2. Dear Councillor Rakhia,
I am writing to you to express my
deep concern over an issue that is
close to my heart as a resident of
Islington. I have noticed recently
that the amount of litter in public
spaces in Islington has reached a
level which is becoming dangerous
and therefore I felt compelled to
contact you.
First paragraph – introduce
yourself and tell the reader
why you are writing to them.
This is where you explain what
the problem is.
Writing to tell you about the
litter problem in Islington
Litter is everywhere in the
area
3. While there are many reasons to live in
Islington, one of the most fantastic things is
how many parks and playgrounds there are.
Despite being in the middle of a busy city,
Islington has lots of open spaces for children to
play in, which is crucial to their well being.
However, due to the huge amount of litter that
is often found around children’s play areas,
many of these spaces are unsafe for children
to use. Smaller children are known to put
things in their mouth. Can you imagine what
might happen if a child were to put a piece of
litter they found on a swing or slide in their
mouths? It is extremely worrying!
Furthermore, when litter is left in parks it
spoils what could be an enjoyable day out as it
looks so horrible.
Second paragraph – State
your first reason that this is
bothering you
It is dangerous for small
children who may put
things in their mouths.
It looks horrible
