IMPLEMENTATION ON FPGA USING
XBEE TRANSCEIVER

 Generally, in data transmission we can use many devices
like blue tooth, xbee and wireless USB devices.
 This Project describes a design of effective security for
data communication by designing standard algorithm for
encryption and decryption.
INTRODUCTION
WHAT XBEE?
• Xbee is a new wireless technology
• Technological Standard Created for Control and Sensor
Networks
• Uses protocol-> IEEE 802.15.4 Standard
• Created by the Xbee Alliance
• Philips,Motorola,Intel,HP are all members of the alliance.
Why Xbee is needed?
• Xbee makes possible completely networked homes where all devices are
able to communicate and be controlled by a single unit.
• It provides network, security and application support services operating on
the top of IEEE
• Operates in Personal Area Networks (PAN’s) and device-to-device
networks
• Connectivity between small packet devices
XBee features:-
 Low power consumption
 Simple protocol, global implementation
 Network Flexibility
 Hundreds of devices per Network
XBee General Characteristics
• Data rates of 20 kbps and up to 250 kbps
• Support for Low Latency Devices
• Provides Handshaking signals
• 3 Frequencies bands with 27 channels
• Extremely low duty-cycle (<0.1%)
• Operating Voltage – 2.1 – 3.6V dc
• Distance-30m indoor &100m outdoor
• Small size
• Long battery life

X-CTU Software
• X-CTU is a graphical windows based serial utitlity provided by digi to
program and configure the firmware on it’s rf products including the
XBEE and XBEE rf modules and the digi XBEE usb.
• X-CTU is designed to function with all windows based computers .
• Additional information on other aspects of X-CTU is available in digi’s
online X-CTU configuration and test utility software users guide

CONCLUSION
• This thesis presents the design and implementation of XBee transceiver for IEEE
802.15.4. It has been aimed to achieve a complete XBeee transceiver for short
range wireless communication keeping in mind for military application.
• Each standard supporting short range wireless communication has different
specifications and different applications. These days mobile communication has
achieved wide applicability, but for application of short range communication in
isolated area mobile communication is very difficult to implement.
• XBee transceiver provides a resilient technology to communicate in shorter range.
