storytelling with images was explored in depth. This is when I began experimenting with using my own images for projects. Ning, Flickr, Diigo and wiki were used as platforms for discussion and to share our work.

- #12 This is where I learned more about storytelling techniques to use with my learners. The benefits of what I learned in this session are still felt by me to this day. Helped create an interest in this area. - #15 Abstract:’This workshop aims at providing basic proficiency related to the production and publishing of digital media files (podcasts) and its implementation in the language classroom to enhance communication in speaking and listening skills.’
- #16 This session was revolutionary for me as it got me interested in the use of podcasts. It was expertly moderated and a lot of practical advice was imparted. It was a ‘hands on’ experience and I created my own podcasting blog to showcase all the projects we undertook in the 5 weeks. We learned about Podbean, Podomatic, AudioBoom, Vocaroo, Skype Recorder and other voice recording tools. It was the first time I came across Audacity, and I have been using it ever since.
- #17 This is where I first stepped in by chance to moderate on an EVO session, by kind invitation of the moderating team, led by Shelly Terrell. It was another enriching experience and I loved developing and learning about ways to tell stories creatively. Abstract: ‘How do we encourage young learners to use the English they learn in a meaningful context? Children can have access to various online creation and publication tools to share stories. Participants will explore various applications that motivate learners to share stories through comic creation tools, free Web 2.0 tools, mobile devices, and more.’ My Fun with Comics presentation was used as a discussion prompt – I was thrilled about this and delighted! As a result of this EVO session, it has been viewed over 30,000 times and downloaded over 100 times on Slideshare.net.

- #25 Each of the above excellent EVO sessions have affected my life in a powerful way. They have helped me to become a more confident user of tools and also made me more aware of how these topics can be exploited in the classroom. I have been encouraged to create presentations as a result of these courses, and have presented talks for webinars and e-conferences, including this talk today! This ethos of sharing came about as a direct result of my EVO experience... My Scoop.it curation site hosts a lot of links and resources on comics, again my keen interest in using comics and cartoons in my teaching contexts extends back to EVO sessions attended in the past....
