1974-77: Dallas Independent School District (DISD) and Dallas Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC)
(http://www.oicofamerica.org/). Middle school (Grade 7) mathematics for DISD during day; adult business education
during evenings for Dallas OIC.
1978-84: Caddo Parish Schools. High school general mathematics, Algebra I & II, business mathematics, and
introductory computer science (featuring instruction in BASIC and FORTRAN programming languages)
1984-86 and 1988-91: Louisiana State University-Shreveport (Mathematics Department). Undergraduate courses
in mathematics and computer science: Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, Math Concepts, Elementary Applied
Calculus, Geometry for Teachers, Introduction to Computer Science, and Elementary Mathematics for Teachers. The
interruption in service occurred during a sabbatical.
1986-88: Texas A&M University (College Station, TX). Mathematics laboratory classes for the Elementary

Publications
I have at least 32 publications: 14 single-authored; 13 in refereed journals, and 5 scholarly research —edited/refereed;
and 4 applied research. At least 12 are in premier publications of mathematics education at national and international
levels. The premier journals in mathematics education at the national/international levels are the Journal for Research
in Mathematics Education (JRME) for mathematics education research; and Teaching Children Mathematics (Grades
P-6), Teaching Mathematics in the Middle School (Grades 5-8), and Mathematics Teacher (Grades 7-12) for
practical/applied research.
Presentations
I have at least 41 presentations at conferences of learned societies: 14 at the national level (11 of those as single
presenter); 10 at the regional level (all single-presenter); 13 at the state level (11 of those as single presenter);
and 2 at the local level (one as single-presenter).
I have at least 65 presentations at other professional conferences or for schools that often involved the
presentation of a workshop for professional development for teachers and administrators.
I have at least 10 presentations in international venues, which include presentations of research in mathematics
education or delivery of mathematics/math-technology presentations/workshops in Guadalajara, Mexico (1998);

Research, Grants/Applied Research
I successfully obtained 12 small internal grants from Miami University—ranging from $250 to approximately
$17,700. For 11 of these grants I was the project director or lead principal investigator (PI).
I successfully obtained at least 24 external grants, 14 of which I served as lead PI. These grants funded by the
Ohio Board of Regents, the Ohio Department of Education, the U.S. Department of Education, and the National
Science Foundation exceeded a total of $2.8 million.
I served as project evaluator for at least six local, state, or nationally funded grants, ranging from $5,000 to
$500,000.
Fulbright Scholar Activity
I conducted workshops and small conferences for Portuguese in-service and preservice teachers. My host site
was in Viana do Castelo, Portugal. However, I spent one month at the University of Aveiro in Aveiro, Portugal,
and one week at the University do Minho in Braga. February to June, 1996
I was selected by the Fulbright Commission in Portugal to attend the International Fulbright Commission
Meeting in Berlin, Germany as one of two representatives from Portugal.
Professional Service (to the Profession, University, Community)
My professional service includes leadership roles at the international, national, state, and local levels: member of
national/international committees, co-editor of a national online journal highlighting technology for mathematics
educators, board member for a state-level leadership council; numerous instances of professional consulting for
federal, state, and local education-related agencies; and many reviews of submitted manuscripts to professional
journals and other printed media for publication.
