Islington Workhouses; what, where and why?

13. WHAT are workhouses?
1: WHAT?

14. Workhouses were buildings in the Victorian Era run by a selected
Board of Guardians.
There were many all across the British Empire, for orphan children
and poor adults.
They were the orphanages before the orphanages.
But not as nice...
WHAT ARE WORKHOUSES?

16. This is a pro and con list of being in a workhouse.

18. Workhouses were spread all over the British Empire in the rule of
Queen Victoria.
They could be anywhere, and there were hundreds made.
They would look like normal buildings from the outside, but
children and adults alike would be working inside.
