Spinifex Caravans is a caravan company located in Deception Bay, Queensland, Australia. Several studies have shown that travelling makes people more open-minded and creative. One study divided participants into two groups and asked them to list modes of transportation. The group told the task was from Greek researchers listed more options by thinking beyond local transportation like trains and buses to include things like triremes and spaceships. Another study found that people who lived abroad showed more creativity in tasks due to being more comfortable with ambiguity from experiencing different cultural norms in places like China and Australia.

2. Travelling regardless of the destination is essential to effective thinking, several studies
reveal. Many people who like to travel consider the activity as mind broadening, but now
new evidence proves how exploring the world can make you smarter as well as more
open minded and creative.
Travelling Opens the Mind
An experiment conducted at Indiana University (IU) led by Lile Jia divided a few dozen
respondents into two groups, and asked them to identify as many modes of
transportation as possible. Researchers told one group that IU students in Greece
developed the activity. They informed the other group, meanwhile, that IU students
studying in Indiana formulated the task.
Jia discovered a significant difference between the groups as those who thought the
researchers imported the task from Greece came up with more modes of transportation.
The respondents also shied away from buses and trains: they explored the possibilities
and listed triremes, horses, bicycles and even Segway scooters and spaceships.
3. Indeed, there is something about distance that makes it intellectually liberating. The
subjects didn’t feel constrained by their local transportation options — they thought
about exploring the globe and even deep space.
The study suggests that familiarity shackles people’s thoughts. They sometimes trade
creativity for efficiency and tend to take things literally instead of making their
imaginations work. A bit of distance, however, may help release the chains of cognition.
More Reasons to Travel: Improved Creativity
Going to a distant place is not the only perk of travel. William Maddux, PhD and Adam
Galinsky, PhD from INSEAD in France and the Kellogg School of Management in
Chicago, respectively, conducted a series of studies to test the idea that there is a
connection between creativity and living abroad. For instance, in China, locals consider
it polite to burp following a meal to show that you enjoyed yourself. In Australia,
however, burping is rude; but if it is utterly unavoidable, you must pardon yourself.
