OVERVIEW
The Whitfield Clinic in Waterford is a product of the HKR Keppie designed the state of the art facility for

The Wyndale Clinic

OVERVIEW
The Wyndale Clinic is a private hospital development
in Letterkenny. The proposed 3 storey development
will be approximately 12,000m2 and will comprise 70
in-patient beds and 20 day beds. The facilities which
will be available at the hospital will include Radiation &
Medical Oncology; Renal Dialysis; 4 Surgical Theatres;
Physiotherapy; Primary Care; Urgent Care;
10 Consultants’ Suites; Diagnostic Department with
X-Ray, CT Sim, MRI and PET scan; plus a Pharmacy
and a Laboratory.



Smithfield Diagnostic Centre

LOCATION : Smithfield, Dublin 7, Ireland

OVERVIEW
HKR designed this community-based clinic at Smithfield Prior to design, the whole treatment process was
Market in Dublin 7. The Centre was designed and built carefully analysed, and the interior is designed to create
on a fast-track construction programme, completed in a satisfactory patient experience through use of suitable
April 2006. It is one of the first of its type in Ireland, space, colours, materials and lighting. Specific design

The centre offers medical diagnostic imaging services
which include CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Bone Densitiometry
(DEXA) and General X-Ray. It also provides Health
Screening services in partnership with GPs, corporates
and the general public.



Smithfield Minor Injuries Unit

OVERVIEW
HKR Architects designed this compact 5,000 sq ft
Minor Casualty Clinic which is run by Charter Medical.
The clinic, which is discreetly placed on the first floor
Block G in Smithfield, has major x-ray and scanning
facilities on site and is staffed by consultants from the
major Dublin A&E departments.



Smithfield Stepdown Unit

PROGRAMME : Planning submitted 2007
CLIENT : Redquartz Ltd to be operated by the Health Service Executive (HSE)
TYPE : Healthcare

OVERVIEW
HKR designed this 33,000 sq ft Step-Down Medical
Unit in Smithfield Dublin 7. The Unit is housed over 2
floors. The reception and rehabilitation services are
located at ground level, which also includes an oratory.
On the first floor there are 60 beds plus kitchens, dining
rooms and day rooms for the patients.



Trim Daycare Centre

LOCATION : Trim, Co Meath, Ireland

OVERVIEW
The proposed development of the 2.75 acre site
at Longwood Road in Trim comprises a Surgical
Daycare Centre and a crèche surrounded by extensive
landscaping.
The single storey Daycare Centre is 1,400m2 and has
designated parking for over 60 cars, in addition to an
ample service yard. The crèche is a two storey building
of 1,750m2, and has its own allocation of 10 car park
spaces.



Kerry Private Hospital

LOCATION : Tralee, Co. Kerry, Ireland

OVERVIEW
A 46195m2 medical centre campus including a
15,500m2 private hospital and 7 further blocks with
possible uses including nursing home, step-down unit,
rehabilitation clinic for alcohol or drug related illnesses,
mental health, residential age related illnesses, medical
records and archives.

The private hospital includes diagnostics,
ophthalmology, ambulatory surgery, operating theatres,
CSSD, consultants suites, pathology and in-patient
wards, radiating off a central hospital street.



New Medical Centre, Blanchardstown

LOCATION : Blanchardstown, Dublin 15, Ireland
PROGRAMME : Design Proposal submitted 2009
CLIENT : McNamara Construction

OVERVIEW
HKR designed this 200,000 sq ft Medical centre in a
Dublin Suburb Blanchardstown. It’s adjacent to the
existing Connolly Hospital.

The facility is housed over 5 floors. The six operating
theaters are located at first floor level, which also
includes recovery beds and day surgery suites.

There are over 140 in-patient rooms with ancillary
support, laboratories, consultants’ suites on second,
third and fourth floors.

The ground floor accommodates Physiotherapy, Urgent
care, Ophthalmology, Pharmacy, kitchens and dining
area all arranged around landscaped courtyards to
create holistic experience for visitors and patients alike.



Co-Located Private Hospital, Tallaght

LOCATION : Tallaght Hospital Site, Dublin, Ireland
CLIENT : Synchrony Healthcare

OVERVIEW
This is a joint venture with Capita Symonds and involves
the co-location of new hospital building on the Tallaght
Hospital site.

This facility is designed over 6 floors above ground and 2
basement levels and includes radiotherapy, ambulatory
day surgery, state of the art theatres, diagnostic imaging,
cardiac angiography etc. and 2 floors of single room
wards.



Thornton Hall Healthcare

LOCATION : Ashbourne, Co. Meath, Ireland

OVERVIEW
This 1.5 million sq ft new prison facility on a 150 acre This facility is designed by HKR as part of the new prison
site in north west Dublin is being developed under a PPP in Ireland. This building would be equipped to provide
procedure on behalf of the Irish Prison Service. the primary healthcare to the inmates both males and
females to treat them for minor ailments. The separate
The new prison will accommodate 1,400 offenders in 9 recreation yards are provided for a total of 40 inmates
separate residential facilities, with expansion capacity to which could be housed here at one time. This facility is
2,200. categorised as Medium-high security.

Encompassing centralised support services, including
visiting, healthcare, sports, catering and administration
facilities, this new prison will provide accommodation
for adult male and female, plus juvenile, remand and
immigration populations in all security categories.



The Marley Nursing Home

OVERVIEW
HKR were appointed for the detail design and
implantation of The Marlay Nursing Home. The facility
is designed over 3 floors with the reception and main
services located on ground level. The individual
bedrooms are located around a courtyard and the home
itself is surrounded by extensive landscaped grounds.

Bwaila Hospital Malawi

OVERVIEW
Along with many other companies globally,
HKR Architects is providing its services to
The Rose Project, a registered charity which provides
medical, nursing and pyscho-social treatment and care
to people living with or affected by HIV or AIDS in
Africa.

HKR together with Bruce Shaw Partnership and DSA
Architects Malawi are involved in designing and
delivering a new maternity unit for Bwaila Hospital in
central Lilongwe. The hospital will serve over 12,000
births a year.

Arva Nursing Home

LOCATION : Arva Nursing Home, Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin
SIZE : 1.6 acre site

OVERVIEW
Arva Nursing Home is a 144 room nursing home on a
sloping site zoned residential. The sloping nature of this
1.6 acre site enabled the design team to propose a 2
storey facility over an undercroft basement.

The basement will house the kitchen, store laundry and
service areas along with some of the bedrooms looking
out onto a sunken garden.

The ground floor will contain the dining communal room
and more bedrooms, along with the reception area.
Remaining bedrooms will be located on the first floor.
