Genre – Horror
A horror film is meant to scare, startle or shock the audience because
of having its exploration of the unknown. The story and characters
are as important as the mood and atmosphere because horror
movies have suspense which builds up the atmosphere so that the
audience will be scared by the film.
For my project I will make a short horror film inspired by some of the
best notable horror films listed below.
Codes and conventionsof horror films
Some codes and conventions of horror films is that there are jump
scares, low key lighting and haunted houses. Horror films also
feature common fears such as nightmares, vulnerability, death and
fear of the unknown. These codes and convention will be related to
the characters persona or background.
Mood board of horror films
Notable horror films
 Saw
 Chucky
 Jigsaw
 Annabelle: Creation
 The Haunting
 Sisters
 The Final Destination
 Blair Witch
Synopsis
Late at night two women were lost in the forest, no clue to where
they were, surrounded by the old worn trees. They were walking in
circles and didn’t know it, chatting about a rumour about a creature
that lives in the forest. A sound echoed around them but they didn’t
hear anything. Small red eyes appeared behind the women.
Late in the summer evening, a couple were lost in the forest, no clue
to where they were, surrounded by the old worn trees. They were
walking in circles and didn’t know it, chatting about a rumour about
a creature that lives in the forest. A sound echoed around them but
they didn’t hear anything. Small red eyes appeared behind the
group.
This is my improved work for my synopsis. I have changed the
number of actors that I will use because I think that more people will
be better because it will make the dialogue easier. Additionally, I
have also changed the time of when I will film.

Legal and ethical considerations
What issues I may face How I will overcome these problems
Copywriteact I will overcome this problem by making my
shortfilm original and that I havemade sure
that I have not copied any other film.
Health and safety at work act I will make surethat my cast and crew will be
safeat all times when filming the shortfilm and
that they now whatrole they play.
The Equality act I will make surethat when I am filming my short
film that no one is discriminated against or
treated withoutrespect.
The Defamation act I will make surethat everyonehas equal rights
and that no one is treated any different to
other people and that they are free to say what
the want.
Risk assessment
Hazard Level of risk
1 being low
5 being high
Who will be harmed by
this risk
How this risk will be
prevented
The surfaceof the
ground is uneven.
3 The cast and crew I will prevent this
problem by making the
cast and crew awareof
the uneven ground.
The ground may be
wet and slippery if it
rains
3 The cast and crew If it does rain I will
make the cast and
crew wear suitable
shoes
Branches may fall from
the trees
2 The cast and crew I will make surethat
the castand crew are
awareof the
surroundings
The wind may cause
small trees to fall down
2 The cast and crew I will make surethat
the castand crew are
awareof the
surroundings
If it is raining heavily it
will be cold and wet to
film the shortfilm
1 The cast and crew I will not film on that
day and I will wait until
there is a nicer day
Because I am filming at
night in the dark it may
be bad lighting
3 The cast and crew I will make surethat I
have got lights so that
the castand crew can
see the paths

  • 5. Genre – Horror A horror film is meant to scare, startle or shock the audience because of having its exploration of the unknown. The story and characters are as important as the mood and atmosphere because horror movies have suspense which builds up the atmosphere so that the audience will be scared by the film. For my project I will make a short horror film inspired by some of the best notable horror films listed below. Codes and conventionsof horror films Some codes and conventions of horror films is that there are jump scares, low key lighting and haunted houses. Horror films also feature common fears such as nightmares, vulnerability, death and fear of the unknown. These codes and convention will be related to the characters persona or background.
  • 6. Mood board of horror films
  • 7. Notable horror films  Saw  Chucky  Jigsaw  Annabelle: Creation  The Haunting  Sisters  The Final Destination  Blair Witch Synopsis Late at night two women were lost in the forest, no clue to where they were, surrounded by the old worn trees. They were walking in circles and didn’t know it, chatting about a rumour about a creature that lives in the forest. A sound echoed around them but they didn’t hear anything. Small red eyes appeared behind the women. Late in the summer evening, a couple were lost in the forest, no clue to where they were, surrounded by the old worn trees. They were walking in circles and didn’t know it, chatting about a rumour about a creature that lives in the forest. A sound echoed around them but they didn’t hear anything. Small red eyes appeared behind the group. This is my improved work for my synopsis. I have changed the number of actors that I will use because I think that more people will be better because it will make the dialogue easier. Additionally, I have also changed the time of when I will film.
