2. OVERVIEW
• As I mentioned in my first evaluation question, the action film audience enjoy being
immersed in exciting scenes involving tension and danger.
• Our film jumps straight into an action packed scene involving gunfights and an
escape sequence.
• Throughout the entirety of the opening sequence action remains consistent and all
aspects are fast paced and exciting.
• For these reasons I believe we have reached the expectations of our target audience.
3. APPEALING TO OUR AUDIENCE
• On our first night of filming we filmed a very lacklustre scene that involved running
and dialogue without any real imminent danger, this scene was deleted as it failed
to meet the conventions of the genre and would not appeal to the target audience.
Instead it was replaced with the current opening scene.
4. AUDIENCE ADDRESS
• The inclusion of more action packed scenes resulted in higher audience interest and
overall more enjoyment of the film as it posed an imminent sense of danger and
anxiety which created suspense. Below are some quotes from our post-production
questionnaire.
• “The film included constant action scenes which were exciting.”
• “It had a good balance of action and speech so you understood the plot and felt
entertained simultaneously.”
5. SUCCESSFUL ASPECTS OF OUR FILM
• The main parts of our film people commented on being successful were:
• Narrative – “The narrative was non-linear and more complex and our audience
enjoyed piecing the plot together to enhance meaning.”
• Continuity – “Continuity was maintained throughout all of our production, there was
very minute moments where camera positioning could cause confusion but they
were subtle.”
• Editing – “The edits between clips were smooth and transitioned well.”
• Comments on micro-elements were derived from audience feedback and
paraphrased.
6. LESS SUCCESSFUL ASPECTS OF OUR
FILM
• Audiences found the realism of the film a big contributor to aspects of failure in our
production. Many parts were unrealistic according to our audience and this made
the production feel of a, “lower quality”, and “less engaging”.
• Some aspects also felt comedic in a, “cheesy way”, which some viewers found
irritating.
• Examples are during the drug deal; the price of the drugs and the ‘head explosion’.
7. IMPROVEMENTS
• If we were to create the film again we would put more focus on eliciting emotional
responses from the audience towards the characters and build a more dramatic,
tense environment.
• We would also opt for physically tangible methods of creating visual effects rather
then relying on editing software.
