8. Tourism
Jog Falls - Acclaimed as the most famous attractions of
the state and the highest waterfall in India; situated 100
kms from Shivamogga City
Linganmakki Dam : 6 Kms from Jog falls this dam is
constructed across river Sharavathi. The height of the
dam is 1819 ft above sea level. Linganmakki dam is the
main feeder reservoir for the Mahatma Gandhi Hydro
Electric Power unit.
B.R.P Dam : Located 28 kms from Shivamogga city
near Kuvempu University. The dam is constructed across
river Bhadra and the height of the dam is 194 ft. There
are a number of islands created by the Bhadra river.
Agumbe : This spectacular sunset point is also known as
the Chirapunji of South India as it receives the highest
rainfall in South India. This picturesque landscape is
renowned for its glorious Sunset. Vanake-Abbey Falls
surrounded by lush green trees and natural beauty, 4
Kms away from Agumbe.
Keladi: The first capital of Keladi Nayakas, it has a large
courtyard
Shivappa Naik Palace: This palace is situated on the
banks of river Tunga in the busy lanes of Shivamogga
city. This palace was built by Shivappa Naik of Keladi in
16th century. Rameshvara temple, Veerbhadreshvara
temple, and the Parvathi temple.
Kodachadri :This is the highest peak in Shivamogga
District. Kodachadri is around 120 km from Shivamogga.
This beautiful hill station is nestled in the western Ghats.
Kuvempu House- Kuppali, is a small village in
Thirthahalli taluk. It is famous for being the birthplace
and childhood home of the renowned Kannada
playwright and poet Kuvempu
Sakrebayalu Elephant Camp: Located 14km from
Shivamogga, you can catch a glimpse of several elephants
playing in the waters, by getting into this camp before
9am.
Tunga Anicut Dam - Majestic Dam & a popular picnic
spot situated around 12 kms from Shivamogga
Tyavarekoppa Lion Safari - The place of unaltered
nature and wildlife; situated 10 kms from Shivamogga
Mandagadde Bird Sanctuary – sanctuary hosting
some of the mostmagnificent birds; situated at 30 kms
from Shivamogga
Honnemaradu - popular haunt for power sailing, water
skiing, sailing, and water sledging; situated 100 kms from
Shivamogga
Guduvi Bird Sanctuary - Only sanctuary located in
the midst of dense forest with 191 varieties of birds
Achakanya Falls : 10 Kms from Thirthahalli on the
way to Hosanagar near Aralsuruli you can find this eye
catching water falls. The river Sharavathi takes a
spectacular leap here to form this wonderfull falls.
Hidlamane Falls : This falls is situated near Nittur in
Hosanagar Taluk. To reach the falls you have to trek the
rocky hills surrounded by dense lush trees. Don’t forget
to carry your food stuff.
