INNOVATION ECOSYSTEM WORKSHOP
During the month of June 2019, Exams were conducted in
NUML & LCWU followed by Summer Vacations. The startups
were given the responsibility of working on their respective
Business Model Canvases, Customer Personas, study their
competitions and conduct market research.
Center for Global Innovators- CGI utilized this time to
organize a two days Innovation Ecosystem Workshop for
the Business Incubation Centers and ORIC offices of
universities, Private Incubation Centers and Corporate
Innovation Centers.

Innovation Ecosystem Workshop
Innovation Ecosystem Workshop was a two day
event and was organized on June 27 & 28, 2019 at
Resource Center Murree, training vicinity of Fatima
Jinnah Women University. RCM is located at a
premium location in Murree close to Governor’s
house. The vicinity also offers accommodation
facility and the participants appreciated the comfort
of training hall, accommodation and food within the
premises. For this workshop Center for Global
Innovators collaborated with B Icon, DBTV and PM
Youth Program.

Disseminate our learning and share our experience
resulting from facilitating B Icon NUML and ORIC
office LCWU in enlightening the first cohort of Social
& Creative Incubation Program.

how the experts propose to address these ordeals.

1.1. Opening Speech by Mr. Imran Jattala
Mr. Imran Jattala, Co- Founder Center for Global
Innovators welcomed the participants, panelists and
guests. Mr. Jattala introduced CGI as Center for
Global Innovators (CGI) is Innovation Consulting
with the design thinking mindset of IDEO, business
capability of McKinsey, combined with the
entrepreneurial spirit of the best startups.
Mr. Jattala shared his journey with the participants
and explained in detail EDIE (Entrepreneurship
Driven Innovation Ecosystem) as the objective of the
existence of CGI. Mr. Jattala shared with the
participants how CGI in collaboration with Cranfield
School of Management & Leadership, Sustainable
Development for Policy Institute, NUML and LCWU
pitched for and was awarded DICE Fund to facilitate
NUML and LCWU in establishing state of the art
Social & Creative Incubation Centers. Mr. Jattala
also explained the background and the thought
process with which CGI designed the curriculum to
be used by NUML & LCWU. This curriculum was
reviewed and approved by Cranfield School of
Management & Leadership.
Followed by this Mr. Jattala gave a detailed session
on “Design Thinking” for the attendees of the
Incubation Management Workshop.

1.2. Keynote Speech by Mr. Amir Jahangir -
Building an Innovation Ecosystem
Followed by Mr. Imran Jattala, Mr. Amir Jahangir
delivered a keynote speech on “Building an
Innovation Ecosystem”. Mr. Amir Jahangir is the
CEO and Founder of DBTV, Mishal and Agahi
Foundation. Mr. Amir Jahangir built his narrative
on the fact that Innovation Ecosystem is the key to
stimulate economic growth of any country.
The takeaways from his keynote were that
digitization coupled with creativity and
communication skills is where a bright future lies.

renowned media personality. This panel discussion

around the Globe and alterations to these best
practices to suit the ground realities and the
importance of Public Private Partnerships for
bridging the gap.

1.4. Panel Discussion II-“Pakistan Top 50
Innovative Nations?”
The workshop was resumed after lunch with the
second panel discussion “Pakistan Top 50 Innovative
Nations?” .The panelists for the second panel
discussion included;

The panel was moderated by Ms. Huma Rasheed,
Manager ORIC NUML. The discussions of the second
panel complimented the discussions of the first
Panel. In this discussion success stories of
Entrepreneurs from Pakistan from the avenues of
Innovation were highlighted. Furthermore, the
challenges, ordeals and societal barriers in fostering
an entrepreneurial culture were highlighted and
their possible solutions were proposed and debated
upon by the experts
Mr. Imtaiz Rastagar highlighted some gaps in the
logistics & manufacturing sector. Dr. Tayyeb Ali,
(Director ORIC PIEAS University) explained the
important role of ORICs, Business Incubation
Centers, technology & innovation supports centers
in economic development & job creation.
After “Pakistan Top 50 Innovative Nations?” the first
day of Innovation Ecosystem Workshop was
concluded with a group photo of the participants.

2.1. Key note Speech by Mr. Khurram Ellahi-
"Knowing thyself & Art of Leadership“
Mr. Khurram Ellahi is Thought Leader, Philosopher,
PhD. Scholar, Social Scientist, Dreamer, Author,
Radio Jockey & Media Person. His strong grip on
Psychology and Philosophy endows him a very
unique perspective and enables him to address the
ever changing issues in the emerging dynamics of
our Personal & Professional lives through the lens of
Poetry and Fiction.
Mr. Khurram with his amazing delivery and strong
content mesmerized the audience. The participants
of Innovation Ecosystem Workshop led by Mr.
Khurram Ellahi explored the avenues from the lens
of Philosophy, Poetry and Sufi Wisdom.
Knowing Thyself & Art of Leadership was followed by
Tea Break.

2.2. Panel Discussion III- “ How ORICs can enable
Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship”
The workshop was resumed after the tea break with
a Panel discussion on “How ORICs can enable
Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship”. The
panelists for the session included;

b. Mr. Ikhtiar Khoso, Director Incubation Center
at Sukkur IBA University
c. Mr. Asif Bashir, Manager Incubation NTU
Faisalabad
d. Dr. Ambreen Waheed, Founder Responsible
Business Initiative.
The panel was moderated by Ms. Huma Rasheed,
Manager ORIC NUML. The panelists discussed the
role universities and in turn ORIC offices and
Business Incubation Centers can play in instilling
an entrepreneurial spirit amongst the University
students. In addition to discussing the bottlenecks
the panelists shared their experiences and proposed
strategies for attaining sustainability in a university
based incubation center.
Dr. Gulfam Baghoor emphasized that ORICs instead
of focusing on number publications should focus on
impact generated by those publications. Mr. Iftikhar
khoso, emphasized on nurturing solution orented
startups. Dr. Ambreen Waheed pointed out gaps in
our education system and suggested educational
reforms to prepare the youth for upcoming
challenges & empower them to bring about a positive
impact in the society.

2.3. Key Note Speech By Mr. Shahzad Gul
PM Youth Program was partners with Center for
Global in organizing the Innovation Ecosystem
Workshop. Mr. Shahzad Gul, Program Coordinator
PM Youth Program represented his office at the
workshop.
Mr. Gul congratulated CGI on organizing a
successful event and emphasized on bridging the
gap between academia and industry. He also
highlighted the efforts being made on part of the
Federal Government to promote Entrepreneurship in
Pakistan. Mr. Gul also welcomed suggestions from
the participants and promised to communicate them
to authorities.
Mr. Shahzad Gul’s Keynote speech was followed by
Lunch Break.

2.4. Panel Discussion IV- Digital Social
Innovation
The workshop was resumed after the tea break with
a Panel Discussion on Digital Social Innovation. The
Panelists of the session included;

c. Dr. Gulfam Baghoor, Director ORIC NUML
d. Mr. Rai Azhar, Tamgha-e-Shugahat

Digital Social Innovation was moderated by Mr.
Imran Jattala. The key takeaways from this panel
discussion were; the sole purpose of existence of any
business is to serve its clients and entrepreneurs
should be encouraged to use technology as an
enabler in solving problems of their communities.
At the end of the discussion, Mr. Rai Azhar, former
assistant attorney general and survivor of terrorist
attack at session courts F.8, Islamabad in 2014 was
invited to share his story with the participants. As a
reward for his bravery Government of Pakistan has
awarded Mr. Azhar with medal of bravery (Tamgha-
e-Shugahat).
Digital Social Innovation was followed by Certificate
Distribution Ceremony and Group photograph of
day two. The Innovation Ecosystem Workshop was
then concluded with tea for the participants.
