It is complex - there aren’t just 5 ways to wellbeing!
Everyone is different and yet we are all the same.
Wellbeing is individual but it is also collective. Your wellbeing will influence the wellbeing of those people around you. You both receive and give wellbeing.
The flourishing of people, other species and the planet are all interconnected.
The 8 domains are all interconnected. i.e the way we think influences all aspects of our lives.
We should be thinking about the impact of our business in all of these areas, on all of our stakeholders.
Some ideas for areas where support will be required
Give you a practical tool to help you have conversations
Get you thinking about support in all eight domains of wellbeing.
Some staff may have thrived working from home
Others may have found the whole situation extremely detrimental and be suffering
For each of the domains each individual may be at different points
Uncertainty
Overly confident
Difficult to focus on the present. What has happened? What might happen?
Furlough - Low self esteem (Why me?) to Resenting (How come they got to take a paid break?)
New exercise regimes - coming back to work may impinge on them
Over eating
Excess alcohol
Some people may have taken time to reflect on their lives.
Coming back to work will be either good or bad or somewhere inbetween!
WFH - being asked to come back may be a bind or a blessing!
Expectations for a different relationship with their manager - employees could now be used to greater autonomy.
Video conferencing
Lack of commute - getting up later
Taking more breaks
Still requirement to keep our distance
Moving from home back to office - different work station set ups
How is the company managing spaces and its impact on the environment?
Beware of bias
Negativity
Confirmation
Status quo
In order to navigate our journey we need highways and signposts.
5 key highways - These are the CANBE model.
Creating meaning - Living life the way we want to. If our lives are out of line with who we are or constrained by external forces it can create tension. With greater meaning we are more motivated and engaged.
Achieving potential - Fulfilment from achieving what we’re capable of as individuals and groups. Builds confidence and helps us grow
Nurturing relationships - No man or woman is an island. We all need others and they need us. How effective we are are getting along with others.
Building resilience - The skills, attributes and resources we need to deal with life’s daily challenges
Enriching lives - Moving forward together. Improving our lives and that of others.
Along these highways we need signposts to help us navigate and keep us on course. These are the words at the intersections.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this presentation. Thanks for your time in listening and please let me know if I can help you in any way going forward.
