2. INTRODUCTION TO THE “GROWTH MINDSET”
Learning how to embrace the learning process
Looking at the positive outcomes
A way to gain knowledge
A new outlook
Setbacks should not always be looked at as negative
In college, it can be easy to become overtaken by stress and shy away from a “growth mindset”
When getting a bad exam on a project, try to learn from it and see how you can improve
3. WHAT’S YOUR ONE WORD?
ACTIVITY

allows them to remember what is really important
• Then, give them time to create an image out of their
word/phrase
4. DISCUSSION ON THE POWER OF YOUR WORDS
Importance on the idea that words a lot
Positivity in words is SO important
Sharing negativity in words does not benefit you or anyone else
Positivity in what you say--- can lead to positivity in your life
EX- The more you talk about how badly you want a job and have a positive outlook on it, the more likely you are to get
the job
6. Take time for students to go
around the room and share
their word/phrase visuals
7. JOURNAL
Give students time to reflect on everything just talked
about. Encourage them to write about a time when they
had a negative reaction to a setback or failure. Then, have
them try to go back and think about how they could have
reacted in a more positive way and see the failure as a
learning outcome.
