Introduction
The COVID 19 crisis has created an unprecedented surge in demand for certain goods that have led to concerns
around transparency and efficiency of supply chain management systems. With global supply chains being
disrupted to a point of where return to pre-pandemic levels looks unlikely in the short run, companies are turning
towards transparent, inclusive and innovative technologies to survive. World Economic Forum (WEF) had
indicated in one of its recent articles that Blockchain technology can help tackle supply chain failures exposed by
the COVID-19 pandemic and also boost the economic recovery process. According to their recent article,
Blockchain can help rebuild disrupted networks by providing trading partners and consumers with transparent,
trusted and secured data on goods and transactions. This can help form a more equitable system of commerce
for producers and consumers.
Global acceptance of Blockchain as a technology in supply chain management can transform workflow effectively,
increase transparency, reduce risk and time for delivery and add tremendous value to businesses. Areas such as
procurement, provenance, traceability, logistics, manufacturing and payments can reap huge benefits from
deployment of Blockchain technology. Having a Blockchain based database for storing operational data can
eliminate resource heavy processes, save time, ramp up manufacturing, enhance visibility and supply of goods on
time. Given the introduction of initiatives such as Vocal for Local and Atmanirbhar Bharat by the Government of
India, manufacturers can look at leveraging Blockchain to thrive in the new normal.
We brought technology experts together to discuss “Leveraging Blockchain to transform rattled supply chains”
and share their views on the ways in which Blockchain can revolutionise global supply chains. The experts also
discussed various areas and industries that could benefit from the adoption of Blockchain technologies, how it
could ensure rapid reaction to future supply chain shocks and provide flexibility during such unforeseen events.
