2. Adjective
An adjective deals with the words used to add
something to the meaning of a noun or pronoun. e.g.
• He is a nice man.
• He is an intelligent boy.
3. Kinds of Adjectives
Adjective may be divided into following classes:
• Adjective of Quality ( Descriptive Adjective )
• Adjective of Quantity
• Adjective of Number
• Demonstrative Adjective
• Interrogative Adjective
4. Adjective of Quality
Shows the kind or quality of a person or thing. e.g.
• Islamabad is the capital of Pakistan.
• He is an honest man.
5. Adjective of Quantity:
Shows how much of the thing is meant. But they do not
provide exact numbers; rather they tell us the amount
of the noun in relative or whole terms. e.g.
• He has little knowledge.
• He did not eat any rice.
• There has not been sufficient rain this year.
6. Adjective of Number
Shows how much persons or things are meant. e.g.
• Hand has five fingers.
• There are eight oranges in the bowl.
7. • Adjective of number are of three
kinds
• Definite Numeral Adjectives (one, two, first,
fourth etc.)
• Indefinite Numeral Adjectives (all, many, few,
some, any etc.)
• Distributive Numeral Adjective (each, every,
either, or, neither etc.)
9. Interrogative Adjective
When these words (what, which and whose) are used
with nouns to ask questions, are called Interrogative
Adjective. e.g.
• Whose book is this?
• Which way shall we go?
11. For example
• I bought a new round good red wooden Pakistani writing
table.
Correct order:
• I bought a good rectangular new red Pakistani wooden writing
table.

12. Adverb
• The word that modifies the meaning of a verb, an
adjective or another adverb. e.g.
• He runs quickly.
• This book is more interesting than the last one.
• He runs very fast.
13. Adverbs with “–ly”:
• When adverb modifies some “action” verbs or adjectives. e.g.
• He played his innings nicely.
• He literally wrecked his car.
Adverbs without “–ly”:
• When adverb modifies some “sense” verbs.
• He seems sad today.
• The food smells rancid.
14. Kinds of Adverb
Adverbs are of following kinds:
• Adverb of Time
• Adverb of Place
• Adverb of Manner
• Adverb of Frequency
• Adverb of Degree or quantity
15. Adverb of Time
(which show “When”).
• I have heard this before.
• We shall now begin to work.
• That day he arrived late.
16. Adverb of Place
(which show “Where”).
• Stand here.
• The little lamb followed Mary everywhere.
• They built a house nearby.
17. Adverb of Manner
(which show “How or in what manner”)
• This machine works efficiently.
• The child slept soundly.
• Tortoise walks slowly.
18. Adverb of Frequency
(which show “How often”)
• I have told you twice.
• She often makes mistakes.
• He seldom lends something.
19. Adverb of Degree
( which show “how much”, or “to what extent”)
• He is too careless.
• She was just leaving for work.
• The water was extremely cold.
