4. INTRODUCTION TO LEADERSHIP
Leadership is the ability to develop a vision that
motivates others to move with a passion towards
the accomplishment of a common goal.
It can also be said to be a process by which a
person influences others to accomplish an objective
and directs the organization in a way that makes it
more organized.
5. You must have an honest
understanding of who you
are, what you know and
what you can do.
Tobe successful you have to
convince your followers not
your superiors, that you are
worthy of being followed.
You must know your
people.
The fundamental
starting point is having
a good understanding of
human nature, such as
needs, emotions and
motivation.
The nonverbal communication
is leading. E.g.- when you set
example that communicates to
your people that you would
not ask them to perform
anything that you would not
be willing to do!
We must use our judgment to
decide the best course of action
and the leadership style needed
for each situation.
7. 1. AUTHORITARIAN LEADERSHIP
2. PARTICIPATIVE LEADERSHIP
Also called The Autocratic
leadership
power is centralized in one
person. It’s also called
“bossing people around”
Also called The Democratic
leadership.
The leader includes one
or more employees in the
decision making process.
8. 3. DELEGATIVE LEADERSHIP
Also called The rein leadership.
The free-rein leader gives power to subordinates to
make the decisions. The leader is still responsible
for the decisions that are made.
THE TRICK BEHIND BEING THE BEST LEADER, IS COMBINING ALL
THE STYLES OF LEADERSHIP AS WELL AS USING THE POWER
WISELY!

9. MANAGERS VS
LEADERS
The main difference between leaders and managers is that:
LEADERS have people who follow them while MANAGERS have people
who work for them.
A successful business owner needs to be both a strong leader and
manager to get their team on board and to follow them towards their
vision of success!
Though the concept of viewing managers and leader as separate roles is
challenging, we can compare them in the following ways:
16. We shall discuss the 5
major sources:
1. Legitimate
2. Coercive
3. Reward
4. Knowledge
5. Referent
SOURCES OF POWER
17. CONTI...
Is the ability of a manager to
force an employee to follow
an order by threatening the
employee with punishment if
the employee does not
comply with the order.Expert power is another way to earn respect and
influence independently of the hierarchy of your
organization.
With expert power, you have the ability to influence
others because of your talent, abilities, and
knowledge.
Power that is given to a
person based on their
position or role is known
as legitimate power (or
positional power).
Reward power is simply
the power of a manager to
give some type of reward to
an employee as a means to
influence the employee to act.
18. CONTI…
Even if you don’t have any granted power
in an organization, you can still influence
others’ behavior and decision-making.
Referent power is the ability to influence others because they respect, admire, or like you.
There are many ways to earn referent power at work. Especially if you are new to an organization, you
can:
Start building social capital right away by saying “yes” when people ask you to do things.
Never say, “No, that’s not my job” – especially to your boss.
Find the influential people in your organization, be part of the “in” crowd, and others will respect you.
The more power you have, the more carefully it needs to
be exercised.
