How our media products develop and challenge forms and conventions
of real media products
The film industries test screening
The film industry carry out numerous test screenings, costing as well as
time consuming to ensure that their film is going to be successful when
officially screened. The organization of the film gain constructive
criticism by allowing a variety of audiences to preview a screening
which is followed up by receiving feedback through market research,
helping them identify what they can improve or adjust to the film in
order for it to be more successful.
Target audience
• Our Target Audience:
• Our target audience are teenagers-young adults, as we discovered
this is the age range who find thriller plots most interesting, they
enjoy the feeling of suspense and mystery which is involved in this
genre of film. Thriller films are also often certificated 15 due to the
content of the films being either violent or frightening. Most thriller
appeal to 15-21 year olds.
Feedback
• Initial feedback:
• We received feedback from our class members after showing a screening of our teaser trailer,
poster and magazine cover in class. As this wasn't the final screening, the class had the
opportunity to write down any comments or suggestions on how we could improve or adjust our
work. As we reflected over these comments it appeared the most mentioned aspect to out teaser
trailer was the soundtrack which many claimed didn't represent our genre well enough. To the
viewers it replicated more action-like connotations and didn't build enough tension or suspense
which is a big aspect in thrillers. This was our main focus to rectify as the soundtrack has a huge
influence in the visuals and over all finish. We found this feedback extremely useful and greatly
improved our trailer once making these adjustments.
Finalized feedback
• Final feedback:
• We eventually had a final screening to the class of our finished trailer,
poster an magazine cover. The feedback we received after making the
changes to the first screening improved massively and really made a
positive impact on our trailer. The viewers expressed our genre was
now easily recognisable and immediately identifiable with the help of
our now improved soundtrack, which now enhances the mood we
wanted to create which would project onto the viewer.
