As a proud Bidayuh, we normally use Bidayuh language
among ourselves. In Sarawak, there are variety of
unique ethnics namely Kadazan, Iban, Ulu, Kenyah etc.
Despite grouped into one race, we use different
languages and dialects. The Bidayuh language can be
divided into 3 major languages that are Bukar-Sadong,
Singai-Jagoi and Biatah. Each of time language has
different words and the slang and it is arduous to learn
these language compared to the iban language. From
these 3 major languages it can be divided into many
more dialects. As for me, my major language is Biatah.
Under Biatah there are different types of dialects which
are serian, bau and singgai. I am using Bau dialects

Bidayuh (Bi- Dayuh) or Land Daya is one of the minority
ethnic in Sarawak. We are the second largest Dayak
ethnic group in Sarawak after the Iban (Sea Dayak). The
name Bidayuh itself means the people of Land. ‘Bi’
means people and ‘Dayuh’ means land. My society
(Biatah) are originally came from the land mainly the
mountains where our main activity is plantation in order
to provide our basic needs which is food.

Me as a Bidayuh speak a number of different but related
dialects. Some Bidayuh people speak either English or
Sarawak Malay as their main language. While some of
them still practise traditional religions, the major of
modern day Bidayuh people have adopted the Christian
faith as a minority group within the Bidayuh community.
