BODY
23. Body Paragraph 1:
In the Secretary’s message, he
highlighted the role of the campus press in
initiating change in the society. His strong
regard for the young was evident when he
chose to first meet the participants in a mini-
presscon which they, themselves, facilitated.
Emphasizing the great challenge entrusted to
them, the Secretary urged them to do small
things that have a life- long impact to the
society, for making a change isn’t dependent
on age, but on the will to be part of the critical
mass of young leaders who are open to listen
and are rooted in the communities they are
serving.
EVIDENCE
24. Body Paragraph 2:
Serving the Department of Education for years, the
Secretary definitely understands the young
generation are endowed with both a bit of
innocence and inquisitive spirit. He was even
impressed with their questions which were driven from
their hunger for answers to many issues that float in the
mind of the common public. When he was asked about
his own legacy as the Department of Education
Secretary, the veteran public servant admittedly said
he can’t grasp an answer to the question which he
found the most difficult to answer and took him some
time to think about. Humble enough, the Secretary’s
inability to answer the question is a reflection that there
are more to do…that there are more to change. And
in this pursuit of change will take generations to
keep it going.
EVIDENCE
25. Body Paragraph 3:
With the challenge at hand, he
urged the young writers to look not
only for their own stories but also the
story of others. These are real stories
of human beings that the journalist
should write and the pictures that
should be taken. More so, he
emphasized that young journalists
should tell the older generation
how to change the Philippines and
the world to be better.
EVIDENCE
26. Body Paragraph 4:
Recently, the Department of Education has
received a lot of critics for maneuvering a
massive bureaucracy through its
implementation of the K-12 Education
Program with the aim of starting up radical
changes and reforms in our educational
system. In the midst of the promising result of
the new program, the Secretary has been
projecting a dynamic and a doughty stand on
its implementation. He then stressed that it
can only make its headway through the
young generation, most importantly the
campus press that are always leaders and
are imbued with so much potential.

is obscene, it is inhuman, it
is un-Filipino, to want to kill
three million of our own

This man speaks for and with
the authority of the President, who, as it
happens, has himself been needlessly
and repeatedly entangled in controversy
due to loose lips. Pres. Duterte is
famously averse to anything American,
and even more so to unsolicited advice
on his demeanor, but perhaps he and
his team can ponder on one of Clinton’s
statements in the debate: “Words matter
when you run for president, and they
really matter when you are president.” Present

The Secretary will be leaving his
seat soon as the Aquino
Administration ends, and obviously,
the country is facing another
chapter of either failed promises or
promising changes. But one thing
is certain; whoever takes the
