- 2. 2 1858 1945 1962 1988 1992 2009 James Howorth & Co Ltd is formed to manufacture apparatus for humidifying, ventilating, heating, air- conveying, dust control and drying applications within the textile industry. Hugh Howorth and Professor Sir John Charnley collaborate to develop the world’s first ultra clean ventilation system for operating rooms. Charnley sees infections rates in his hospital plummet. Hugh Howorth takes over the running of the family firm after his father is killed in the war. He develops and patents pneumatic equipment for the textile industry as well as an HVAC system to protect textiles and artwork in museums Howorth is bought from the Howorth family. The company continues to sell the Exflow and other medical products, including cleanrooms and aseptic suites Timeline of Key Events Howorth Air Technology - History Sir John Charnley Hugh Howorth Howorth begins to supply downflow containment booths to the pharmaceutical industry. Later it expands its range to include glovebox isolators and a wide variety of other containment products Howorth is acquired by a team consisting of existing Howorth board members and the managing director of Westbury Filtermation, leading UK filtration group.
