7. My Learning and My Experience
Namaste, Khurumjari,
I Jagrati Mehra belong to the Mandsaur district of the heart
state of Madhya Pradesh and will take you on the journey to
the state of Jewels Manipur.
Day 1: We flew away
At the entrance of IIT Indore, every person from guard to faculties was waiting for the
Yuva Sangam Candidates. We got many goodies including a pen, diary, bag, T-Shirt, and
Id card at IIT Indore. Then the director of IIT Indore Prof. Suhas S Joshi flagged off the
continent. We started our journey with slogans of Bharat Mata ki jai Vande Mataram Ek
Bharat Shresth Bharat and many more from IIT Indore. After refreshment, we reached
Devi Ahilya Airport, and again, we started shouting out slogans. Even on the Flight we
never stopped. No person slept well this night we were exhausted so much. But the night
view from the flight and the watching sunrise from the thousand feet above was incredible
and gave my eyes a soothing effect.
8. My Learning: I belong to Gandhi Sagar which is the last town of Madhya Pradesh after
Rajasthan starts. So as IIT Indore EBSB Club collected students from different districts I
met all of them and learned about my state.
Day 2: So overwhelmed
when we reached Grand welcome with band and fulmala from NIT Manipur at Imphal
airport recharged us. We danced thagol and garba all together even faculties were not
untouched by this enjoyment. The band music was itself giving me a chill.
After reaching the hotel I realized that we are residing at the hotel because the campus of
NIT Manipur is not as good as IIT Indore. Their Hospitality makes my heart so
overwhelmed.
9. Manipuri people are facing some difficulties sometimes they are underprivileged. I have
visited many NIT campuses such as NIT Bhopal, and NIT Jaipur which were very well
developed but the infrastructure of NIT Manipur needs some development. It needs funds.
But I wish I could stay in the NIT Manipur Hostel so that I would know what kind of
problems they are facing.
After Freshen up, we had our brunch. Most of the people from Madhya Pradesh are
vegetarians so arranging vegetarian food for 5 days is challenging for them which they
handled very well.
We were welcomed at the NIT Manipuri campus all female faculties were wearing a
Manipuri saree. They all were looking elegant. Again, we got goodies including a pen,
diary, and Manipuri bag but the Manipuri shoal was my favorite I wore that shoal
throughout the visit to Manipur.
10. After we started our visit with the worship of God. Yes, we visited the most famous Shri
Govindajee Temple.
My Learning: Being Simple is the Most Complex Thing. I saw that their people prefer
white simple clothes to worship the god. Because they know all people are equal in front
of God. Showing off will not pay you anything.
11. Assam Riffles is a paramilitary force deployed in Manipur to
maintain law and order in the region. With a history dating back
to the British era, Assam Rifles continues to play a vital role in
safeguarding the people and territory of Manipur. Two soldiers
were with us throughout the visit for security.
Polo Temple is a historic temple dedicated to the game of polo. It is believed to be the
only temple in the world dedicated to the sport and is an important pilgrimage site for polo
enthusiasts. The polo horse is worshipped and honored through various rituals and
ceremonies in Manipur.
We can see the selflessness in this temple. If a man is winning here then the whole credit
is given to the horse. Putting someone first before yourself is great for learning from them.
Day 3: Rich Culture and Heritage
A live polo match is a thrilling experience that combines athleticism, strategy, and
teamwork. The thundering sound of galloping horses and the clatter of mallets hitting
the ball create an electric atmosphere. Watching skilled players maneuver their horses
and outmaneuver their opponents is truly a sight to behold.
12. After the match, every delegate from Madhya Pradesh enjoyed a horse safari.
Stepping inside Fort Kangla in Imphal, Manipur, I feel privileged and thankful to be
standing in a place that has been the center of political and cultural activity in the region
for centuries. The fort's grand architecture and intricate designs are a testament to
Manipur's rich cultural heritage. As I explore the fort's various structures and learn about
their historical significance, I am reminded of the fort's important role in shaping the
history of the state.
13. Moving on to the Kangla Museum, located inside the fort, I am struck by the diverse and
rich collection of Manipuri art and artifacts on display. The museum's exhibits, which
include ancient weapons, jewelry, traditional clothing, and textiles, offer a glimpse into
the state's cultural identity. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn about the history and
culture of Manipur through the museum's carefully curated displays. Together, the Kangla
Fort and Museum provide a fascinating window into the vibrant heritage of Manipur, and
I feel privileged to have the chance to experience it firsthand.
Nehru Dance Academy in Imphal, Manipur is renowned for promoting and preserving
the state's traditional dance forms. Watching a live performance of Manipuri cultural
dance at the academy is a delightful experience that leaves one feeling enriched and
inspired.
14. RKCS Art Gallery is a must-visit for anyone interested in exploring the state's vibrant art
scene. The gallery showcases a diverse range of contemporary and traditional Manipuri
art, including paintings, sculptures, and installations. Visiting RKCS Art Gallery is a
wonderful way to appreciate and support the local arts community in Manipur. One
important aspect of preserving the artwork on display at RKCS Art Gallery in Imphal,
Manipur is the proper care of brushes and paints used by the artists. Used brushes are
carefully cleaned and stored to prevent damage, while paints are kept in controlled
environments to maintain their consistency and color. Preserving these tools not only
ensures the longevity of the artwork but also demonstrates the gallery's commitment to the
responsible stewardship of cultural artifacts.
During our trip to Manipur, we had the incredible opportunity to visit Kangla Nongponk
Torban, a historic site that holds deep cultural and religious significance for the people of
Manipur. As we walked through the gates of the site, I was struck by the sense of history
and reverence that surrounded us.
We learned that Kangla Nongponk Torban was once the seat of the Manipuri kings and
served as the center of the region's political, religious, and cultural life. It was fascinating
to see the many structures and artifacts that have been preserved over the centuries,
including the sacred Kangla Sha, a symbolic representation of the kingdom's power.
15. Day 4: Sar kata Sakte lekin Sar Jhuka Skte Nahi
Imphal Peace Museum offers a poignant reminder of the region's tumultuous history
and the devastating impact of war. The museum's exhibits, which include photographs,
artifacts, and personal accounts, provide a vivid insight into the experiences of ordinary
people during some of the darkest moments of the 20th century. Visiting the Imphal
Peace Museum is a humbling and thought-provoking experience that is sure to leave
visitors feeling thrilled by the resilience and fortitude of the human spirit.
16. Sangai Ethnic Park, located in Imphal, Manipur, is a celebration of the state's diverse
cultural heritage. The park's colorful and vibrant displays showcase the unique traditions
and customs of Manipur's many ethnic communities. A visit to Sangai Ethnic Park is a
wonderful way to experience the rich and diverse cultural tapestry of Manipur.
Keibul Lamjao National Park in Manipur is the only floating national park in the world
and is home to the endangered Manipuri brow-antlered deer, also known as the Sangai.
Watching these rare and majestic creatures in their natural habitat from a telescope is a
once-in-a-lifetime experience that leaves visitors in awe. Exploring the lush and verdant
17. landscape of Keibul Lamjao National Park is a unique and unforgettable adventure that
is sure to inspire and delight nature lovers.
Loktak Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Northeast India, is a breathtakingly beautiful
natural wonder located in Manipur. Exploring the lake by boat and touching its tranquil
waters is a calming and peaceful experience that allows visitors to connect with nature on
a profound level. The serene ambiance of Loktak Lake is the perfect antidote to the stresses
of modern life, making it a popular destination for those seeking relaxation and
rejuvenation amidst the pristine beauty of Manipur.
18. Loktak Lake is a crucial resource for the local communities, with around 100,000 people
depending on it for their livelihoods. Fishing, agriculture, and tourism-related activities
are among the main sources of income. Many families have lived on the lake for
generations, preserving their cultural traditions and unique way of life in the floating huts,
locally known as phumdis. The conservation and sustainable management of Loktak Lake
are vital to preserving the well-being of these communities and their traditional way of life.
Challenges
Loktak Lake in Manipur is facing several significant challenges that threaten its delicate
ecosystem. One major issue is the proliferation of invasive plant species, particularly the
water hyacinth, which has spread rapidly and choked the lake's waterways. The use of
illegal fishing methods, such as the use of dynamite and electric shocks, also poses a
serious threat to the lake's fish population. Additionally, human encroachment and
pollution from agricultural and industrial runoff are causing the deterioration of water
quality and the destruction of wetlands, which are crucial habitats for many species of
birds and aquatic life.
19. Visiting the INA War Museum and INA Headquarters in Moirang, Manipur, is a
powerful and emotional experience that provides a glimpse into the country's rich history
of struggle and sacrifice for independence. The museum showcases the legacy of the Indian
National Army and its contribution to India's freedom struggle.
20. The INA Headquarters, located nearby, is a historic site where Netaji Subhash Chandra
Bose once hoisted the Indian national flag, marking the beginning of India's struggle for
freedom. The museum and headquarters offer a unique opportunity to learn about India's
independence movement and the sacrifices made by its brave soldiers and leaders. It is a
must-visit destination for history buffs and anyone interested in learning more about
India's rich cultural heritage.
Manipuri Film Development Corporation Ltd. (MFDC) is a state-run organization that
has been instrumental in the development and promotion of the film industry in Manipur.
The organization has also played a crucial role in preserving the state's film heritage, with
21. a focus on restoring old and damaged films using advanced chemical processes. The
MFDC has showcased how reels are made, stored, and restored, offering valuable insights
into the technical aspects of film production and preservation.
We watched “Eikhoigi Yum”. It is a celebrated Manipuri movie that explores the themes
of love, loss, and the human experience in a changing world. The film is a poignant story
of a family's struggle to hold onto their land and home in the face of encroaching
urbanization and displacement. The movie's powerful message and compelling narrative
have earned it many accolades and made it a favorite among audiences and critics alike.
" Eikhoigi Yum " has been widely screened in many film festivals and events, both in
Manipur and outside the state. The film's beautifully crafted visual imagery, combined
with its moving storyline and excellent performances, has touched the hearts of many and
made it an unforgettable cinematic experience. " Eikhoigi Yum " is a powerful statement
on the need to preserve our environment and cultural heritage and is a must-watch for
anyone interested in the rich cinematic tradition of Manipur.
Day 5: Glad to meet you too
The Andro Temple is a holy site in Manipur that is famous for its unique fireplace, which
has been burning continuously for centuries. The fire is considered sacred and is tended to
by the whole village, with each family taking turns to maintain it.
Visiting the Andro Temple is a spiritual and awe-inspiring experience, as you witness the
devotion and care that the locals have for this sacred place. The temple and its eternal
flame serve as a reminder of the rich cultural heritage of Manipur and the importance of
preserving it for generations to come.
22. Brewery village in Manipur has a rich cultural and historical significance, as they are
known for their traditional brewing practices that date back centuries. These villages have
unique techniques for brewing rice beer, which is an integral part of their cultural and
social life.
The brewing process is usually carried out by women in the village, who are considered
experts in the art of brewing. The beer is brewed in large earthen pots and is served during
social gatherings and festivals. The brewery villages are not only known for their brewing
practices but also for their scenic beauty, which attracts tourists from all over the world.
During my visit to the Kakching library, I had the opportunity to interact with the MLA
who demonstrated an impressive knowledge of various topics related to Manipur. He
confidently answered three questions posed by girls about tourism, entrepreneurship, and
education in the state. His positive comments on women's empowerment were also
commendable, showing his support for gender equality. Overall, it was a memorable and
informative experience.
Lunch With The MLA
During lunch, I had the pleasure of trying some of the local delicacies of Manipur, which
were delicious. The MLA was kind enough to introduce me to some of the most popular
dishes in the region. One of the dishes that stood out for me was the bamboo shoot, which
23. had a unique taste and texture. I also enjoyed the black rice dessert, which was both sweet
and nutty.
The meal was a great opportunity to learn more about the local food culture in Manipur
and the MLA was happy to share some of his insights. It was interesting to hear about
how some of the dishes have been passed down through generations and how they are an
important part of the region's heritage.
Overall, it was a delightful experience to share a meal with the MLA and learn more about
the local food of Manipur. The bamboo shoot and black rice dessert were the highlights
for me and I hope to have the opportunity to try them again in the future.
Visiting Raj Bhavan and meeting the governor Mrs. Anusuya Uikey was a great
experience for me. During the meeting, Governor Anusuya Ji shared her insights on
women's empowerment, and her dedication to this cause was evident in her leadership.
She motivated me and others to work toward gender equality and encouraged us to be a
part of this movement.
Moreover, her emphasis on Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat was also very important. By
promoting cultural exchanges and mutual understanding between different regions of
India, she was helping to strengthen the unity and harmony of the nation. Her
24. commitment to women empowerment and Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat is truly
commendable, and I am inspired to work towards these causes in my way.
Visiting the Manipur State Assembly at night was an unforgettable experience. The grand
building was bathed in a golden light, casting a magical glow all around. Its imposing
façade and intricate architectural details were awe-inspiring. As I stood there, taking in the
beauty of the Assembly, I felt a sense of pride and privilege to be witnessing this
magnificent structure in all its glory.
25. Day 6: The Last and Unforgettable Night
Visiting the State Ethnological Museum in Manipur was a fascinating experience. The
museum's collection of scriptures and other artifacts from various tribes and communities
of Manipur was impressive. I was particularly drawn to the way they were stored, which
reflected the museum's commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of the region.
I was also impressed by our guide's knowledge and enthusiasm for the exhibits. Despite
having a phobia of snakes, she gave us a detailed tour of the snake exhibit, which was
informative and engaging. Her dedication to her job was inspiring, and it added to the
overall quality of my museum experience.
26. The Olympic Park in Manipur is a unique attraction that showcases wax-made dummies
of great sportspersons. Although it's not the real thing, taking pictures with these life-like
figures was a happy and proud moment for me.
27. As I walked around the park, I couldn't help but feel a sense of admiration for the athletes
who had achieved so much. It also made me reflect on the potential of Manipuris, who
possesses an incredible amount of energy and efficiency to do something big.
I realized that while only a few get the chance to be recognized on a global stage, countless
others have the same potential, waiting for the opportunity to showcase their skills. The
Olympic Park serves as a reminder of the greatness that lies within all of us, waiting to be
unleashed.
Having lunch in the traditional way of sitting on the floor and eating off a banana leaf
was a unique and enjoyable experience. The food was served in multiple small dishes,
28. each containing a different item. I felt overwhelmed by the variety of dishes that were
presented before me.
With excitement, I tasted each one of them, savoring the distinct flavors and spices used
in their preparation. The meal included local delicacies such as bamboo shoot curry,
Begun Bhaja, and kangsoi (a mixed vegetable stew). The texture and taste of the food were
unlike anything I had ever experienced before.
29. As I finished my meal, I realized that not only did the traditional way of serving the food
add to the experience, but it also gave me a deeper understanding and appreciation of the
local culture and cuisine.
30. Visiting the Ima market was a memorable experience for me. I spent an hour there,
exploring the various shops and admiring the handicrafts on display. I ended up
purchasing two bamboo baskets and a beautiful Manipuri dupatta.
31. As I wandered through the market, I couldn't help but notice the exquisite fanneques,
which are traditional Manipuri garments worn by women. Although they were quite
expensive, I wished I could afford to buy one.
While shopping for the dupatta, I came across a charming old woman who was the
shopkeeper. She shared with me that she was a retired teacher and had graduated with an
honors degree in political science. I felt touched by her story and was glad to support her
by purchasing from her shop.
Overall, my visit to the Ima market was an eye-opening experience that gave me a deeper
appreciation for the rich culture and traditions of Manipur.
32. Attending the cultural night at the NIT Manipuri Campus was an incredible experience
for me. It was an evening filled with music, dance, and laughter. My group and I
performed a folk dance from Madhya Pradesh called Bhagoriya, which was very well
received by the audience.
33. After all the performances, there was live Thabal music, which is a traditional dance form
of Manipur. As someone who loves to dance, I couldn't resist joining in and learning some
of the steps from the Manipuri boys.
The Thabal music was simply mesmerizing, and I found myself dancing for two hours
straight, without any footwear and without worrying about my heavy lehenga. The music
had a soothing effect on me, while at the same time giving me the energy to keep on
dancing.
Overall, it was a night to remember, and I felt grateful for the opportunity to immerse
myself in the local culture and traditions of Manipur
Day 7: Manipur will stay in my heart forever ever ever
On my last day in Manipur, we headed straight to the Imphal airport to catch our flight
back home. It was a bittersweet moment, as I had thoroughly enjoyed my time in Manipur
and was sad to leave.
As we were getting ready to board our flight, the NIT registrar sir came to say goodbye,
along with all the volunteers who had made our stay in Manipur so enjoyable. They
34. presented us with a thoughtful memento – a bag of expensive black rice and Shaol, which
are popular local delicacies.
I felt touched by their gesture and grateful for the warmth and hospitality that they had
shown us throughout our trip. As I boarded my flight, I couldn't help but feel a sense of
longing to return to this beautiful place, which had captured my heart with its rich culture,
stunning landscapes, and friendly people.
35. Last but not the least
I can't even begin to describe how incredible our trip from IIT Indore to Manipur was.
Every moment was filled with joy, learning, and connection. From the warm hospitality
of the people, we met to the simplicity and beauty of the culture, to the chance to interact
with the governor, it was an experience that left a lasting impact on me.
One of the most special parts of the trip was the opportunity to meet people from different
districts in my home state. It was amazing to connect with others who shared my cultural
36. heritage but had different perspectives and experiences. I learned so much from them and
felt a deep sense of connection to my roots.
Another unforgettable part of the trip was the chance to learn about the history and culture
of Manipur. Watching a live polo match and visiting the RKCS Art Gallery, Loktak Lake
was experiencing left me in awe of the beauty and richness of the region.
And of course, I will never forget the joy and camaraderie of learning Rudra's
choreography on the bus and trying out the Thabal dance moves in Manipur. These were
moments of pure fun and connection that brought us all closer together.
Overall, the trip was a truly life-changing experience that touched my heart and soul. I am
so grateful for the chance to have participated in the Yuva Sangam campaign and to have
met such incredible people along the way. I believe that every student should have the
37. opportunity to experience something like this and be touched by the beauty and richness
of different cultures.
