What’s new in 2015?
From 1 May this year, the Irish government is introducing
Lifetime Community Rating, a regulation to encourage
peopletotakeoutprivatehealthinsurancebeforetheyreach
the age of 35. This regulation will penalise those who leave
it until the age of 35 to become insured for the first time by
charging a penalty of 2% on premium per year of age over
34. This measure is a fairer system and will mean that those
who contribute to the community rated fund over their
lifetime will benefit through cheaper insurance and that
those who join later in life will pay a loading for doing so. It
will be good for the future affordability of private healthcare
as it will attract more young people into the market and
help keep health insurance affordable. For its part, Vhi
Healthcare is doing its bit to encourage maximum take up of
health insurance by introducing new entry-level plans which
are among the most competitively priced in the market.
