Descriptive Essay On Hunting
INTRO: I never thought I would feel so awful after pulling that trigger and watching that innocent animal give it's life to me. I was only ten years
old and my life was certainly impacted forever. Nowadays, many people think that pulling the trigger of a gun is not hard at all. In reality, it might be
pretty easy. It is the aftermath on the other hand that will leave an internal scar, changing a person forever. On my first deer hunt, a young buck
stepped out of the dense willow clusters with it's head down, giving me a shot. Soon I would be faced with the tough decision of taking the life of an
innocent animal. Meanwhile, on my first turkey hunt, there too I would soon be changed forever.
BODY PARAGRAPH #1: It was a cool and crisp evening that nipped at the tips of my toes and fingers. I could smell the fresh snow from the
previous night's dusting that blanketed the landscape like a pearly white canvas. The sun was about to set and soon I would be out of daylight. That
means no deer this year. Shortly, a buck would come in and I would pullthe trigger.
I perched myself up in a tree stand overlooking a massive river valley. This is the place where deer come down and across in order to get to the
fields for feeding. The towering tree stand soared over many small trees. I glanced over the railing, looking down at the snowy forest floor many feet
below. It was a frightening height. "Pull your gun up. I'll work my way back around to try and push some deer

"Brrr." I shivered when I stepped into the shallow water. After 30 seconds, though, I adjusted. "C'mon Tessa!" my brother Zen, called out as he raced

it was only at Lake Michigan in Chicago. As we ran my dad followed us into the water. "Hey, Zen, can you do this?" I asked as I waddled like a duck, "

Descriptive Essay About Sadness
Sadness. Some people will say they learned how to drive this summer, or they learned how to waterski. But I learned what sadness is.
My mum and I spent two weeks with my grandfather and grandmother this summer. I knew my grandfather's health was failing. I knew he wasn't
doing well. But I had absolutely no conception of how bad it was. He couldn't take ten steps without yelping in pain. He couldn't do much of anything
by himself. Those two weeks were spent helping my grandparents any way I possibly could, carrying my grandfather 's walker places, and playing
endless games of scrabble with him.
My grandfather is the best scrabble player I have ever met. Every time I had visited him, we had played at least once a day and he would beat me...show

My eyes were clouded over and I just kept hearing the words that the principal had said over and over again. He had passed away. I didn't even know
him well, but the idea that he could just be gone terrified me. Now it was happening to my grandfather.
"How can someone just be gone?" I pleaded with my mum, but probably more with God than her. "How can someone be here one day, and then
gone the next?' Tears began to fill my eyes and cloud my vision. "How is it that someone dies when their body fails them? How is it that one day
Grandad will be gone, and I won't be able to talk to him anymore, or call him, or play scrabble with him? It's just not fair!"
I collapsed into tears while my mum pulled over. We just sat there for a while, both hugging each other andcrying our eyes out. There was so much
sadness in me. It was like a black hole, swallowing me up from the inside. It was an intense form of grief that I had never felt before. I would cry and
feel my whole body shaking, tears coming out of my eyes, but my soul also gasping inside of me, trying to throw out that black hole, but instead getting
consumed.
My mum's face streamed with tears. "I feel the same way," she whispered before falling into heart wrenching sobs, the same sobs that had been
haunting me for months, as she had been crying over her dad's

Descriptive Writing On The Beach
As you walk on the rustic wooden bridge that leads to the neverā€“ending sand on the shore of the Panama City Beach, you feel the bright sun beaming at
you and hear the sounds of the thrashing waves against the gritty golden sand. The smell of the salty ocean and the burning sensation of the sand
against the feet of those who forgot flipā€“flops are overwhelmed as they walk off the bridge. The sky is a never ending blue with occasional clouds and
airplanes that pass by with commercials, and sometimes the chirping seagulls that scavenge for the sight of food. The beach is a place like no other
with the crowds of people, the scenery of the water and the sky combined, and the trillions of small sand grains. The first thing that is seen by the
naked eye is the magnificent site of the beach filled with crowds of people. When people walk on the old wooden bridge, there is the clutter of
people who pose for the perfect photo of the vibrant colors of the ocean and the breeze that blows as soft as a baby. However, the sand on the
beach is covered with blankets upon blankets of women tanning, children building sand castles, and men trying to relax and enjoy the vacation from
the endless days of work. The children in an array of colorful swimwear build almost perfect sand castles, while others play in the water with boogie
boards and rush against tides of the seaweed infested waters. As the eye is averted from the children to the sky, the colonies of seagulls are found,

I threw on my jacket, snow pants, boots, and hat as quickly as I could, preparing for the journey from my cozy home into the sub zero weather.
"Don't forget your scarf, sweetie!" my mom yelled to me as I struggled to open the front door while holding a sled in one hand and a pair of gloves
in the other. Successfully turning the lock and pushing the handle, my eyes caught sight of a scene that I've only dreamed of: a blanket of white
covered everything I could lay my eyes on. Houses, cars, mailboxes, and even fire hydrants were coated in a sea of bright flurries that reflected the
sun. Pulling the hand warmers out of my coat pocket, I tore off the wrapper, shook them, and stuck them inside my gloves as I slid them on and
began to make my way down, what I thought was our driveway, towards the sidewalk with the dog sled dragging alongside my footsteps collecting the
top layer of the powdery white flakes as the loud crunching of snow being packed down with every step I took filled my ears. Finally I reached a long
narrow ice kissed sidewalk, the once cold, wet burdensome boots I had on become as light as a feather as I skated along the frozen pathway. A
treacherous climb up the long, steep staircase covered in slush leading to the top of the sled hill laid before me. Unfortunately this was the only way

I walked along the shoreline, pleasantly stepping from rock to rock with my fishing rod in one hand and my tackle box in the other. Even though
the sun was barely hovering over the horizon, there was still an hour of good daylight left. As I looked for a place where I wanted to fish. I
admired the orange reflection on the ocean. I stepped down off the big rocks, and continued on my path, stepping over seashells, bunches of
seaweed, and the occasional washed up buoy. Farther down the seashore, I finally found a spot with a big boulder that jutted out into the ocean from
which I could fish. I made my way out to the tip of it, and was soaked by a wave that had slammed up against the face of the rock. I tasted that

A good hour and a half passed without my catching anything, but I kept at it. Even though I had not experienced the exhilaration of hooking a
fish, i was certainly enjoying this change from my normal life routine. I continued casting and reeling in my lure as I stared at the ripples created
by its erratic movements in the water, and listened to the powerful waves crashing against the shore. This repetitive and care free activity offered
me an opportunity to reflect, and it helped me to clear my mind. My reflection was suddenly cut short, as I felt a strong tap on my line, signifying
a fish had hit my lure. I gave a quick flick of my wrist, setting the hook. I began to work the fish towards me. The bass was relentless and was not
going to be caught without giving up a fight. My mind was so focused on getting this fish to shore that i forgot everything that was going through
my head. The full fight, which must have taken about 10 minutes, seemed to last a minute to me. I landed the fish, held it by its lip, and removed
the lure from its mouth. I looked at this creature of the sea, that I had just fought to bring to shore. It lay curiously still as I studied it, with only its
rapidly fluttering gills showing any signs of life, as they gasped for air. Its camouflage was now on full display for me. The brown greens spotted back,

Descriptive Essay On Interview
Location
For the three interviews, I went to a coffeeshop, an apartment, and an office. I decided on going to a coffee shop for the first interview because it
was a public place and to be honest, I really wanted coffee that morning. It was a great place to feel relaxed and at home with the interview which I
believe translated into a better interview. I felt a lot more comfortable asking different questions and the interviewee felt more comfortable with
sharing information that might be considered more personal. The only compliant I would have with the coffee shop was the audio recording quality
since it was a little noisy. The second location was the apartment of the lawyer. It was one of the first times I met him so I was a little worried at first
going into his home alone but he had a nice dog and was super friendly. The homeā€“like atmosphere made it a lot more comfortable on both ends to talk
and share information that might otherwise been held back. The audio quality was great considering it was a lot more quiet of a place. You can
really hear the difference in the quality. The final interview was in a law office close to campus. I loved how close to campus it was which made it
easy to commute to. Doing interviews in the office made it seem a lot more professional. While the interviewee was very comfortable in the office, I
was not. He was sitting behind a giant wooden desk which made things seem like he was in charge even though he was the interviewee. It made things

How to Write a Descriptive Essay
More than many other types of essays, descriptive essays strive to create a deeply involved and vivid experience for the reader. Great descriptive
essays achieve this affect not through facts and statistics but by using detailed observations and descriptions.
What do you want to describe?
As you get started on your descriptive essay, it's important for you to identify exactly what you want to describe. Often, a descriptive essay will focus
on portraying one of the following: a person a place a memory an experience an object
Ultimately, whatever you can perceive or experience can be the focus of your descriptive writing.

Pismo Beach Home Analysis
The summer of 2002, My best friend pulled up honking, in her tiny green Geo Metro, with her loud speakers blaring Hot in Herre (song by Nelly).
I jumped in with all my bags, and headed 154 miles away to Pismo Beach. We turned right onto court street where the only thing visible was this
massive hill, driving all the way up the hill till we reached the beach house. This is my significant place because it was where I learned to love music
and appreā€“ciate all genres. It's where I found my passion for baking like a pro, most importantly where I learned great parenting. This wouldā€“be home
for the next 2 years. I turned into the driveway of this huge white 2 story house with green shutters, that housed a wraparound porch with a huge picnic
table swing set, swinging from the cool breeze. I opened the front door to a huge living room, looking around at the egg white painted walls. And the
thick tan plush carpets, that hosted a small TV playing. I sat my bags down and headed towards the kitchen, following the savory sent of ribs. I passed
a dining room, that could have been another living room, with how big it was. In that room sat an enormous dining table, that sat 12, and a computer
desk with an old Macintosh computer sitting atop. I turned right into another dining space that was closed off with a makeshift wall blocking most of
the room. That left nothing but a walk space that lead to the kitchen. A small rounded woman with white hair no taller than I stood at the kitchen sink,

Descriptive Essay About The Zoo
The sun was shining, the sky was spotted with clouds, and the wind was whistling as it passed through the trees. Overall, it was the perfect day to
visit the zoo. Smiling, happy children bounded beside me as I walked underneath the large, blue and yellow sign announcing "The Colorado Zoo."
As I walked onto the sidewalk, I looked out over the "habitats." The big, colorful signs advertising the exotic animals "brought from all over the
world!" Animals that were taken from their home, taken from their habitats, and taken to a world where they are put on display. Animals who are
forced to live out their lives in zoos in unhealthy, degrading, and devastating ways. The first exhibit I encountered was the black bears. Their thick,
glistening fur was reflecting the light on and off as they paced the entire patch of land. Walking back and forth, the bears footprints could be seen in
the dirt as they slowly wove a path into the land. One bear was just lying around in the blistering sun barely moving. No trees, no bushes, and no
pools of water to allow the animals to cool down. The more I looked, the more I noticed how barren the display was. I couldn't stop thinking how
sad the entire place looked when I compared it to the bears' natural habitat, how artificial the habitat probably seemed to the bears, and how in most
cases this life was the only one the bears would ever know. There was just a round prison with limited space, in which three enormous bears lived.
Most bears in the wild are solitary creatures who only come together for mating season, but here they were forced to spend all day with each other.
Forcing myself to continue, I made my way to the the tigers. Animals are meant to roam miles and miles every day. These animals are contained
every hour of every day in small enclosures that prohibit the animals from following their basic instincts. Looking at the tigers, I could very clearly
see how this was affecting the animals. The tigers' whole body was round and looked like a balloon. Although it was an adorable sight, I immediately
noticed that the tigers were so fat they would roll around on the ground instead of walking. I quickly stopped smiling when I realized just how
miserable the tigers looked and

The Importance Of Descriptive Writing
The use of descriptive writing is often found in works of fiction, giving the reader the opportunity to visualize the world that the author wants them to
see. Descriptive writing becomes much more valuable, however, when it is used in nonā€“fiction works that may be used to survive. The ability to
precisely describe plants, animals, and the environment can be the difference between life and death. This was indeed the case with the journals of the
early explorers Meriwether Lewis, William Clark, and other party members as they explored North America in the early 1800s. The accounts produced
by members of the expedition party, both written and drawn, would eventually lead to the expansion of the United States by providing accurate and

The men on this journey were all healthy young men excited about a paid adventure. One must consider the exertion the expedition party faced and be
able to compare the party's progress against one's own ability. If the men grew tired over a stretch of land, then the later traveler must be aware of their
own capability and accept their limitations when considering the explorer's timeframe and the amount of ground covered.
After an accident with a canoe, which occurred on the 6th of August 1805, had left Whitehouse and Clark injured Lewis wrote, "Whitehouse is in
much pain this evening with the injury one of his legs sustained from the canoe today at the time it upset and swing over him. Capt Clarks ankle is
also very painfull [sic] to him. We should have given the party a days [sic] rest some where [sic] near this place". Since the injuries occurred, the
party continued to walk for at least 10 miles before setting up camp. This was an impressive venture, considering Whitehouse could have died had the
water been any shallower. The men's ability to continue their journey despite injuries was remarkable and not easily replicated. A later traveler should
recognize this feat and should not compare himself to the accomplishment of the expedition party. Lewis had even wanted to stop the party to give the
injured men at least a day's rest, but they persevered. Also, the fact that members of the party were injured, was not necessary to include. It would

Descriptive Essay : My Dream
In my dream, I am in a small boat in rough waters. It is a dark night, with a full moon, dark clouds filling the horizon. I am sitting in a small wooden
boat in the ocean or large lake. I cannot see land in any direction. The waters are rough, with large waves rocking the boat. The waves are so rough
they are causing water is spray into my face. I am afraid that the boat will tip over and I will drown. I hold on to the sides with both hands.
Suddenly up ahead I can see large rocks in the water, large waves crashing against the dark gray slick sides. My boat is going to hit them. Suddenly
I am traveling between the rocks standing stark and cold on both sides. My small boat travels between several of them and into a rushing river. I
am full of dread, I will certainly sink and drown. I travel down the rushing river. There are high, dark cliffs on both sides. In the distance I can see the
cliffs ending and the river disappearing out of my sight. As I travel closer and closer I can hear the sounds of a waterfall. I travel down the river,
between the cliffs and over a large waterfall. I fall from a great height, walking up in my bed, still filling as though I will drown. Working With The
Dream A small boat in rough water feels like I am out of control. Control is an allusion. It is dark and I do not know where I am or where I am going. I
am in a small boat alone like life that is sometimes solitary and must be traveled alone. Life can sometimes feel rough

The Class Everyone Dreads "Is EN100 a useful class to take?," this was a question I got asked by a junior at my school. They were looking for
classes to take next year; I told them that it was an abundant amount of writing, but it was a great class to take. I went on to explain to them, that
taking it in high school would be easier and cheaper than in college. Beginning to explain to them that it helped me grow as a writer and helped
improve my English vocabulary, I realized it helped a whole lot. Throughout the first semester of school, we had to write essays over four different
topics. These included informative, observation, reflection, and descriptive essays. I told them about my experiences while writing with these certain
types of essays. This is what I said: The first essay we wrote was the descriptive writing style. I wrote an essay called, "Burger King's Crusty
Castle". In this essay, I wrote about the filth inside of the restaurant. Throughout this essay I got better with describing every little detail in the
story. I started off by saying, "The tea urns (used to keep all of the freshly made tea in) smell like something had crawled in them and died"
("Burger King's Crusty Castle"1). I eventually changed it to say, "The tea urns (used to keep all of the freshly made tea in) smell like a skunk that
has just been ran over" ("Burger King's Crusty Castle"11). I added detail to the sentence to make it sound more fluent and to make you feel as if you
could smell it. It

Another factor that plays a part in why I am shaped how I am is my family's economic circumstances. I have always had access to anything I

Descriptive And Prescriptive Grammar
Introduction In this essay I will discuss the definition of the concept grammar in linguistic science and thee attitude teachers may have towards such
a conceptualization of what grammar is. I will go into detail by explaining perspective and descriptive grammar. Descriptive Grammar The first thing
that I will be discussing is the definition of descriptive grammar. A descriptive grammar is a set of rules about language based on how it is actually
used. It can relate with a prescriptive grammar, which is a set of rules based on how people think language should be used. Specialists in descriptive
grammar (linguists) examine the principles and patterns that underlie the use of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences. In contrast, prescriptive...show

Examples of prescriptive grammar rules can be found in practically every guide to "good" language usage, grammar rule book, or grammar guide.
Teacher's attitude towards grammar Grammar has always been an important issue in second and foreign language learning and teaching. Some hold
the view that grammar is not essential for second/foreign language learning and therefore have a 'zero position' regarding grammar teaching. On the
other hand, some view that grammar is necessary for second/foreign language learning. There is often confusion between what is prescriptively
correct under the rules of standard English grammar within different varieties, which results in various options for classroom grammar teaching for
second language learners. In the classroom relating to descriptive grammar learners can be encouraged to move away from a prescriptive approach
to grammar by using a guided discovery in which they look for examples of variations in use in authentic texts. These examples can be compared to
prescriptive rules in order to decide if they are useful or

It was a seemingly beautiful day as I drove on a joy ride in my bright blue sports car, with the wind in my hair. This is an everyday activity for me.
My friends would mock me saying, "You spend more money on gas than you make working." I laughed to myself at the thought of jokes amongst my
friends. That happiness was soon halted. As I continued driving, I saw a car coming rapidly around the curve. The car did not show any signs of
slowing down as it headed towards the intersection. The light turned yellow and then quickly red. Another object caught my eye that made me fear
what was going to happen next. A young couple started crossing the street wearing fancy attire. The first thought that came to mind was, 'they are

is considered the town drunk and does not currently have a valid license due to drinking and driving". He asked me some questions and asked me to
fill out an incident report. Still shaken up by the whole incident I gladly accepted. The officer ended our conversation. "Thank you so much for your

The only thought running through my head on my way home was how much I had not appreciated my wife and children. To witness something of
that nature makes one conscientious about what you have and how quickly it could vanish. I vowed after that day to speak out against drinking
and driving and the terrible outcomes that can transpire from something that some do not view as a "big deal". It is apparent that better ways have to
be found for getting drunk drivers off the road. I encourage anyone to be responsible for their lives and others by agreeing to never drink and drive
again, and to also aid your family and friends in doing so. Have a designated driver each night or call a cab. Everyone is capable of saving a

in the car park presses the accelerator to the floor, but to no avail. The grass is unrecognisable under all of the mud that has been churned up by the
cars that have been coming and going all day. His face reddens as the wheels spin, spraying mud on to a shiny red Ferrari that someone was
unsuspecting enough to bring. People are pointing and laughing and the owner of the Ferrari is shouting. Finally, someone is helpful enough to push
him on his way and he leaves at top speed, without even bothering to say thank you. On the rollercoaster, a young girl screams, while her older
brother looks almost ready to fall asleep. Her best friend in the seat behind is looking slightly green and is very much ready to go home. The little girl
whoops even louder

Descriptive Essay On Hunting

  • 1. Descriptive Essay On Hunting INTRO: I never thought I would feel so awful after pulling that trigger and watching that innocent animal give it's life to me. I was only ten years old and my life was certainly impacted forever. Nowadays, many people think that pulling the trigger of a gun is not hard at all. In reality, it might be pretty easy. It is the aftermath on the other hand that will leave an internal scar, changing a person forever. On my first deer hunt, a young buck stepped out of the dense willow clusters with it's head down, giving me a shot. Soon I would be faced with the tough decision of taking the life of an innocent animal. Meanwhile, on my first turkey hunt, there too I would soon be changed forever. BODY PARAGRAPH #1: It was a cool and crisp evening that nipped at the tips of my toes and fingers. I could smell the fresh snow from the previous night's dusting that blanketed the landscape like a pearly white canvas. The sun was about to set and soon I would be out of daylight. That means no deer this year. Shortly, a buck would come in and I would pullthe trigger. I perched myself up in a tree stand overlooking a massive river valley. This is the place where deer come down and across in order to get to the fields for feeding. The towering tree stand soared over many small trees. I glanced over the railing, looking down at the snowy forest floor many feet below. It was a frightening height. "Pull your gun up. I'll work my way back around to try and push some deer Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Descriptive Essay "Brrr." I shivered when I stepped into the shallow water. After 30 seconds, though, I adjusted. "C'mon Tessa!" my brother Zen, called out as he raced by. "Okay!" I replied as I splashed after him. I was at the beach with my family. I had never been to a beach before, so it was a lot of fun, even though it was only at Lake Michigan in Chicago. As we ran my dad followed us into the water. "Hey, Zen, can you do this?" I asked as I waddled like a duck, " Quack, quack, HONK!!!" "That's easy," he responded as he started imitating the way I was walking, "Can you do this?" Now he was crawling like a crab. "THAT's easy!" I retorted as my waddle turned to a crab crawl. Now it was our dad's turn to try to one up us, we...show more content... I ran up to our blanket and grabbed our bucket. "Hey, I wanted the bucket!" complained Zen. "We'll take turns." I suggested. "OK." Zen shrugged. He walked over to a preā€“built sand castle and started digging out hole?! "Whatchya doin'?" I asked. "I'm going to bury myself in the sand." He replied frankly. "Okay!" I said cheerfully as I started scooping up wet sand. I made sure to get plenty sand nice and packed. I started shaping the sand into a tower. I could feel the sun beating on my back, my hair whipping around in the wind. I could hear the waves crawling up to the shore. It was the perfect summerā€“ "Tessa, can you help me?" Zen interrupted. He had sand up to his knees. "No, I'm busy making my own sand structure." I responded. I went back to building my tower. My hands were caked with sand. I brushed my hair out of my face with my arm. I got up up and walked to the water. My hands dipped into the sunā€“heated water. I pulled back my hair and plunged the bucket into the lake water. When it submerged the sand washed away and it was filled with water. I skipped back, trying not to spill the water, sand spraying with every step. I plopped onto the ground. I poured the water over the top, creating a bowl shaped tower. I shook my hair back over my shoulders again. I thought back to the only other "beach" I've ever been to. I hadn't even quite started kindergarten when I went to Ruidoso, New Mexico for Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Descriptive Essay About Sadness Sadness. Some people will say they learned how to drive this summer, or they learned how to waterski. But I learned what sadness is. My mum and I spent two weeks with my grandfather and grandmother this summer. I knew my grandfather's health was failing. I knew he wasn't doing well. But I had absolutely no conception of how bad it was. He couldn't take ten steps without yelping in pain. He couldn't do much of anything by himself. Those two weeks were spent helping my grandparents any way I possibly could, carrying my grandfather 's walker places, and playing endless games of scrabble with him. My grandfather is the best scrabble player I have ever met. Every time I had visited him, we had played at least once a day and he would beat me...show more content... My eyes were clouded over and I just kept hearing the words that the principal had said over and over again. He had passed away. I didn't even know him well, but the idea that he could just be gone terrified me. Now it was happening to my grandfather. "How can someone just be gone?" I pleaded with my mum, but probably more with God than her. "How can someone be here one day, and then gone the next?' Tears began to fill my eyes and cloud my vision. "How is it that someone dies when their body fails them? How is it that one day Grandad will be gone, and I won't be able to talk to him anymore, or call him, or play scrabble with him? It's just not fair!" I collapsed into tears while my mum pulled over. We just sat there for a while, both hugging each other andcrying our eyes out. There was so much sadness in me. It was like a black hole, swallowing me up from the inside. It was an intense form of grief that I had never felt before. I would cry and feel my whole body shaking, tears coming out of my eyes, but my soul also gasping inside of me, trying to throw out that black hole, but instead getting consumed. My mum's face streamed with tears. "I feel the same way," she whispered before falling into heart wrenching sobs, the same sobs that had been haunting me for months, as she had been crying over her dad's Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Descriptive Writing On The Beach As you walk on the rustic wooden bridge that leads to the neverā€“ending sand on the shore of the Panama City Beach, you feel the bright sun beaming at you and hear the sounds of the thrashing waves against the gritty golden sand. The smell of the salty ocean and the burning sensation of the sand against the feet of those who forgot flipā€“flops are overwhelmed as they walk off the bridge. The sky is a never ending blue with occasional clouds and airplanes that pass by with commercials, and sometimes the chirping seagulls that scavenge for the sight of food. The beach is a place like no other with the crowds of people, the scenery of the water and the sky combined, and the trillions of small sand grains. The first thing that is seen by the naked eye is the magnificent site of the beach filled with crowds of people. When people walk on the old wooden bridge, there is the clutter of people who pose for the perfect photo of the vibrant colors of the ocean and the breeze that blows as soft as a baby. However, the sand on the beach is covered with blankets upon blankets of women tanning, children building sand castles, and men trying to relax and enjoy the vacation from the endless days of work. The children in an array of colorful swimwear build almost perfect sand castles, while others play in the water with boogie boards and rush against tides of the seaweed infested waters. As the eye is averted from the children to the sky, the colonies of seagulls are found, sitting atop Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Thief Descriptive Writing I threw on my jacket, snow pants, boots, and hat as quickly as I could, preparing for the journey from my cozy home into the sub zero weather. "Don't forget your scarf, sweetie!" my mom yelled to me as I struggled to open the front door while holding a sled in one hand and a pair of gloves in the other. Successfully turning the lock and pushing the handle, my eyes caught sight of a scene that I've only dreamed of: a blanket of white covered everything I could lay my eyes on. Houses, cars, mailboxes, and even fire hydrants were coated in a sea of bright flurries that reflected the sun. Pulling the hand warmers out of my coat pocket, I tore off the wrapper, shook them, and stuck them inside my gloves as I slid them on and began to make my way down, what I thought was our driveway, towards the sidewalk with the dog sled dragging alongside my footsteps collecting the top layer of the powdery white flakes as the loud crunching of snow being packed down with every step I took filled my ears. Finally I reached a long narrow ice kissed sidewalk, the once cold, wet burdensome boots I had on become as light as a feather as I skated along the frozen pathway. A treacherous climb up the long, steep staircase covered in slush leading to the top of the sled hill laid before me. Unfortunately this was the only way up, so I began my hike, only to be disturbed by the cool chilly winds. At last,...show more content... My legs become weak from walking up so many stairs and struggling to maneuver through the dense snow, so I lay my sled down on the thick sleet of ice and slide down the cleared passage. At the corner of street I crashed into a snowbank causing Ice cold snow to go inside my jacket and all over my face. So I quickly got up grabbed the sled, wiped away the snot dripping from my nose and sprinted to my house where I opened the front door and stepped inside to comfort of my warm Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Descriptive Essay I walked along the shoreline, pleasantly stepping from rock to rock with my fishing rod in one hand and my tackle box in the other. Even though the sun was barely hovering over the horizon, there was still an hour of good daylight left. As I looked for a place where I wanted to fish. I admired the orange reflection on the ocean. I stepped down off the big rocks, and continued on my path, stepping over seashells, bunches of seaweed, and the occasional washed up buoy. Farther down the seashore, I finally found a spot with a big boulder that jutted out into the ocean from which I could fish. I made my way out to the tip of it, and was soaked by a wave that had slammed up against the face of the rock. I tasted that distance saltiness of ocean...show more content... A good hour and a half passed without my catching anything, but I kept at it. Even though I had not experienced the exhilaration of hooking a fish, i was certainly enjoying this change from my normal life routine. I continued casting and reeling in my lure as I stared at the ripples created by its erratic movements in the water, and listened to the powerful waves crashing against the shore. This repetitive and care free activity offered me an opportunity to reflect, and it helped me to clear my mind. My reflection was suddenly cut short, as I felt a strong tap on my line, signifying a fish had hit my lure. I gave a quick flick of my wrist, setting the hook. I began to work the fish towards me. The bass was relentless and was not going to be caught without giving up a fight. My mind was so focused on getting this fish to shore that i forgot everything that was going through my head. The full fight, which must have taken about 10 minutes, seemed to last a minute to me. I landed the fish, held it by its lip, and removed the lure from its mouth. I looked at this creature of the sea, that I had just fought to bring to shore. It lay curiously still as I studied it, with only its rapidly fluttering gills showing any signs of life, as they gasped for air. Its camouflage was now on full display for me. The brown greens spotted back, a perfect blend of the sea floor, and the silver scales on its underbelly flashing crimson in the dying rays of the sun. After a short Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Descriptive Essay Example Descriptive Essay Final The downtown metropolis can be a complex place, and some may need to become accustomed to it. It is Five O' Clock in the afternoon. The sun is starting to drag itself lower, dimming the landscape, leaving a majestic orange on the horizon. The towering structures above leave enormous shadows on the people below. Car horns ring and sirens pulse, as the people make haste towards there destinations, rushing aggressively as if though it is a race. The end of the work day has just began. The craze is unique from anywhere else. An endless flow of people and vehicles seem to liter the area. A man can be seen making his way towards a small parking lot. The parking lot has not been taken care of for some time. Potholes...show more content... Lush, green trees are everywhere. Every house and small business seems to have one or two of them. The car makes it's way down a small street, with old fashioned houses. The car comes to a halt in front of a beautiful tan house. The house feels cozy. The tan painted planks of wood stack up until they reach the charcoal shingles of the rooftop. Two enormous windows are on the front of the house, with fine, white curtains that can be seen hanging from them on the other side. On the left side of a house there is a large chimney, which gives the house a traditional look with it's brown and red bricks. In the front yard of the house there is a smooth, clean concrete walkway to the front door, surrounded by many bushes, and flowers; trimmed perfectly. This house is well kept, and it stands out as a beauty in the neighborhood. The man walks up his paved walkway, and into the house through a large white door, with four small windows on it, and a cross like pattern beneath them. The doors gives of the look as if it is an entryway to heaven. The house is peaceful. Only the birds chirping in the trees can be heard. • 8. Descriptive Essay On Interview Location For the three interviews, I went to a coffeeshop, an apartment, and an office. I decided on going to a coffee shop for the first interview because it was a public place and to be honest, I really wanted coffee that morning. It was a great place to feel relaxed and at home with the interview which I believe translated into a better interview. I felt a lot more comfortable asking different questions and the interviewee felt more comfortable with sharing information that might be considered more personal. The only compliant I would have with the coffee shop was the audio recording quality since it was a little noisy. The second location was the apartment of the lawyer. It was one of the first times I met him so I was a little worried at first going into his home alone but he had a nice dog and was super friendly. The homeā€“like atmosphere made it a lot more comfortable on both ends to talk and share information that might otherwise been held back. The audio quality was great considering it was a lot more quiet of a place. You can really hear the difference in the quality. The final interview was in a law office close to campus. I loved how close to campus it was which made it easy to commute to. Doing interviews in the office made it seem a lot more professional. While the interviewee was very comfortable in the office, I was not. He was sitting behind a giant wooden desk which made things seem like he was in charge even though he was the interviewee. • 10. Pismo Beach Home Analysis The summer of 2002, My best friend pulled up honking, in her tiny green Geo Metro, with her loud speakers blaring Hot in Herre (song by Nelly). I jumped in with all my bags, and headed 154 miles away to Pismo Beach. We turned right onto court street where the only thing visible was this massive hill, driving all the way up the hill till we reached the beach house. This is my significant place because it was where I learned to love music and appreā€“ciate all genres. It's where I found my passion for baking like a pro, most importantly where I learned great parenting. This wouldā€“be home for the next 2 years. I turned into the driveway of this huge white 2 story house with green shutters, that housed a wraparound porch with a huge picnic table swing set, swinging from the cool breeze. I opened the front door to a huge living room, looking around at the egg white painted walls. And the thick tan plush carpets, that hosted a small TV playing. I sat my bags down and headed towards the kitchen, following the savory sent of ribs. I passed a dining room, that could have been another living room, with how big it was. In that room sat an enormous dining table, that sat 12, and a computer desk with an old Macintosh computer sitting atop. I turned right into another dining space that was closed off with a makeshift wall blocking most of the room. That left nothing but a walk space that lead to the kitchen. A small rounded woman with white hair no taller than I stood at the kitchen sink, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Descriptive Essay About The Zoo The sun was shining, the sky was spotted with clouds, and the wind was whistling as it passed through the trees. Overall, it was the perfect day to visit the zoo. Smiling, happy children bounded beside me as I walked underneath the large, blue and yellow sign announcing "The Colorado Zoo." As I walked onto the sidewalk, I looked out over the "habitats." The big, colorful signs advertising the exotic animals "brought from all over the world!" Animals that were taken from their home, taken from their habitats, and taken to a world where they are put on display. Animals who are forced to live out their lives in zoos in unhealthy, degrading, and devastating ways. The first exhibit I encountered was the black bears. Their thick, glistening fur was reflecting the light on and off as they paced the entire patch of land. Walking back and forth, the bears footprints could be seen in the dirt as they slowly wove a path into the land. One bear was just lying around in the blistering sun barely moving. No trees, no bushes, and no pools of water to allow the animals to cool down. The more I looked, the more I noticed how barren the display was. I couldn't stop thinking how sad the entire place looked when I compared it to the bears' natural habitat, how artificial the habitat probably seemed to the bears, and how in most cases this life was the only one the bears would ever know. These animals are contained every hour of every day in small enclosures that prohibit the animals from following their basic instincts. Looking at the tigers, I could very clearly see how this was affecting the animals. The tigers' whole body was round and looked like a balloon. Although it was an adorable sight, I immediately noticed that the tigers were so fat they would roll around on the ground instead of walking. I quickly stopped smiling when I realized just how miserable the tigers looked and Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 13. The Importance Of Descriptive Writing The use of descriptive writing is often found in works of fiction, giving the reader the opportunity to visualize the world that the author wants them to see. Descriptive writing becomes much more valuable, however, when it is used in nonā€“fiction works that may be used to survive. The ability to precisely describe plants, animals, and the environment can be the difference between life and death. This was indeed the case with the journals of the early explorers Meriwether Lewis, William Clark, and other party members as they explored North America in the early 1800s. The accounts produced by members of the expedition party, both written and drawn, would eventually lead to the expansion of the United States by providing accurate and ...show more content... The men on this journey were all healthy young men excited about a paid adventure. One must consider the exertion the expedition party faced and be able to compare the party's progress against one's own ability. If the men grew tired over a stretch of land, then the later traveler must be aware of their own capability and accept their limitations when considering the explorer's timeframe and the amount of ground covered. After an accident with a canoe, which occurred on the 6th of August 1805, had left Whitehouse and Clark injured Lewis wrote, "Whitehouse is in much pain this evening with the injury one of his legs sustained from the canoe today at the time it upset and swing over him. Capt Clarks ankle is also very painfull [sic] to him. We should have given the party a days [sic] rest some where [sic] near this place". Since the injuries occurred, the party continued to walk for at least 10 miles before setting up camp. This was an impressive venture, considering Whitehouse could have died had the water been any shallower. The men's ability to continue their journey despite injuries was remarkable and not easily replicated. A later traveler should recognize this feat and should not compare himself to the accomplishment of the expedition party. Lewis had even wanted to stop the party to give the injured men at least a day's rest, but they persevered. Also, the fact that members of the party were injured, was not necessary to include. • 14. Descriptive Essay : My Dream In my dream, I am in a small boat in rough waters. It is a dark night, with a full moon, dark clouds filling the horizon. I am sitting in a small wooden boat in the ocean or large lake. I cannot see land in any direction. The waters are rough, with large waves rocking the boat. The waves are so rough they are causing water is spray into my face. I am afraid that the boat will tip over and I will drown. I hold on to the sides with both hands. Suddenly up ahead I can see large rocks in the water, large waves crashing against the dark gray slick sides. My boat is going to hit them. Suddenly I am traveling between the rocks standing stark and cold on both sides. My small boat travels between several of them and into a rushing river. I am full of dread, I will certainly sink and drown. I travel down the rushing river. There are high, dark cliffs on both sides. In the distance I can see the cliffs ending and the river disappearing out of my sight. As I travel closer and closer I can hear the sounds of a waterfall. I travel down the river, between the cliffs and over a large waterfall. I fall from a great height, walking up in my bed, still filling as though I will drown. Working With The Dream A small boat in rough water feels like I am out of control. Control is an allusion. It is dark and I do not know where I am or where I am going. I am in a small boat alone like life that is sometimes solitary and must be traveled alone. Life can sometimes feel rough Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Descriptive Writing Essay The Class Everyone Dreads "Is EN100 a useful class to take?," this was a question I got asked by a junior at my school. They were looking for classes to take next year; I told them that it was an abundant amount of writing, but it was a great class to take. I went on to explain to them, that taking it in high school would be easier and cheaper than in college. Beginning to explain to them that it helped me grow as a writer and helped improve my English vocabulary, I realized it helped a whole lot. Throughout the first semester of school, we had to write essays over four different topics. These included informative, observation, reflection, and descriptive essays. I told them about my experiences while writing with these certain types of essays. This is what I said: The first essay we wrote was the descriptive writing style. I wrote an essay called, "Burger King's Crusty Castle". In this essay, I wrote about the filth inside of the restaurant. Throughout this essay I got better with describing every little detail in the story. I started off by saying, "The tea urns (used to keep all of the freshly made tea in) smell like something had crawled in them and died" ("Burger King's Crusty Castle"1). I eventually changed it to say, "The tea urns (used to keep all of the freshly made tea in) smell like a skunk that has just been ran over" ("Burger King's Crusty Castle"11). I added detail to the sentence to make it sound more fluent and to make you feel as if you could smell it. It Get more content on HelpWriting.net

For example, in school when we work in group projects we collaborate and communicate with people who think differently than us then work together to figure out whose ideas will work the best and how to improve them. Another factor that plays a part in why I am shaped how I am is my family's economic circumstances. I have always had access to anything I needed and for that I have extreme gratitude because I know some people have a lot of difficulty in life. Since I was born into a family with such good economic circumstances I have been lucky to have lots of opportunities. One Opportunity I had as a child was participating in taekwondo. I did taekwondo until I reached a blackbelt which took years of hardwork and dedication. I had to memorize forms, Spar with other competitors and break boards in order to continue to move up to the next level. Taekwondo also helped keep me in good shape and fit when I was younger. • 17. Descriptive And Prescriptive Grammar Introduction In this essay I will discuss the definition of the concept grammar in linguistic science and thee attitude teachers may have towards such a conceptualization of what grammar is. I will go into detail by explaining perspective and descriptive grammar. Descriptive Grammar The first thing that I will be discussing is the definition of descriptive grammar. A descriptive grammar is a set of rules about language based on how it is actually used. It can relate with a prescriptive grammar, which is a set of rules based on how people think language should be used. Specialists in descriptive grammar (linguists) examine the principles and patterns that underlie the use of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences. In contrast, prescriptive...show more content... Examples of prescriptive grammar rules can be found in practically every guide to "good" language usage, grammar rule book, or grammar guide. Teacher's attitude towards grammar Grammar has always been an important issue in second and foreign language learning and teaching. Some hold the view that grammar is not essential for second/foreign language learning and therefore have a 'zero position' regarding grammar teaching. On the other hand, some view that grammar is necessary for second/foreign language learning. There is often confusion between what is prescriptively correct under the rules of standard English grammar within different varieties, which results in various options for classroom grammar teaching for second language learners. In the classroom relating to descriptive grammar learners can be encouraged to move away from a prescriptive approach to grammar by using a guided discovery in which they look for examples of variations in use in authentic texts. These examples can be compared to prescriptive rules in order to decide if they are useful or Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Descriptive Essay Descriptive Essay It was a seemingly beautiful day as I drove on a joy ride in my bright blue sports car, with the wind in my hair. This is an everyday activity for me. My friends would mock me saying, "You spend more money on gas than you make working." I laughed to myself at the thought of jokes amongst my friends. That happiness was soon halted. As I continued driving, I saw a car coming rapidly around the curve. The car did not show any signs of slowing down as it headed towards the intersection. The light turned yellow and then quickly red. Another object caught my eye that made me fear what was going to happen next. A young couple started crossing the street wearing fancy attire. The first thought that came to mind was, 'they are ...show more content... One of the police officers came up to me introduced himself, asked me my name and started, "Have you ever seen this driver before? On the road or around town?" I quickly responded, "No, I have not officer." He continued, "I learned from the call back to the station that the driver, David Chrisenger, is considered the town drunk and does not currently have a valid license due to drinking and driving". He asked me some questions and asked me to fill out an incident report. Still shaken up by the whole incident I gladly accepted. The officer ended our conversation. "Thank you so much for your time, Kevin. We really appreciate it." The only thought running through my head on my way home was how much I had not appreciated my wife and children. To witness something of that nature makes one conscientious about what you have and how quickly it could vanish. I vowed after that day to speak out against drinking and driving and the terrible outcomes that can transpire from something that some do not view as a "big deal". It is apparent that better ways have to be found for getting drunk drivers off the road. I encourage anyone to be responsible for their lives and others by agreeing to never drink and drive again, and to also aid your family and friends in doing so. Have a designated driver each night or call a cab. Everyone is capable of saving a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
