It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the Bellarine Peninsula for the 21st
edition of the Queenscliff Music Festival. The Victorian Government is proud
to once again support this wonderful event, which has come to be one of
Australia’s best cultural celebrations. Each year, Queenscliff Music Festival
showcases a diverse range of high-proﬁle international and Australian
performers, as well as emerging artists, and kicks off a fantastic summer
program across the state. Regional Victoria has something for everyone
and the best of everything. It’s why the Victorian Government is proud to
support the Queenscliff Music Festival as part of our work to grow the visitor
economy across the state, and particularly in our regions. Our $20 million
Regional Events Fund has helped build a stronger calendar of regional
events for Victoria, boosting local economies with year-round visitation.

On behalf of the Borough of Queenscliffe it gives me immense pleasure
to welcome you to the 2017 Queenscliff Music Festival. This incredible
musical event has grown to become an annual highlight of the region’s
events calendar. What an incredible line up! Now in its 21st year, the festival
returns once again to Princess Park overlooking picturesque Port Phillip Bay
and festival-goers have the option of low-cost camping accommodation,
enabling a bigger and more diverse audience to enjoy the festival.We
are thrilled to play host to such an iconic festival and hope you enjoy
the fantastic mix of great music and the welcoming seaside atmosphere.
Queenscliff’s grand buildings and stunning coastal environment provide the
perfect backdrop to this three-day celebration of contemporary Australian
and world music.I encourage you to take time out from the musical
feast to taste the many other delights of the region including our great
beaches, boutiques, galleries, cafes, hotels and harbour. I also encourage
you to return over the summer to further enjoy the region’s attractions
and hospitality. Congratulations to the organisers and volunteers of the
Queenscliff Music Festival for a spectacular program in 2017. The festival

Melbourne has a lot to answer for – admire the city’s music scene from afar and
surrender to the allure of its versatility and sense of adventure. Fronted by Allysha Joy,
30/70 are the latest collective to emerge from this buzzing nucleus.
Lovingly referred to as a community rather than a band, 30/70 is a quintet of musical
splendour made up of Joy, Ziggy Ruckman, Henry Hicks, Thomas Mansﬁeld and Jarrod
Chase that swells up to an 11-piece ensemble when desired.
The sound of 30/70 is a cosmic melange of boom-bap dynamics, neo-soul harmonies
and jazz-funk licks, all steeped in a deep spiritual tradition reaching from Alice Coltrane
to Kamasi Washington.
Their forthcoming record, Elevate, enlists production from Hiatus Kaiyote’s Paul Bender,
resulting in something of an eloquent statement. At once a cry for help and a call to
arms, the LP balances delicate poetry and potent aggression with ease.
Their second studio album since 2015’s Cold Radish Coma, is set to elevate them onto
the international stage. Under Wondercore Island’s management (Hiatus Kaiyote, Oscar
Key Sung, Daniel Merriweather) and with the help of Bradley Zero’s label, Rhythm Section
International, 30/70 are ready to take their message from Northcote to the world.
Allysha Joy brings exactly what her name suggests, through her gift of song and
looseness of play, with honesty radiating from within. Her music is an exploration of
jazz, soul and hip hop. Representing a fresh new sound coming only from Melbourne
and expressing her heartfelt songs of change and love through the female gaze.
Known for fronting Melbourne hip-hop and soul collective 30/70, Allysha Joy felt the
need to further challenge her expression in a project of her own. Pushing boundaries
as a keys player, poet, singer and producer with the support of her 30/70 brothers
and sisters. Whether performing solo on Fender Rhodes or accompanied by her
band, featuring members of the 30/70 rhythm section, Allysha’s steady groove, husky
vocal tone and unique style of writing emanates truth and talent. Allysha Joy has
performed alongside acts such as Sampa The Great, Man Made Mountain, MKO and
Simon Mavin of Hiatus Kaiyote. She also performed as a feature artist at the 20th
anniversary of Stones Throw Records and at both the Stonnington Jazz Festival and
the Melbourne International Jazz Festival.

Andie will steal your heart, boggle your
mind and untie your shoelaces. Heavily
inﬂuenced by jazz, soul and 80s prog-
rock, she uses complex chords, time
signatures and syncopation to lull her
audience before yanking them right back
out with her abrasively honest lyrics.
At the ripe old age of 20, Andie has taken
her tunes to Woodford Folk, The National
Folk Festival and The Blue Mountains

Local singer/songwriter, Andrea Robertson, has an innate ability to fuse soulful-
blues, folk and country with a dash of rockabilly; cleverly and tastefully bringing
together the old and the new, and creating a delicious treat for music lovers
along the way.
Her songs range from the stomping, toe-tapping variety through to blues-
influenced ballads with an appealing, slightly vintage vibe, and are a reflection
of what life brings along in both the ordinary and extraordinary.
Andrea’s much-anticipated second album, masterfully mixed by local sound
engineer, Nick Huggins (A Pocket Full Of Stones Studio), is due for release this
November. Recipient of a 2017 QMF Emerging Artist Grant.
Founded in Melbourne in 2000 by bandleader, producer and
main songwriter Lance Ferguson, eight-piece powerhouse
The Bamboos have continually redefined Australian soul
music and continue their reputation as harbingers of
musical evolution.
With five ARIA Awards under their belt, the outfit has
long been regarded as one of Australia’s best live bands,
regardless of genre. In 2012, they collaborated with Tim
Rogers to create the timeless hit, I Got Burned, which
reached #54 on the triple j Hottest 100. In 2015, Rogers
and The Bamboos returned with follow-up LP, The Rules Of
Attraction, marking their 15th year as a performing band.
Over the years, the outfit has proved more than one-
dimensional – collaborations with vocalists like Aloe Blacc,
Megan Washington and Daniel Merriweather proof of their
versatility. Increasingly multi-talented, lead vocalist Kylie
Auldist has also worked with funk collective Cookin’ On
3 Burners, spurring standout 2009 track, This Girl, in the
process. After lauded French producer Kungs applied his
electronic decorations in 2016, This Girl immersed radio
airwaves across the world.
Amid a glut of revivalists, The Bamboos have carved out
a signature sound that embraces classic and current
influences whilst weaving them into something brand new
altogether.

‘Raw, spooky, rootsy, punky, reggae, dubby’ – these are some of
the ways the music of The Beautiful Girls has been described.
And in 2017 & 2018, they’re taking it all the way back to the
sonic beginnings to celebrate anniversaries of their two
seminal releases Morning Sun and Learn Yourself.
Periscopes, Music, Blackbird and LaMar, amazing performances
all over the planet, the voice of Mat McHugh, heart-on-the-
sleeve songs, pioneering Australia’s surf-roots-reggae sounds;
these are things fans worldwide think of when they think of The
Beautiful Girls.
Now Mat has decided to strip back the performances to their
original essence – the striking three-piece sound which first
brought the band to attention fifteen years ago.

where the band built a base early in its career. Now, after over 5
years absence, the trio returns to reconnect with fans.

Amidst a new wave of avant-garde Australian troubadours
singing for the hardships and stuff-ups of the 21st Century, Bec
Goring fills audiences with her sweet vocals backed by a never-
ending bag of blues infused riffery. An electrifying guitarist and
singer/songwriter whose music blurs the boundaries between
blues and soul, hailed ‘an incredibly accomplished guitarist’
by internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Mia Dyson. It’s
not at all surprising that audiences are craving more after her
stellar single Weekend.

Country songstress Beccy Cole has delighted Australian listeners and concert-goers for
more than twenty years. The Adelaide-born star’s glowing warmth, honeyed voice and
bawdy sense of humour have helped make Cole one of the nation’s best-loved and most
celebrated artists. Friendly and approachable, Cole’s enjoyed an array of industry success
– nine Golden Guitars, multiple ARIA top 10 country albums and more than a dozen #1
Australian country singles just the start.
Her most recent LP, 2015’s Sweet Rebecca follows hot on the heels of Cole’s phenomenal
2014 collaboration with Melinda Schneider, Great Women of Country. From its opening bars,
the album rings with bittersweet reminiscence and introspection. Mandolin chimes, low-
down guitar thrums, while piano accordion breathes the soft haze of memory into the mix.
Throughout her career, Cole has toured with the likes of Slim Dusty, Willie Nelson, Kenny
Rogers and Glen Campbell. Yet one of the most important experiences of Cole’s career was
her watershed tour of military bases in Iraq and the Middle East in December 2005. After
receiving criticism for her stance on the war in Iraq following the tour, Cole penned arguably
her most successful song, triple Golden Guitar-winning Poster Girl.
B E R N A R D F A N N I N G
As an artist in continuous motion, Bernard Fanning has
accumulated one of the most celebrated and distinct
songbooks on the Australian rock spectrum. With his solo
career now spanning 10-plus years, Fanning has firmly
cemented his position as one of Australia’s finest songwriters
and lyricists. From the country folk-tinged charm of his multi-
platinum debut solo album Tea and Sympathy (#1 ARIA debut)
the rock grooves and horn breaks of its follow up Departures
(#1 ARIA debut) to his current and 3rd record, the exquisitely
crafted 2016 ARIA Award winning LP Civil Dusk.
Civil Dusk was recorded at the stunning La Cueva Studios, the
new custom built studio Fanning created in NSW’s Byron Bay
with long-time producer and friend Nick DiDia (Powderfinger,
Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine).
Recording with DiDia finished up over Easter 2016, and the
result is some of Fanning’s finest work: themes of decisions
and consequence are characterised by a sense of warmth,
space and the earthy feel of acoustic guitar, piano, strings
and violin.
Part one of a series of two albums, in May, Civil Dusk was
joined by follow-up LP Brutal Dawn. Rounding out the
storyline, the album displays a level of realism bordering on
cynicism. Morose in his ponderings, Fanning details narratives
of heartbreak, loss and regret throughout. Every song brings
something different to the table – Shed My Skin permeates
a contemporary violin melody with the songwriter’s classic
acoustic roots sound. As a contrast, Isn’t It A Pity serves
a full band sound and an upbeat rhythm juxtaposed by
disheartened lyrics – it’s a beautiful paradox. Sparkling with
talent, Brutal Dawn enlists help from Clare Bowditch, Midnight
Oil’s Rob Hurst and more.

From the wellspring of childish fantasy and a lifetime of musical evolution emerges the
Black Rabbit. This is the story-telling talent of Paul A George, the musician whose guitar
drives the unique sounds of Tijuana Cartel, one of the tightest and most sought-after
bands on the Australian festival circuit. If Tijuana Cartel ever lacked anything for its
guitarist and vocalist, then it was the open door to a subconscious demand to tell
stories – any stories – with the strings of a guitar and the words of a born storyteller.
Black Rabbit George is the culmination of a need that could not be resisted forever.
“Tijuana Cartel remains a core driving force in my life and I’d never want to leave
it behind,” says the Black Rabbit. “But at the same time I want to follow a path that
embraces the great loves in my life: my guitar and the wealth of stories that life simply
places in your way.” Indeed, the Black Rabbit’s first solo track, Muse, is a melodic and
emotional ode to his first great love: his guitar.

Bob Evans, the ARIA winning alter ego of Jebediah frontman Kevin Mitchell, has decorated
the Australian music scene with artless folk pop for more than two decades.
Mitchell is a self-confessed romantic who has written some of the country’s most beloved
songs. Under the alias of Bob Evans, Mitchell has released five albums, all of which
showcase the versatility and skill of this talented songsmith. Gentle, acoustic melodies
prevail, enveloping the classic folk storytelling and strong emotional pull that characterises
Mitchell’s substantial body of work.
Recorded in Sydney with acclaimed producer Tony Buchen (Montaigne), Bob Evans’ most
recent album Car Boot Sale is surprisingly simple yet ornate. The LP received a 2016
ARIA nomination for Best Adult Contemporary Album and solidified Mitchell’s perpetual
songwriting prowess. On top of that, Bob Evans has achieved awards for Best Male Artist in
Rolling Stone Australia’s 2007 annual reader poll and was a finalist for the Australian Music
Prize in the same year. The moniker’s second studio release, Suburban Songbook, garnered
a 2006 ARIA for Best Adult Contemporary Album.

Funny? in Edinburgh. She also won Adelaide Comedy's Rising
Starr Award for Best Newcomer and Bank SA's Best Emerging
Comedy Show at the Adelaide Fringe 2013, for the production of
Wolf Creek - The Musical.

Having just released new album Zinc in October, Darwin singer/
songwriter Caiti Baker is coming in hot for Queenscliff Music
Festival. Speaking of her most inspired release yet, Baker says,
“Zinc is an album that has ultimately taken my life, up until
now, to produce. It’s a collection of songs I’ve put together with
producers James Mangohig and Michael Hohnen with some
help from my blues musician father Greg Baker. The songs are
inspired by the crunch of sampled guitar riffs, bangin’ hip hop
production, menacing double bass, my love of singing and
arranging harmonies and it focuses on topics such as identity,
love, ego and the current geopolitical state of the world. I’m so
unbelievably proud of Zinc and cannot wait to tour it live”

There’s a reason, beyond their dazzling musicianship and wildly
entertaining live shows, that The East Pointers have connected
with audiences right across the globe, making new, original
roots music the hippest, most vibrant thing going.
The reason? the outfit, made up of fiddler/singer Tim Chaisson,
banjoist Koady Chaisson and guitarist Jake Charron, write about
real life, sketching out its joys and sorrows in vivid strokes.
That palpable authenticity makes their instrumental tunes
practically cartwheel and infuses their lyric-driven songs with
poignancy.
And it’s why listening to The East Pointers’ brilliant and hotly
anticipated second album What We Leave Behind – produced
by superstar East Coast-bred songwriter/producer Gordie
Sampson – is akin to meeting up with an old friend.

Freya Josephine Hollick, the old-timey country, blues and
honky tonk goodness that transports you back to early
Appalachia, through wartime romance, the golden era of
country music and into a cosmic hootenanny.
Hollick returned to music with a string of shows around
Australia through 2016, including supports for American acts
Willie Watson, Joshua Hedley and Joe Pug and appearing as a
guest singer with Robert Ellis and The Perfect Strangers and
shows at Out On The Weekend and Mountaingrass.
Through 2017 Hollick has released a new EP and appeared at
Nannup Music Festival, Boogie, Gumball and Broadbeach CMF
and as support for My Bubba (Iceland/ Sweden).

With gentle disposition and threadbare six-string, Didirri’s bittersweet melodies tumble
between the bookends of his own biography. Spinning tales of joy and sorrow, his presence
consumes listeners into the belly of contemplation, and washes the room with silence.
Hailing from Warrnambool, Didirri was born the son of a painter and a children’s performer.
Singing in church on Sundays established Didirri’s rhythmic bed and inspired him to
learn piano from an early age. Upon his arrival to Melbourne, he picked up the guitar and
founded an ambient-folk act as a platform for his narrative. Often underscored by double
bass, fiddle and electric guitar, collectively they are as effervescent as they are deftly
reserved. His unusual Northcote dwelling, spattered with curious relics, is an unassuming
shed behind his communal home – a sanctuary apart from the saturated humdrum of
modernity. His recording space – an assembly of guitars, keyboards, synthesizers and an
air traffic control microphone feed into a bulky eight-track tape recorder.
Drawing influences from the genius of Joni Mitchell, Glen Hansard, Jeff Buckley, Stephen
Fry and Tina Fey, he is reluctant to seek shelter beneath the arrangements of symmetrical
songwriting.

GABRIEL GARZÓN-MONTANO
(USA )
On his debut 2017 LP, Jardín, Gabriel Garzón Montano sings of
the struggles and uncertainties of today’s complex American
world, from the specific doubt and double consciousness of
first generation hustle, to the universal challenges of love
and legacy.
A child of Brooklyn, Garzón-Montano’s aesthetic is an
extension of his French-Colombian heritage, with fusions
of Bach sonatas, cumbia records, and machine gun funk
lathering his music. His mother, a member of the Philip
Glass ensemble in the ‘90s, instilled him with a painstaking
attention to detail.
Soon after the 2014 release of his debut EP, Bishouné:
Alma del Huila, Garzón-Montano was invited to join rock
legend Lenny Kravitz on the road. Immediately following the
whirlwind 23-date tour, he received news his song 6 8 would
be sampled on Drake’s track, Jungle. In 2016, he returned
to New York’s Waterfront Studios to record Jardín with his
mentor, Henry Hirsch.
Garzón-Montano tracked drums, bass, guitar, piano, and
synthesizers direct to 2” tape. A lush sonic environment
would manifest recalling a contemporary, streetwise Journey
Through the Secret Life of Plants. Bringing his eclectic pop to
Australia for the first time for Queenscliff Music Festival, you’ll
be battling the crowds to see Garzón-Montano up close.

GL are Melbourne duo Ella Thompson and Graeme Pogson, who
together create a thrilling contemporary spin on classic disco, funk,
boogie, soul and electronic pop. In 2017, they returned with Destiny,
the first half of their forthcoming double-A-sided single Destiny/
Reflect - the first 100% independent release for the duo.
Handpicked to support Chet Faker on his 2015 national
headline tour yet, with sets at the country’s most distinguished
festivals Splendour In The Grass, St Jerome’s Laneway Festival
and Meredith Music Festival, GL have won over crowds at
intimate and large-scale shows alike. At once ebullient,
melancholic, amorous, sweet, tempestuous, sexy, nocturnal,
heartbroken and carefree, GL’s songwriting never loses site of
being consistently inviting, stylish and danceable.

out on drums, he then had a handful

Regularly headlining around Australia, Harley has won over a legion of fans with his
accessible and relatable comedy. Consistently unpredictable, Breen’s sets seamlessly
move from side-splitting material about the foibles of being a new-age dad to
dodgy tales of his beloved old Kingswood; all without missing a beat. He projects
the immediately recognisable and relatable image of the unpretentious Aussie male.
Harley doesn’t just use his instant likeability as a platform to deliver solid, topical
material, he also gets beneath the nature of things to create a true bond with all
his audience and deliver an experience that will be talked about long after the gig

Australian edge may classify the band as ‘multi-genre’, however,
the constant joy they bring to audiences leave many suggesting
a new genre of ‘Happy’. Beware, as they make you the centre of
their performance… literally! The bands unique sound comes
from the absence of a single drum kit, bass guitar and electrified
instruments. Three drummers create synchronised grooves on
what would be a deconstructed drum kit. Anything could happen!
Known to cause a severe case of happy fever, this 11-piece brass

In 2012 Ivan migrated from Venezuela to Adelaide and took up the
challenge of performing comedy in a second language.
After only six months he’d collected his ﬁrst Australian comedy
award and was chosen to perform in Melbourne International
Comedy Festival’s Comedy Zone and Roadshow.
When he sold out his ﬁrst Melbourne season in 2014, the
UK’s pre-eminent comedy guide Chortle enthused 'Give this

Think back to a time in your life when you heard melodies so beautiful you were instantly
captivated. It’s an experience Irish/Canadian folk artist Irish Mythen brings to life.
No stranger to these shores, Mythen is a true entertainer known for her gripping live
performances. She’s a storyteller who will grasp your attention and bring you on an
incredible and emotional journey. The 2015 Canadian East Coast Music Association winner
was born and raised in Wexford County, Ireland but her success has whisked her around
the globe – through Europe, the UK, even the Middle East. Yet, home is now Canada’s Prince
Edward Island. Throughout her travels, Mythen’s worked with a host of world-renowned
artists like Tom Paxton, The Dubliners and The Pogues. On top of that, she’s shared stages
with Emmylou Harris, Gordon Lightfoot, and Peter Yarrow, to name a few.
Her discography bears two EPs – 2004’s Appreciate and Fallen Me as well as three full-
lengths – Sweet Necessity, 2011’s Open Here and her most recent self-titled album from
2014, which won her an Canadian East Coast Music Award in 2015.

The Imprints are an Australian live electronic music duo consisting of Willow Stahlut and
Linden Lester. Armed with a violin, synth and various FX pedals, Willow creates deep sub
bass lines and weaves a melodic tapestry beautifully complemented by Linden’s visceral
energetic approach to the drums. Playing together for six years, the duo has honed their
signature sound, a kaleidoscopic burst of psychotropic, dreamy dance music. Their use
of layering and build-ups to intensify the hefty bass drop has festival crowds buzzing.
They’ve toured extensively performing at festivals including Glastonbury, Boomtown ,
Fusion Festival, ArtsWells, Katuaq, Falls Festival and Luminate. The Imprints released

band and beat. It’s great to hear variation in instruments and
layering is still strong today.” Izzy Losi is the keyboard-playing
front-woman and singer-songwriter of The Auracles - consisting

by the truck-driving, podcast listening Sean Williams based in
Geelong, Victoria. Returning after a four year hiatus, there ain’t

McNulty, and supreme diva and ex-Rackette, Loretta Miller.
After moving to Melbourne, McNulty effortlessly integrated into the
Melbourne’s live jazz world. It’s a throng doused with incredible talent,
yet McNulty found a niche in the need for spontaneity and recklessness
in music. Growing wildly from the lounge rooms of late night house
parties to month-long Monday night residencies throughout the
city, the past four years have seen Jazz Party hold court at many of
Melbourne’s most electrifying venues. Jazz Party perform McNulty’s
original material as well as some classic jazz and everything else in
between. Whether they’re setlist is decorated by Tom Waits ballads,
Calypso slow jams or Prince bangers, Jazz Party pride themselves on
their extemporaneity and true originality.

Beyond Cleary’s considerable skills as a tunesmith
he is equally renowned around the globe as an
accomplished keyboardist and guitarist, and a
deeply soulful vocalist. Cleary’s thirty-ﬁve years
of intensive hands-on work on the Crescent City
scene has made him a respected peer of such New
Orleans R&B icons as Dr. John and Allen Toussaint.
Toussaint, in fact, took time from his busy
schedule to write most of the horn arrangements
for GoGo Juice – thus bringing symmetry to
Cleary’s recording of an entire album of Toussaint
songs, entitled Occapella, which garnered rave
reviews in 2012.
In addition to the Toussaint touch, GoGo Juice
bursts full ﬂavor, with expert accompaniment by
some of New Orleans’ top session men – including
guitarist Shane Theriot, fellow keyboardist and
vocalist Nigel Hall, and the Dirty Dozen horns
– along with members of Cleary’s band, the
Absolute Monster Gentlemen. In praise of Cleary’s
chemistry with this latter group, the eminent
music journalist David Fricke of Rolling Stone
declared that, “Cleary can be an absolute monster
on his own, but Cleary’s full combo R&B is as
broad, deep and roiling as the Mississippi River,
the combined swinging product of local keyboard.”

When Lindi Ortega went in search of some quiet last year, the award-winning artist was
pleasantly surprised to find a voice she hadn’t heard in some time – her own. Amid
sparse, atmospheric production, it’s precisely this voice – a combination of Ortega’s
fatalistic perspective expressed with her evocative soprano – that grips your attention
on a brand new EP, Til The Goin’ Gets Gone.
A dogged resilience permeates this unadorned collection – three originals and a cover
of Townes Van Zandt’s Waiting ‘Round To Die. The songs are the hard-won spoils of an
internal war with words that struck after an extended stretch of touring, addressed in
the EP’s title track about the detours and ditches that a traveling musician faces.
Ortega’s guitar-playing chops and innate country music instincts put her in an elite
group of artists; she has earned an unusually inclusive type of success with both indie
cred and mainstream country recognition. From supporting Carrie Underwood at the
CMA Awards to her opening slot on Chris Stapleton’s recent Canadian arena tour,

Little Georgia are a folk-grunge duo from Australia. Amongst a sea of rhythmic
and raw guitar tones collaborators Ashleigh Mannix and Justin Carter deliver
both beautiful harmonies and compelling lyrics which reveal the honesty in their
music. The duo are no strangers to touring and have spent the last year on the road
performing between Australia and North America including sets at AmericanaFest,
Byron Bay Blues & Roots Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival and Tamworth Country Music
Festival as well as a national tour support with American Grammy award-winning
artist Ryan Bingham.
In January 2016, Little Georgia released their debut album BOOTLEG, recorded in a
farmhouse on the rugged coastline of Portland, Victoria. Together with friends they
captured their music in its purest form, recording their debut album unplugged and
live to tape.

to 3,000 people at Falls Festival in 2014, being selected to

Australian roots troubadour Pat Tierney’s music nestles
somewhere between the inspiring sounds of Bob Dylan, Ry
Cooder and Bob Marley. A hint of folk and blues with a splash of
reggae roots, intertwined with soulful lap, slide guitar and sweet
melodies. The recent release of Pat’s debut album ‘Wild World
Blues’ in June of last year has seen a hugely successful 18 months
unfold for Pat on the back of extensive touring through Australia
and New Zealand. Taking his eclectic live performance to the
masses and performing alongside the likes of Mat McHugh (The
Beautiful Girls), Horrorshow, Bobby Alu and Dustin Thomas. Recent
festival performances at Blues on Broadbeach, Bendigo Blues and
Roots Festival and Neurum Creek Festival have also seen Pat’s
music continue to spread and find its true voice on the live stage.
Blending his love of slide guitar with percussive acoustic rhythms,
harmonica and percussion to create a sound all his own.

RON ARTIS II & THE TRUTH (USA)
Breaking onto the rock scene, The Refuge have been playing
for over three years. The member’s are only 17, yet the band’s
sound is heavily influenced by classic rock bands of the ‘70s
and grunge bands of the ‘90s as well as current rock bands on
the scene. Their thunderous sound is made for live gigs and
is expressed through the energy emitted by their powerful
stage presence. Often compared with bands like Nirvana, The
Doors and Silverchair, the band’s sound is still unique, they go
further and experiment with other styles creating a nice blend
of genres. Powerful vocals, staggering guitar riffs, energetic
drumming, killer bass playing and the definitive keyboard
sound makes up The Refuge. Currently working on their second
album which will showcase their ever-improving skills and
songwriting, The Refuge were recently ranked third on the
bands to watch list after King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and
Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever by the Weekly Review.
Ron Artis II, has been ‘living’ in music for as long as he can
remember. Living and growing up in Hawaii lends a peaceful
background to his music.

Arriving on the foodtruck scene in early 2015, Bibimbap serve the signature
Korean dish Bibimbap (no surprises there). The word literally means “mixed
rice”.Bibimbap is served as a bowl of warm white rice topped with seasoned
vegetables and gochujang (chili pepper paste), soy sauce, or doenjang. A raw or
fried egg and sliced meat (usually beef) are common additions. The ingredients
are stirred together thoroughly just before eating. The Bibimbap is made with
handpicked local produce.

A Ballarat family owned business specialise in spit roasted Greek food. Starting
out at the local market on the weekend, Charcoal Pit gradually turned into a
full time endevour catering events around the state.
Taking great pride in their food, all the lamb is locally sourced and fully
prepared inhouse. From deboning, slicing, marinating and cooking the meat
fresh on the day of any event, quality is the foundation of their product.

Yo India has ofﬁcially been on the streets of Melbourne since 2014 under the
cover of Big Cook Little Cook. Over the last two years, they put a lot of heart,
love and energy into creating the best food truck experience in town. They’ve
served just about everywhere from pop-ups bars, such as Moon Dog Brewery,
to festivals such as Queenscliff Music Festival, and night markets such as South
Melbourne Night Market.

Rough River is the musical project of
folk and alternative country singer/
songwriter Kate Skinner; her work quietly
aching with tales of love gone by and a
yearning for the natural world. Her live
show lends a certain looseness and grit
that underpins folk in the old sense of
the word - not as a set of readable signs,
but as an act of communion.

ARIA Hall of Fame inductee, #1 selling Platinum artist, King
of Pop, Australian icon - just a few words commonly used to
describe Aussie legend Russell Morris. First emerging behind
‘60s pop rock outﬁt Somebody’s Image, it’s Morris’ solo career
which has brought him the most success. Early hit, Hush, and
a stellar cover of Bob Dylan’s Baby Blue revealed a young
songwriter capable beyond his years.
Following that, Morris penned specialties such as Sweet
Sweet Love, The Girl and That I Love before landing on the
timeless classic, The Real Thing. Morris was quickly becoming
a household name and slots alongside industry heavyweights
such as Cher, the Bee Gees, Linda Ronstadt and the Beach Boys
came thick and fast.
In 2012, the luminary captured the hearts and imaginations

Sharkmouth, the ﬁrst of a trilogy of albums re-telling some
amazing stories from the Australia’s past. The blues rock
collection sprawls narratives such as Breaker Morant, his
father’s escape of Sandakan, the Eureka Stockade and many

In 2017, Sagamore are back with their
debut album Charlemont Reef, a
collection of heartfelt songs that
swagger with blue-eyed soul and afro
funk laden grooves. Awarded the 2014
Queenscliff Music Festival’s Emerging
Artist Grant, the band have spent the last
two and half years pursuing inspiration
across continents, and realizing their
musical vision in the hills of Aireys Inlet.
Sagamore’s debut album is a stunning
mix of songs and sounds, banded
together by timeless songwriting and
considered arrangements. Charlemont
Reef is out now through Dusky Tracks.
S A M M Y J
Sammy J is an award-winning comedian, writer and musician. A proud nerd, he
abandoned his law degree to travel the world and sing funny songs for a living. You may
have seen him on TV, at a festival, or as one half of the man/puppet duo Sammy J &
Randy.
As a solo act, Sammy J was nominated for the Barry Award this year, won Best Comedy
at Melbourne Fringe in 2016 and, in 2006, took home Best Newcomer at the Melbourne
International Comedy Festival.
In 2008, a collaboration with puppeteer Heath McIvor led to the dark musical comedy
Forest of Dreams but since then, a lot of his success has come alongside purple puppet
friend, Randy. Over the past few years, the acclaimed two-piece show has journeyed the
globe from the Sydney Opera House to London’s West End.
On top of his luminous stage work, Sammy J is a proud ambassador for the mentoring
service, Big Brothers Big Sisters. Yet, Sammy J’s biggest project remains unfinished. In
2008, he started The 50 Year Show, a comedy spectacular that will run every five years
until 2058. The show continues in Melbourne in 2018.

THE SOUTHERN RIVER BAND
Within the first year of formation, The Southern River Band has
literally gone from playing to a handful of people and the bar staff
down at The Thornlie Tavern to selling out headline shows across
Western Australia as one of Perth’s Powerhouse acts. Rock’n’roll
with a dash of boogie woogie and a sprinkle of country, or as
someone best summed it up once as: “Just sounds like a goddamn
Saturday night”. Influenced by the purest rock and roll bands of
the 70’s and 80’s, from timeless melodies written by Bob Seger and
the Glenn Frey to heavier riffs in Van Halen and Lynyrd Skynyrd,
The Southern River Band’s plethora of songs covers various genres,
all delivered in explosive, true SRB style.
The Southern River Band’s debut album ‘Live At The Pleasuredome’
was in such high demand that they sold out one of Perth’s
premiere music venues Jack Rabbit Slim’s.

Spiritus are an indie roots Singer/Songwriting trio performing

Geelong and the Surfcoast is home
to a true world leader in music. The
Sweethearts, audacious, exhilarating and
an ever-youthful neo-soul band were
recently awarded in Italy during their 2017
Europe tour, for their contribution to the
world music industry. Sweethearts are the
only Australian musicians to have shared
the stage with the great Bernard ‘Pretty’
Purdie (Aretha Franklin, James Brown and
B.B. King). Sweethearts’ soul is good for
the soul.

It’s been an adventurous few years for The Temper Trap with
over a million albums sold, arena supports with Coldplay
and the Rolling Stones and stage slots at Glastonbury,
Lollapalooza and Coachella.
Flashing back to where it began, 2009 saw the outfit announce
themselves to the world behind timeless keepsake Sweet
Disposition. It created a height of expectation but wouldn’t
constrain their capabilities on stunning debut album,
Conditions.
Years of worldwide touring ensued and so did the loss of
Lorenzo Sillitto in 2013. The once five-piece had to adapt to
it’s new four-sided polygonal figure. For the first time they
looked to collaborate with outside figures – Malay (Frank
Ocean) and Justin Parker (Lana Del Rey, Sia) are just a few
names to have lent their services. The same year, a studio
for imagination and design was built in North London and so
album three would arise.
In 2016, 11 tracks were unearthed to shape their first album
since 2012, Thick As Thieves. An admirable return to form saw
electronic vestiges buttress a very much guitar-driven record.
After a string of homecoming dates in 2017, The Temper Trap
will be bring a specially curated, exclusive, performance to
Queenscliff Music Festival.

The Tides of Welcome is a welcoming, inclusive, community
based choir in Queenscliff who enjoy the experience of singing
together.
They create soulful harmonies under the direction of their
dedicated leader, singer songwriter, Andrea Robertson.
There is something powerful about the experience of singing
together where these feelings of warmth, joy and harmony are

Honouring that old school Motown sound and working it into
something of their very own, The Teskey Brothers appeared
seemingly out of nowhere in 2017 with their debut album Half
Mile Harvest. Written by all four band members, the album was
self-produced in their own studio and released independently.
Listening to the record you’d be forgiven for thinking it was
the work of Stax Records alumni in Memphis circa ‘67 and not
that of a group of twenty-somethings from the Yarra Valley.

Tom Richardson is your newest oldest friend and is stoked to
be back at QMF in 2017 with a brand new CD. With an infectious
and genuine demeanour, Tom’s songwriting, storytelling and
intricate guitar playing are a delicate balance of grace, truth
and passion. Appreciating the freedom of exploration and the
privilege of forging relationships with listeners and cultures
around the world, Tom has performed in 15 different countries
across the globe, reflected in his musical arrangements that
may be best categorised into experiences and emotions than
genre. Renowned as a “maestro” for his “clever skills” (The AU
Review) on the loop pedal, Tom is seen dancing over his pedals,
creating soundscapes of four part vocal harmonies, multiple
guitar sections and complicated percussion grooves, all live
on stage.

At the 2016 CMA Awards, a sound burst from the stage like an
earthquake. Beyoncé performed Daddy Lessons accompanied by
Dixie Chicks and Too Many Zooz – the New York City trio which
originally recorded the song on the star’s Lemonade. Too Many
Zooz’s baritone saxophonist Leo Pellegrino, trumpeter Matt
Doe, and drummer King of Sludge held Nashville’s Bridgestone
Arena stage for mere minutes – a moment which went viral and
forged a booming fascination. The outfit’s manic music, dubbed
‘BrassHouse’ by drummer King of Sludge, is an irresistible
summoning genres, EDM, house, techno, and glitch, paired to
the indigenous punch of Cuban, Afro-Cuban, Caribbean, and
Brazilian Carnival rhythms. Marvels of simplicity born of musical
complexity.
“Our music is a democracy,” Doe says. “From the start, we were
all bouncing off each other, listening to each other and not
thinking too much.” This will be something special.

Born in a little river town just off the Ohio River called Aurora, Travis Bowlin found
his love for roots music at the age 11, when he started singing for the honourable
Cincinnati Boy Choir. Throughout his teenage years, Bowlin was very heavily involved
in his school’s music program in both band and choir and following his graduation,
Bowlin traversed Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana booking as many shows as he could to
hone his craft.
It wasn’t until 2012 when Bowlin would sign his first independent record deal. In
2014, the songwriter released his first studio single Bad, Bad Man. Featured on
radio stations across the world, the hit would land Bowlin a performance spot on
Nashville’s NBC News. In 2015, the single See You Again was released along with
Bowlin’s first official music video. The track climbed the charts and got the songwriter
on the 2016 entry ballot for possible Grammy Nomination in Best American Roots
Performance and Best American Roots Song categories.
Amidst a huge tour sprawling 20 US states before he arrives to Australia, Bowlin is
coming in hot for Queenscliff Music Festival 2017.

Liverpool born Vince Peach has been spinning original soul 45s for as long as anyone
can remember. An avid collector of northern soul, Vince still manages to unearth
gems that keep dance ﬂoors jumping all over his adopted homeland. With records
arriving on a daily basis, you can always be sure to hear something new at his gigs
around town. Vince Peach hosts Soul Time on PBS FM, reputed to be the longest
running soul show in the world. Original DJ at Cherry Bar, the Thursday night soul
sessions ‘In the Basement’ has been running for 11 years and is the longest running
weekly soul night in the world. Vince laid the foundations for the highly successful
Soul-a-Go-Go, where he still tops the bill after three fabulous years. Come along
and listen to Vince spinning northern soul, sweet soul and Motown. You won’t be

The Wilson Pickers are a five-piece ensemble consisting of
Andrew Morris, Danny Widdicombe, John Bedggood, Sime
Nugent and Ben Salter. Each of the five members are acclaimed
performers in their own right - Morris has released five solo
albums and tours in Bernard Fanning’s band; Nugent has
fronted a number of Melbourne ensembles and is a member
of duo Sweet Jean; Widdicombe has released a number of solo
albums and has performed with Tim Rogers; Salter is an award
winning solo artist and founding member of The Gin Club
and Giants of Science; and John Bedggood is a sought after
instrumentalist who has performed with David Bridie, Kasey
Chambers, Shane Nicholson, Bernard Fanning and many others.
Together they perform a blend of folk, country and blues music
with bluegrass instrumentation - mandolin, fiddle, banjo,
resonator and harmonica - and stirring five part harmonies.

Since the very beginning, Xavier Rudd’s ability to connect with
people has been his most powerful gift. The more he has toured
the world, the more hearts he has touched and the more of
the world he has put back into his music. Enthralling audiences
with his multi-instrumentation, Rudd’s 2002 debut album,
To Let, introduced a sound that was a mix of guitars, yidakis
(didgeridoos), stomp box and percussion, blues harp and vocals.
Between 2005 and 2010, Rudd would release another four
albums and solidify his musical versatility. Food in the Belly
incorporated a range of genres, from reggae to world music
to rock. White Moth arrived in 2007 and garnered attention
worldwide. Gritty, dark and introspective, 2008’s Dark Shades of
Blue would be Rudd’s most adventurous musical foray upon its
release.

Yet after ten years, it was 2012 when fans were exposed
to Rudd’s most triumphant album, Spirit Bird. Led by the
wonderfully delicate Follow The Sun, the LP captured the most
beautiful aspects of his voice, his songs and his spirit. From
there, Rudd would form his first-ever full band, the United
Nations, on top of a sprawling two-hour live set which has
captivated fans the world over.

YOT H U YINDI & THE TREATY PROJECT
Inspired by the new remix package celebrating the 25th
anniversary of “Treaty (Filthy Lucre Remix)”, ARIA Hall of Fame
inductees Yothu Yindi reunite with Gavin Campbell, founding
member of Filthy Lucre, in a reinvigorated formation featuring
original Yothu Yindi members and special guests performing
the band’s classic hits as well as brand new material, all with an
electronic twist.
Founding members of Yothu Yindi Witiyana Marika, Stuart
Kellaway and Kevin Marlangay will be joined by the popular
Indigenous singer/songwriters Yirrmal, Constantina Bush and
Yirrnga Yunupingu who make up the Treaty Project.
Young Yolngu man Yirrmal, is the son of Witiyana, while Bush
is the larger-than-life, burlesque performing alter-ego of
celebrated Indigenous artist and performer Kamahi Djordon
King. Rounding out the Treaty Project is new vocalist and
Yunupingu clan member Yirrnga. Yothu Yindi released their
timeless hit, “Treaty” in 1991 as a protest against a broken
promise by the Hawke Government. Clearly, the time is now for
the band to once again hit the road, raising awareness for the
need for treaty. Treaty yeah, treaty NOW!
YIRRMAL & THE MILIYAWUTJ
Yirrmal is the ‘Youngblood’ of the next generation, setting
an example of living in two worlds and balancing between
traditional and contemporary cultures. He is an inspiring
songwriter and guitarist with a powerful voice, melding
songlines and folk to sing songs about life and culture. He
openly shares his identity, spirit and connection to the land
and engages the hearts of those that are lucky enough to hear
him. These gripping live performances are something every
Australian should experience.
New-gen Indigenous artist Yirrmal Marika, from North-East
Arnhem Land, has been making inroads into the music scene
for the last 3 years. Inspired by his father and founding
member of Yothu Yindi, Witiyana Marika, Yirrmal melds
tradition and contemporary with passion.

W HAT IS THE F OOT-IN-THE-DOOR PROGRAM?
FOOT-in-the-DOOR is a vibrant youth program that is supported
by FReeZA and runs for the duration of the Queenscliff Music
Festival.
Its purpose is to help emerging young artists showcase their
talents, and as the name suggests get a ‘foot-in-the-door’ in
the music industry. It gives young artists the chance to perform
live in front of an audience at a nationally acclaimed music
festival, which is a very valuable and rewarding experience for
those selected artists.
There are three sections of the FOOT-in-the-DOOR competition:
Acoustic/Folk, Blues Roots & Beyond, and Rock. Five bands/
artists will play in each section battling it out in front of a
panel of industry judges and spectators for the Grand Prize.
Grand Prize - winner of each category will receive a day
recording and mixing at Don’t Poke the Bear Studios, all thanks
to our friends at Oxygen College.

HOOP FUSION
With a passion for all things circular, local act Hoop Fusion brings along
a gigantic stack of hoops and fun. Prepare to be hoopnotized by the
tricks and twirls then unleash your little ones and let them in on the
spin. Creative director and self confessed hoop addict Tarn, has been
teaching her spiralling art form for over a decade and is excited to be
sharing her hoops again at Queenscliff Music Festival.

MARIMBATATERS
The MarimbaTaters are students from Tate Street Primary School
in East Geelong who love to play marimba! This energetic band
plays African-inspired tunes and funky grooves that will have you
dancing. Students in the MarimbaTaters rehearse at school in their
own time and some have been members the band for three years.
The band is led by teacher and community music leader Dani Rocca,
and accompanied at the festival by Adam Burke and David Jeffery
on percussion. No strangers to performing, the MarimbaTaters are
mallet-wavingly excited to be at Queenscliff!

THE KAZOOS
The Kazoos are one of Australias most acclaimed children’s
acts. Touring nationally and internationally since 2008 they
have performed at some of the countries most prestigious
events and theatres. Many prominent media and entertainment
personalities are raving about The Kazoos. Olympic swimmer
Michael Klim says,”Our kids are obsessed with The Kazoos, we
are deﬁnitely their biggest fans,” while Chris Cheney from the
Living End proclaims, “My daughter is so star struck by The
Kazoos! They might as well be The Beatles!” The Herald Sun has
branded them “the challenges to The Wiggles throne” because if
The Kazoos do one thing exceptionally well it’s entertain kids!

THE LOST CIRCUS
The gang from ‘Pirate Ship Productions’ are back with a new show
‘The Lost Circus’! The ringmasters have arrived but they have lost
their circus! No trapeze artists, jugglers or lion tamers! What are
they to do? Hang on for a crazy ride as the team madly improvise
to create a super circus. They’ll have to use their wits, hidden skills
and audience members to get the job done!

A live Ice Carving Display from local artist Glenn Smith. A regular at
QMF over the years Glenn’s live Ice Carving is an exciting performance

Ridiculous will entertain the whole family with slapstick
comedy, silly stunts, special guests and a few circus skills.

Red the Clown has become a legend to generations of children. With

Red’s style is a loveable blend of the traditional and contemporary in
clowning, reﬂected not only in his modern styled costuming coupled
with full face makeup, but also in his dynamic yet Sensitive approach
to his audience.

ROAMING ENTERTAINERS
Big Rory and Ochie the Dog are no ordinary street theatre characters.
They explode onto an audience. A giant Scotsman and his endearing
giant dog. Visually enormous, their characters are huge too.
Watch out for The Giant Seagulls! Totally surrealistic, with working
beaks, they’ll be rummaging in bags and pockets, stealing food from
plates and picnic baskets, causing chaos and squabbling amongst
themselves.
The Sniffer Dogs are Surreal security! On the prowl for unusual smells
they leave people screaming with laughter. Hiarious!
Mirabelle the Snail may be slow and quiet, but watch out because
she’s hungry. Picnics, lunch boxes and unsuspecting children beware
– Mirabelle’s liable to leave no basket unturned in the never-ending
quest for lunch.
Albrecht the Rhino roams the urban jungle on the hunt for food,
shelter and fun. Don’t get on the wrong side of him however; he is not
adverse to charging!

WELCOME TO THE 2017 QUEENSCLIFF MUSIC FESTIVAL

Last year was a huge success for Queenscliff Music Festival (QMF) and we celebrated our 20th
anniversary in great style. Not only was it the first time we have sold out prior to the festival
weekend, but QMF also won the Victorian Tourism Award in the Festivals & Events category for 2016.
Most importantly, the feedback we received from last
year’s festival attendees was overwhelmingly positive,
and this has been reflected in record ticket sales for
2017, with the festival again sold out prior to the festival
weekend.
Your feedback is important to us, and we review each and
every survey so that we can continue to improve your
festival experience. This year, in addition to another great
line-up of both international and Australian artists, we
have focused on revamping the site, creating more open
space and easier movement between venues, improved
seating and bar facilities, and streamlining the drink
tickets process.
You will notice in 2017, we have also introduced scanning
of wristbands on exit from the main festival site. This
will help us gather important data on numbers of people
within the site, to assist with emergency management and
support future planning.
We are actively pursuing a carbon neutral festival, and
have initiated a number of site improvements designed
to reduce our carbon footprint. In addition to power and
sewerage enhancements to the site, we are stepping up
our focus on recycling.
To help us recycle as much waste as possible over the
weekend, we seek your assistance by using the bins as
marked, as this will stop contaminated recyclables ending
up as landfill.
The success of our festival is primarily due to the
fantastic work of our energetic festival director, Andrew
Orvis and his team, Lee Rosser, Vivien Fogarty, and Louise
Roberts. Andrew and his team work tirelessly throughout
the year to ensure the festival maintains high standards,
meets community expectations, and introduces new
and varied experiences. Supported by a small band of
volunteers who provide year round support, the number
of volunteers over the weekend swells to well over 400.
We are indebted to our volunteers, many of whom have
qualified for 5, 10, 15 and 20 years of service. You will see
our many volunteers across the weekend wearing their
Q-Crew T-shirts, they are there to assist you, as required.
Producing a financial surplus is an important element
for the sustainability of QMF. This means being able
to confidently run the Festival each year and plan
for the future, being able to contribute to long term
infrastructure for Lower Princess Park, (good for QMF and
good to attract new events to Queenscliff) and make a
contribution back to the Queenscliff community.
Part of our festival surplus together with the generous
donations provided by our Friends of the Festival, goes to
supporting local emerging artists, and we are pleased to
announce that for 2017 the Emerging Artist Grant, now in
its seventh year, has been awarded to Andrea Robertson
and The Refuge, both of whom are playing over the
weekend. I hope you can give them your support by going
to their gigs at the Festival.
We also have a number of partnerships with community
groups to provide services to the festival where they
have the capacity and capability to do so. In this way, our
festival provides important fundraising opportunities for
various community groups.
Our sincere thanks must also go to our sponsors, all of
whom are listed within the program. Their support is
invaluable, and we ask that you support them where you
can. Particular thanks must go to our major sponsors
Visit Victoria, Searoad Ferries, and the Borough of
Queenscliffe. A special Happy Birthday to Searoad Ferries
who celebrated their 30th Birthday this year.
We firmly believe that the headline act for QMF is
Queenscliff itself, a truly wonderful part of the world, with
much to see and enjoy. I hope you have a great time here
in Queenscliff over the weekend, and see enough of the
town and its surrounds to encourage you to come back
at another time and enjoy some of the other benefits
Queenscliff has to offer. In 2018, QMF will be working on
new Winter Weekend events in June & July, so we look
forward to welcoming you back to our beautiful town
then!

All buses are operated by McHarrys Bus Services. Bus stop
is located on Wharf Street across from the entrance to the
Festival. Look for the Bus Signs. Schedules available from
Info Point and at the Bus Stop.
Access - Drop-off point and limited Disability Parking
Permit Only is located on Symonds Street between
Gellibrand Street and Wharf Street. With the exception of
Salt and Brewhouse, all venues are wheelchair friendly.
The Lighthouse & Hippos stages have a viewing platform.
Look for the Access signs at each venue. There are three
accessible toilets located within the Festival Precinct.

Lost Children / Parents – Head to the Info point, located near
the ticket exchange for lost people. If unattended, children in
the Kids Quarter become in need of adult supervision, they will
be treated as lost and escorted to the Info Point. Police will be
called if children are lost for an extended period. Please report
lost people to the Info Point, Security Ofﬁcer or Venue Warden.
